Janitor AI alternatives: 13 roleplay apps and their catch

Soulkyn is a strong pick for the fullest toolkit, listing memory, voice calls, images, video, custom characters and group chat in one app. Its official plan, Deluxe, is €49.90 a month, so it's the premium choice.

For roleplay on one flat price, Chub AI's Mars plan is $20 a month with unlimited access to its language models. For the lowest monthly cost of those three hubs, Dream Companion's yearly Premium works out to $5.84 a month. I'd rather you pick on those three questions than on hype. If your characters lean anime, my anime AI chat list is the better start.

Next comes the free start. I rate a published number above a promise: CrushChat's 34 messages a day tells you more than "free accounts are limited". Then the cheapest plan worth paying for, whether chips or credits sit on top, and the fine print on renewal, cancelling and refunds.

What this list is not: hands-on reviews of AI chats like Janitor AI. None of the entries claims use of an app. They are built from official pages, dated free-tier checks and reviewer reports. If story matters more to you than the platform, my AI chat roleplay list ranks by that instead.

The free side is the draw. Text on the Default model has no message cap and no timer; you pay for that with ads, a possible queue at busy hours, 4K memory and replies capped at 180 tokens. There are no images or voice on free, and other reviewers say free recall reaches roughly 30 messages back, which is short for a long scene.

Get a Taste, $5.95 a month, drops the ads and the queue, adds a memory manager for key details and allows up to 10 personas, so you can play different people across your scenes. True Supporter at $19.95 moves to 8K context and in-chat images, and Im All In at $29.95 reaches 32K. Group chat has a route on the site, but its limits aren't confirmed.

The catch: reviewers mention repetitive replies and pictures where one character looks different each time, and refunds are rare once a paid account has been used. My SpicyChat review covers every tier.

Why list it for roleplayers, then? Memory and groups. The homepage presents short, medium and long-term memory as the core of the app, and other reviewers describe a "Mind Map" it builds by itself around 500 messages in.

Paid accounts can run up to 10 active Nomis and 10 group chats, so a recurring cast can share a scene and remember the last one.

The free plan never ends: 50 messages a day, up to 400 characters each, 2 images a day and no ads. Standard costs $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year ($8.33 monthly), with unlimited messages at 800 characters and voice calls.

Where it fits less well: images are clothed-only on every tier and picked from a ready-made set rather than your own prompts, and one outside review finds the chat a little too agreeable over time. Payments are nonrefundable, and the terms let the company use your chats to improve the system. Read my Nomi AI review before paying.

Its strength is presentation. Reviewers call its images and videos highly realistic, with a consistent look, and its voice calls expressive. If your Janitor AI characters only ever lived in text, this is the app where they get a face.

The limits are plain. Adult content is paid-only, and the Help Centre caps a free account at 5 messages in total, so you judge it from a very short sample. For roleplay, memory is the weak spot: other reviewers say consistency holds for roughly 10-20 messages before details slip.

The 1-Month Plan is €13.99 with unlimited text, custom companions and 100 tokens a month, and the 12-Month Plan comes to €3.99 a month. Images, voice and video spend tokens; a short clip is 12 of them. Outside the EU and UK the refund window is 24 hours and closes after 20 tokens. Skip it for long, text-heavy campaigns. If you're leaving Janitor AI because you want more than text, this is the app with the most on top.

Money is the sticking point. The one plan confirmed on the official page is Deluxe at €49.90 a month, which leaves chat on the 70B model, images and voice all uncapped, with video charged per use in Souls. Third-party reviews in 2026 mention Just Chatting at €11.99 and Premium at €24.99, but the official pricing page doesn't confirm them, so I wouldn't plan around them.

The free side is vague. Soulkyn says free accounts exist and are limited, and its landing page pitches premium for "unlimited messaging with no daily limits". No number is given, which I don't like.

The catch in reviews: memory keeps a scene going inside a session but not across weeks, lots of pictures drain credits quicker than the plan price hints, and the voice is called flat. There's no standing free plan. Chub sends one-time free trial credits worth "a few dozen messages" to new users, and you can self-host for free through Kobold or Ooba if you're comfortable running models yourself. That's a fair taste, not a free home.

Paying is simple, which I like: Mars is $20 a month and opens every Chub language model with no cap, Soji among them, plus unlimited voice and multimedia generation. No chips, no coins, no second meter. Refunds, per a secondary source, happen only in exceptional cases, so make up your mind during the trial.

The catch: reviewers mention dialogue confusion and repetition, sometimes with the AI writing both sides of the conversation, and its Imagine images look AI-made up close, with a shaky likeness. Voice is compared to an audiobook narrator. Skip it if you want romance and voice more than roleplay: my AI girlfriend list fits that better.

The free tier is tiny. The Terms say free users can create 1 character and send a limited number of messages, "typically between 10 to 20", and then interaction is restricted. Think of it as a demo.

The value is in the yearly plan. Premium is $11.99 a month or $69.99 a year, which is $5.84 a month, with 6,000 text messages, 100 Dream Coins a month, custom characters and voice messages. Ultimate at $44.99 a month adds unlimited messages, 800 Dream Coins and voice calls, which I'd only pay for if calls matter to you.

My order would be one monthly payment first and the yearly plan after it, because there are no refunds except in limited cases, reviewed one by one. The statement reads Miracle AI, and you cancel under Settings.

The free plan gives chip-free text chat on the Lite model plus 80 starting chips to spend on images. The official pages don't publish a message limit, and outside sources disagree with each other, so I can't give you one. Reviewers call the free account a preview, since media costs more chips than you start with. If free chat is your priority, my free AI chat list has clearer allowances.

Premium is $19.99 a month with 600 chips, falling to $12.99 monthly on the 3-month term, or $7.99 monthly if you take the $95.88 yearly plan. Memory and voice calls are paid features here. Creative Pro at $64.99 a month adds 3,000 chips and advanced chat memory, a big jump.

I'd skip the lifetime Ultra at $399.60: that's a lot to pay up front for an app you haven't lived with.

The catch is chips. Video is short photo-to-animation and burns chips fast, and character likeness in images is inconsistent. Subscriptions renew automatically, and cancelling keeps access until the paid term ends. Skip Lovescape if you mostly want long text roleplay.

You can chat without logging in. Logged-in users get daily free credits, though the numbers disagree: the price page FAQ says 20 free credits a day, while the login dialog and character pages say 30. Chat costs 2 credits per message, so that's 10 to 15 messages a day. Small, but it refills.

The part I really like is billing. Every payment is a one-time purchase with "no subscriptions" and no auto-renewal, so you never have to remember to cancel. 1 Month is $12.99 for 2,000 credits that expire in a month, which at 2 credits per message is 1,000 messages.

12 Months is $47.88, or $3.99 a month, for 24,000 credits that expire in a year. Sure you're sticking around? Then the yearly purchase is the smart buy. Both add skip queue, no ads and the AI tools.

Now the catch. Refunds are off once the login details have been used, and there are no refunds for partial months. Reviewers say chat is good in short sessions but starts repeating itself once a roleplay runs past roughly 30-50 messages, and that memory across sessions is weak. Voices are described as synthetic.

Anime-style images come out better than realistic ones, and moderation blocks adult picture prompts more often than chat.

So who is it for? Someone who wants a Janitor AI alternative without a subscription hanging over them, and who plays in short sessions. Anyone running one long story over weeks should look higher on this list. To compare it with the original, read my Janitor AI review.

Second, the meter: chips on Lovescape, Dream Coins on Dream Companion, credits on Gening AI and HammerAI. Third, the yearly discounts, which are big on Dream Companion and Lovescape but tie you in for a full year. I'd always do one month first, then commit once you know the app suits you.

Flat and simple: Chub AI's Mars at $20 a month and CrushChat's Silver at $10 a month both list unlimited messages, and CrushChat adds images and audio at that price. Backyard AI's Standard at $12 gives unlimited messages but no image generation. For text roleplay, those three are the honest buys.

Metered: HammerAI's Starter at $9 includes 1,500 credits, which is 150 images or 300 TTS. Dream Companion's Premium tops you up with 100 Dream Coins monthly, and Lovescape's Premium 600 chips, and reviewers say Lovescape's video eats chips fast. On ChatUp AI, PRO - Get A Taste at 1,499 RUB a month includes 15,000 messages and 1,500 chat photos a month.

One-time: Gening AI's 12 Months at $47.88 is the cheapest year on the page per month, at $3.99. Privee AI's yearly Plus at $49.99 is close, at $4.17 a month, but the listing doesn't say what it includes.

My rule: if you mostly write, pick a flat plan. If you want pictures, count how many you'd make in a month and do the credit math before paying. For the rest of my lists, start at the top AI app rankings.

My advice: if text roleplay is the whole point, start with Chub AI's trial and pay $20 only if the writing holds up for you. Pick Soulkyn if images and voice are part of the fun and the price fits. My advice: use a separate email for apps like these, keep your real name and workplace out of the story, and read the privacy policy before paying. If an app's ownership is unclear to you, keep it to the free tier. And if you do pay, a one-time purchase like Gening AI's means there's nothing left to cancel later.
