SpicyChat after seven weeks: free stories, $5.95 to skip lines
No-cost option: Ad-supported text chat without a cap using the Default model, where queues can happen; 4K memory and replies of at most 180 tokens; pictures and voice are not included.
starts at $5/mo
What is SpicyChat, and who is it for?
SpicyChat is a web companion and roleplay chat app from NextDay AI Incorporated in Montreal, launched in 2023, with a huge community character library, characters you design yourself, and free text chat. I spent seven weeks on it in mid-2025, and of all the apps I've used it was the steady one. I started free and paid $5.95 for one month of Get a Taste in July 2025. My short take: generous free text chat with deep roleplay tools, and a queue as the price.
The facts I'd want before starting:
- On the Default model you can text for free with no cap, though ads show and you may have to queue.
- A signed-in free account can switch on adult text chat, per outside reviews.
- Free accounts get neither images nor voice.
- For $5.95 monthly, Get a Taste drops the ads and lets you skip the lines.
- The card statement reads NDAI.CHAT.
Who is it for? Readers who want long roleplay without paying, and who like browsing a big library. It is not for someone who needs images, voice or zero waiting on a free account. If you're choosing between two big character libraries, my SpicyChat vs CrushOn AI comparison lines them up.

How far the free tier carried me
The free text chat is generous, and the roleplay tools are deep. The free tier alone carried me through a season of stories before I paid anything. Today the plan page still promises "Unlimited Messages" and says you can keep chatting for as long as you like, at any hour, with no paywall or timer. That matches what I saw then.
The free plan today lists unlimited text on the Default model, ads, possible waiting lines, 4K memory and replies up to 180 tokens, with no images or voice. Other reviewers report that a signed-out visitor gets wholesome-only chat, while a signed-in free account can turn on adult text chat with two toggles, and that free memory reaches roughly 30 messages back.
Here is the catch, and it is real. Peak-hour waits on free happen, and I resented queueing for my own imagination. My test log below shows where that led: a paid month in July 2025, bought to skip the queue, not to unlock anything.
For plans and billing in one place, see the at-a-glance box on this page. If you're comparing free starts, my GirlfriendGPT vs SpicyChat breakdown shows how a message-capped free plan feels next to this one.

SpicyChat AI chat and the community
The character collection is huge enough that I never finished browsing it, and for a professional browser that is saying something. Spend your first evening in the library before you build anything. Chances are someone has already written the character you want, and you can learn from how they wrote her.
Then build your own. The official page invites you to create an AI from nothing and pick its appearance, personality and backstory yourself. Personas let you set who you are in the scene, up to 10 on Get a Taste, 50 on True Supporter and 100 on Im All In.
For an inclusive app, that combination does a lot: the library covers many tastes, and the builder covers the rest.
The part nobody lists on a plan page is the forums. They are a real community. I lurked in a 200-reply thread about writing better scene openers and absorbed more craft than from most writing podcasts. If you write your own roleplay, read the forums before you pay for anything.
On quality, outside reviews describe the chat as well-paced and character-driven, and I'd agree the roleplay tools are deep. Memory is where plans differ most. The official blog promises "adaptive learning", meaning the AI should keep your preferences from one chat to the next.
Free has 4K memory, Get a Taste adds a memory manager that stores key details, True Supporter brings semantic memory 2.0 with 8K context, and Im All In goes to 32K context.
Group chat is less clear. A 2025 recap listed "AI Group Chat" as coming in 2026, and the site now has a route for creating one, but its limits and plan are not confirmed. For a comparison with the best-known rival, see my Character AI vs SpicyChat breakdown.
18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.
SpicyChat NSFW settings, explained
SpicyChat's policy allows adult content, which is why most people type "spicy AI" into a search bar to begin with. Outside reviews describe how it works in practice: a signed-out visitor gets wholesome-only chat, and a signed-in free account can turn on adult text chat with two toggles, a profile NSFW switch and then "display explicit content" in settings. I like that it is off until you choose it. That's how it should work on a page you might open in public.
Images are a separate matter. There are none on the free plan. Unlimited in-chat images start at True Supporter, and the image tool offers anime or semi-realistic styles, custom prompts and its own SFW/NSFW filter.
One outside review says the image content toggle hides three menus down in settings and takes some hunting, so if images matter to you, budget ten minutes for the settings.
The same review found paid images lacking consistency: one realistic character looked different in every picture, and adult image mode gave distorted, low-quality anime-style results. If that is right, I'd treat images as a bonus, not the reason to upgrade.
Voice is text-to-speech only, "Hear Your AI Reply With Voice", on Im All In. There are no live calls listed on any plan.
My take: for text roleplay, SpicyChat's content settings are clear and free. For pictures, they're paid, fiddly and less reliable. If pictures are what you want, look at my list of SpicyChat AI alternatives before you spend $19.95 a month here.

Which plan I'd pay for
I paid for exactly one: Get a Taste, $5.95 for one month in July 2025. The $5 tier bought peace. I know I am not built for lines, and skipping the peak-hour waits was the whole point. My total spend across seven weeks was that $5.95.
Get a Taste still costs $5.95 a month today, or $60 a year ($5.00 monthly). It adds no ads, the memory manager, 4K context, up to 10 personas and no waiting lines. For a text roleplayer, that's the whole upgrade you need.
True Supporter at $19.95 a month brings semantic memory 2.0, 8K context, longer replies, more models, 50 personas and as many in-chat images as you like. It's the tier for people who want images, but given the reports on image consistency, I'd only take it if longer memory matters to you.
Im All In at $29.95 a month adds 32K context, a priority queue, SpicyXL and advanced models, voice replies and 100 personas. It is a lot of plan. Unless the biggest context is something you've already missed, pass on it.
Yearly billing takes about 17% off, but I'd start monthly, since refunds are rare once you've used the account.

Is SpicyChat worth paying for?
For text roleplay, only if the queue bothers you. The free tier carried my stories for a season. The $5.95 I paid in July 2025 was for skipping peak-hour waits, and for that it was worth every cent to someone who is not built for lines.
True Supporter is where I'd hesitate. $19.95 a month is fair for 8K context and semantic memory, but if you're paying for images, outside reports on consistency say to lower your hopes. Im All In at $29.95 only makes sense for heavy users who want 32K context and voice replies.
My view: free first, Get a Taste if the lines grate, and anything higher only for a specific feature you've already missed. The plan table on this page shows each tier monthly and yearly.
| SpicyChat option | Billed | Cost | Works out per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Get a Taste | monthly | $5.95 | $5.95 |
| True Supporter | monthly | $19.95 | $19.95 |
| Im All In | monthly | $29.95 | $29.95 |
| Get a Taste | yearly | $60.00 | $5.00 |
| True Supporter | yearly | $199.95 | $16.66 |
| Im All In | yearly | $299.95 | $25.00 |

Rating 8.4/10
The jump between tiers is mostly about memory and media, so here's how I'd read it:
- Free: 4K memory, replies up to 180 tokens, ads, possible queues.
- Get a Taste: memory manager, no ads, no queues, 10 personas.
- True Supporter: 8K context, semantic memory 2.0, unlimited in-chat images, 50 personas.
- Im All In: 32K context, priority queue, voice replies, 100 personas.
The memory manager on Get a Taste is the underrated perk. It stores key details, which is exactly what a long roleplay needs, and it comes at the cheapest paid price. If you only upgrade for one thing, upgrade for that and the queue.
The 180-token reply cap on free is the other thing to know. Replies are shorter, which suits quick back-and-forth but can feel thin in a slow scene. True Supporter lists longer replies, so if your stories run long, that's the reason to go up a tier, not the images.
Outside reviews also note a low aggregate rating, 2/5 on Trustpilot, where people grumble that replies repeat and the logic slips. I'd weigh that against how much free chat you get before paying. To see SpicyChat among other adult-friendly apps, try my NSFW AI chat shortlist.
The good and bad of SpicyChat
What went well
- Unlimited free text chat on the Default model
- A huge community character library and deep roleplay tools
- For $5.95 monthly, Get a Taste clears away ads and queues
- The memory manager stores key details from the cheapest paid tier
- Interface in 9 languages, including French, Spanish, German and Korean
What fell short
- Peak-hour waits on the free plan are real
- Free accounts get no images and no voice
- No refund once you've used the account
- Replies are capped at 180 tokens on free
Cancelling and refunds
When I stopped after seven weeks, I was on a single month of Get a Taste. For cancelling today, the path is Profile, then Manage Subscription, which sends you to the payment platform you paid through. You keep your benefits through the period you've paid for, so an early cancel doesn't cut you off.
Plans renew automatically, monthly or yearly. One detail I like: if the price goes up, subscribers hear about it beforehand. I appreciate that kind of warning.
Refunds are hard to get. After you've used the account, the fees stay with SpicyChat, and the FAQ keeps refunds for exceptional cases only. In practice, assume that once you've chatted on a paid tier, the money is spent. That's another reason I'd pay monthly first rather than for a year.
You can pay by credit or debit card, Apple Pay, cryptocurrency via CoinPayments, and regional options such as Alipay, WeChat Pay, UPI, SamsungPay, Kakao Pay and SBP/SberPay, depending on your country. Since cancelling goes through the payment platform, remember which one you used.
The card statement reads NDAI.CHAT, which doesn't mention roleplay or companions. For a discreet charge, that is about as quiet as it gets.
My advice: pay for one month, put the renewal date in your calendar, and decide before it arrives. If you're weighing SpicyChat against a paid app with images included, my Candy AI vs SpicyChat comparison covers the trade-off.
How safe are your chats here?
This is where the least is on file, and I won't fill the gap with guesses. SpicyChat has nothing on file about how long chats are kept or whether they feed model training. That doesn't mean anything bad is happening. It means I can't tell you, and you should act as if your chats might be stored.
So leave your real name, your job and anything else that points to you out of the roleplay. Use a persona. SpicyChat gives you up to 10 even on the cheapest paid tier, so let the persona carry the story instead of you. And if a feature asks for personal details it doesn't need, skip it.
The age gate is just a box you tick yourself; no ID check was found. The card statement, NDAI.CHAT, is discreet. For payments, cryptocurrency is an option if you'd rather keep a card out of it entirely.
Is SpicyChat AI legit?
Yes. The company behind SpicyChat is NextDay AI Incorporated, based in Montreal (Quebec, Canada), with two sister companies: NextDay AI USA Inc, registered in Delaware, and NextDay AI EU Ltd, based in Limassol, Cyprus. It has been around since 2023, and its plans, renewal rule and cancel path are published. The interface comes in 9 languages, from English and French to Arabic, Hindi and Korean.
The one soft spot is reputation: outside reviews cite a 2/5 Trustpilot score, with users unhappy about repetitive answers and logic mistakes. My seven weeks were steady, so to me that score says "keep your expectations in check", not "this company is dishonest". If it ever stops loading mid-scene, my SpicyChat status page helps you tell your own connection from a wider outage.
Final word on SpicyChat
Final score
8.4/10
GreatSpicyChat is the steady one: a generous free tier, deep roleplay tools and a real community, with a cheap tier that skips the line.
Used hands-on with a paid plan
- Deep roleplay tools and a forum that taught me more craft than most writing podcasts.
- The memory manager on the cheap tier stores key details, with semantic memory above it.
- Design characters from scratch and run plenty of personas.
- In-chat images on paid tiers lack consistency, and voice is narration only.
- The free tier carried me through a season, and the $5 tier bought peace from the queue.
- The charge reads as a neutral code; the legal pages would not render for review.
- Peak-hour waits on free are real, though the company behind it is clearly named.

Author bonus +1.6
Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria (6.8) with the author bonus added on top (+1.6). Every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps
My verdict: if you want free text roleplay that runs long and a queue doesn't bother you, SpicyChat earns its place, and a skip if you want images, voice or privacy terms spelled out.
Get a Taste is my pick, the same $5.95 tier I paid for. It removes ads, skips the lines and adds the memory manager, which covers what a text roleplayer actually misses. What bothers me most is how little is on file about chat storage and training. Close behind is the refund rule, which ends once you use the account.
Skip it if you need pictures of one consistent character, live voice, or a clear privacy statement before you start.

Better picks for other needs
SpicyChat wins on free text and community. When you want something it handles poorly, these are the apps I'd look at, judged by their own plans:
- Voice calls and coins together: OurDream AI lists voice calls, and $19.99 a month on Standard Monthly brings unlimited messages plus 1,000 Dreamcoins.
- Daily free chat, voice when you pay: Nomi AI gives 50 free messages a day, and its $15.99 Standard plan adds voice calls.
- Polish plus pictures: Candy AI's €13.99 monthly plan covers text without limits, while images and video are paid in tokens.
- Messages and images on a monthly plan: at $15 a month, GirlfriendGPT Premium includes 5,000 messages and in-chat images.
My honest take: if SpicyChat's free text suits you, none of these beats it on price. They win on media, voice or polish, and each one costs more to try. I'd only switch once you've felt the lack of one of those, and I'd read each refund rule first, since Nomi AI calls all payments nonrefundable.
For the closest head-to-head on chat and coins, my OurDream AI vs SpicyChat comparison walks through both. Candy AI and OurDream AI both list adult content too, so the content level stays familiar if you move.

OurDream AI

Nomi AI

Those three cards are where I'd send a SpicyChat reader once free text stops being enough. Pick Candy AI for a polished paid companion with images and video on tokens. OurDream AI is the answer when voice calls and a monthly coin balance should come in one plan.
Nomi AI makes sense for a companion with 50 free messages a day and voice calls once you pay. Start with whichever fixes what SpicyChat didn't give you, and check its refund rule before paying. Expect each of them to ask for money sooner, since none offers SpicyChat's unlimited free text.
SpicyChat questions, answered
Is SpicyChat free?
Yes. Free accounts can text without a cap on the Default model, with ads, a possible queue, 4K memory and replies of up to 180 tokens, but no images or voice. The free tier carried me through a season of roleplay in mid-2025. Peak-hour waits were the one thing that pushed me to pay.
How much does SpicyChat cost?
Get a Taste costs $5.95 monthly or $60 yearly, True Supporter $19.95 monthly or $199.95 yearly, and Im All In $29.95 monthly or $299.95 yearly. Yearly plans take about 17% off. I paid $5.95 for one month of Get a Taste in July 2025 to skip the queues.
Does SpicyChat allow NSFW chat?
Yes, the policy allows adult content. Outside reviews say a signed-out visitor gets wholesome-only chat, while a signed-in free account can switch on adult text chat with two toggles. Image generation, including its own content filter, is paid and starts at True Supporter.
Is SpicyChat AI on the web only?
Yes, spicy AI on the web is how SpicyChat works: the platform on file is the web, with no separate app listed. The interface comes in 9 languages. You can pay by card, Apple Pay, cryptocurrency via CoinPayments or regional options such as UPI and Kakao Pay.
How do I cancel SpicyChat?
Go to Profile, then Manage Subscription, which sends you to the payment platform you used. You keep the perks for the rest of the period you paid for. Once you've used the account, fees aren't refundable except in exceptional circumstances, so cancel ahead of renewal if unsure.
Will SpicyChat show up by name on my card?
No, the charge reads NDAI.CHAT, which doesn't mention roleplay or companions. Plans renew automatically, monthly or yearly, and SpicyChat warns subscribers ahead of any price increase.
Does Spicy AI Chat remember what I say?
The official blog promises that it carries your preferences from chat to chat. Free has 4K memory, Get a Taste adds a memory manager that stores key details, True Supporter adds semantic memory 2.0 and 8K context, and Im All In reaches 32K context. For long roleplay, the memory manager is the cheapest real upgrade.
