What is CrushChat, and how did my month start?

My first lesson in April 2024 had nothing to do with chat. CrushChat and CrushOn AI are different apps, and I spent twenty minutes on the wrong site before the logo set me straight. If the other one is what you came for, my write-up of CrushOn AI is the page you want.

CrushChat is a character chat and roleplay app with image generation, run since 2023 by an individual developer in India, on web, iOS and Android. No company is named: one private individual is listed as seller on the App Store and as developer on Google Play. I spent three weeks with it, first on the free plan, then on the flat $10 Silver plan.

The short version of my take: cheap, warm and genuinely fun, but the paperwork is thin, so I'd keep the money small and the personal details out.

Here is what this page covers, in the order I'd want it:

  • Thirty-four free messages a day, and what rationing them was like
  • Silver at $10, the plan I paid for, and what Gold adds at $20
  • The community characters and the content rules
  • Refunds, privacy and a one-person developer
  • The apps I'd send you to instead

How far do 34 free CrushChat messages go?

Thirty-four free messages a day turned me into a rationer. I drafted replies in my notes app like a woman rationing stamps, weighing every line before I spent it. Very on brand for someone who works a circulation desk. Less great as a way to relax.

The Free plan today has the same shape as the one I started on: up to 34 messages a day, all public characters, and up to 2 self-made characters. No coins or tokens exist here, so nothing drains in the background, and I like that honesty. The plan list shows no images on Free, while the pricing notes also mention free Image Playground images, so I'd treat free pictures as a maybe.

Quick math: 34 messages fill a brief evening with a single character, nowhere near a long roleplay. My advice: spend a few days on Free, make a character yourself, and only then think about paying. The CrushChat at a glance box has the short version of all of this.

How I check the apps

What are CrushChat AI characters like to talk to?

The community bots skew warm and weird, and I mean that as praise. My favorite was a middle-aged sea captain who talked about her wife with total sincerity. That ordinary lesbian marriage, played straight with no wink, hit this queer woman in a small city somewhere soft. Plenty of apps quietly assume one kind of user. I like an app where a character like her simply exists in the public library of bots.

Free gives you all public characters, and the paid plans let you shape them. Silver lets you edit any character's persona and first messages, and it lifts the limit on making your own. Gold adds Story Mode, which the pricing page describes as interactive, branching stories with multiple characters, plus 16 persona slots.

If you enjoy playing different versions of yourself across a story, that is a lot of room for the money.

Memory is where I have to be careful. According to the App Store listing, characters keep your past chats in mind and grow from them, and Gold promises twice the memory capacity and personal details remembered across conversations. How well any of that works is not stated officially, and my own three weeks left me no memory story to tell you.

So my view is simple: enjoy the characters for what they are, and do not pay for Gold on a memory promise alone.

Nowhere is a classic group chat described; the nearest thing is Story Mode. If you want to see how CrushChat stacks up on characters and chat against everything else I cover, my index of every app review lists them side by side.

18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.

What does CrushChat allow, and what changes when you pay?

CrushChat allows adult content, with the same content rules on every plan. The terms say you should be at least 18 to access the site, and no further check is described. I read the level as open, with the tone set by the character you pick or build.

What the plans change is everything around the text:

On Free, you chat in text within the daily cap. Silver adds unlimited messages, images and audio, lets you ask for a picture on any character's message yourself, and includes the Sparkle image bot on Discord. Gold adds voice calls, a spoken back-and-forth with the character in their own voice, and Talking Avatars, an alpha feature where the avatar lip-syncs as the character speaks.

My opinion: the jump from Free to Silver is the one that matters. It removes the cap and brings pictures and audio. Gold is double the price for voice and an experiment that still carries the alpha label, and I would not pay twice as much for an alpha.

What I miss is a plain published list of what the app does not allow. Nothing on record spells that out. That does not make CrushChat unsafe on its face, but it leaves more to one developer's judgement than I'd like.

For queer and inclusive readers, the character tools are the good news. You can build your own characters, edit personas on Silver and keep up to 16 persona slots on Gold, so you are not stuck with defaults written for someone else. That is exactly the kind of room I want from an app like this.

If you came here looking for a steady companion more than a character hub, my ranking of AI girlfriend apps puts the memory and voice apps first.

Who CrushChat suits

  • Readers who want a real daily free allowance with no coins
  • Anyone who likes building and editing their own characters
  • People who want flat, low monthly prices
  • Queer readers who want characters written without assumptions
  • Fans of branching stories with several characters, on Gold

Skip if

  • Anyone who needs a named company behind an app
  • Readers who want long sessions for free

  • Anyone who needs detailed privacy rules

What CrushChat costs, and what I paid

Two flat monthly plans and no coins: Silver is $10 a month and Gold is $20 a month. No weekly plans, no token bundles, no image credits to count. After my rationing days on Free, I moved to the flat $10 Silver plan in April 2024, and it is still $10 today. That kind of stable price is rarer than it should be.

Silver covers unlimited messages, images, audio and character creation, persona and first-message editing, image requests on messages and the Sparkle bot on Discord. Gold stacks voice calls, Talking Avatars, Story Mode, twice the memory capacity, memory of your details across chats, priority access, multiple saved chat histories per character and 16 persona slots on top.

My take: $10 is a fair price for unlimited chat with images. Gold at $20 only makes sense if voice calls are the reason you came. There is no yearly plan or longer discount, and given how little is published about cancelling, I don't mind paying month by month here.

Prices from CrushChat's pricing page on 23 September 2026. I paid the same $10 for Silver in April 2024.

Is CrushChat worth paying for?

For the right reader, yes. The flat $10 unlimited ended my rationing era, and it did exactly what it promised: no cap, no counting. The arithmetic and the romance were both fun while they lasted, and I can admit which one I miss. That says something about the free plan too. It is tight enough that it shapes how you talk.

If you keep hitting 34 messages a day, Silver is the plan I'd buy. It is the same plan I paid for, at the same price. I'd move to Gold only for voice calls or Story Mode. The memory upgrades sound nice, but nothing published says how well they work.

The catch that shapes my advice is the billing paperwork: no published cancel path or renewal rule, and refunds handled by hand. So my route would be a store purchase, Apple's or Google's, one month at a time.

The plan table right after this paragraph lines up Free, Silver and Gold in columns, so what each upgrade brings is easy to spot.

CrushChat option Billed Cost Works out per month
Silver monthly $10.00 $10.00
Gold monthly $20.00 $20.00

CrushChat earned 5.5/10 in my hands-on review and starts at $10/mo. I have no referral deal here, so the link is a normal one. Go to the official CrushChat site

The closest alternative I would suggest

The plain link above goes straight to CrushChat's own website, and the card next to it is an app I'd suggest for a different reason. Before you click through and pay, these are the points I'd pass on to a friend:

  • One private individual runs the app, and no company is named
  • Refunds are handled manually by the developer on request
  • No cancel path or renewal rule is published
  • You can pay with Apple in-app, Google Play or crypto on Polygon
  • A few App Store reviews call the app hard to trust

None of this makes CrushChat a scam in my eyes. A solo developer can run a good app, and the prices here are about as clear as prices get. It does mean the safety net is thinner than with a bigger company. So I'd lean on Apple or Google when paying and keep the first purchase to a single month.

If a named company with a written refund window matters more to you than a low price, my OurDream AI review covers one with a 14-day quality guarantee. The pros and cons below sum up where I land.

The good and bad of CrushChat

What went well

  • A real free plan with up to 34 messages a day
  • Flat monthly prices with no coins or tokens
  • Silver at $10 unlocks unlimited messages, images and audio
  • You can edit any character's persona and first messages on paid plans
  • Available on the web plus iOS and Android apps

What fell short

  • Run by a private individual with no company named
  • No published cancel path or renewal rule
  • A thin privacy policy with no retention period
  • Talking Avatars is still in alpha

How do you cancel CrushChat, and can you get a refund?

My three weeks ended in April 2024. Two years on, CrushChat still publishes no cancel path, no renewal rule and no statement name. The only billing rule on record is a line in the FAQ, last updated in December 2024: the developer handles every refund by hand, and unhappy buyers are told to get in touch.

I find that line a little disarming, honestly. It is personal, and a flexible person can be kinder than a rigid policy. But it is still one person's promise with nothing written behind it, so I wouldn't count on it the way I'd count on a refund window.

My practical advice follows from that. Use Apple's or Google's store checkout if you can, because both let you manage and cancel a subscription from your own phone's settings, without waiting on the developer. The other method on record is crypto on Polygon.

I'd skip it unless you are very comfortable with crypto, since no store stands between you and the seller if something goes wrong.

Whichever route you pick, cancel a few days before the month ends and take a screenshot of your plan when you subscribe. If you ever want money back, write to the developer early and keep the conversation in writing.

A missing cancel path costs any app points in my scoring, and the way I score apps on this site explains the reasoning. I don't read it as bad faith. It is simply a gap that lands on every paying reader, not on the developer.

Is CrushChat private enough for your chats?

The privacy policy is short and generic. It reads like a template, naming "My Company" as the operator of crushchat.app, with an effective date of 4/24/2023. It covers log data, cookies and Google Analytics, and says personal information is used only for providing and improving the site. There is no retention or deletion period, and no statement about whether chats train a model.

I don't read that as a sign of misuse, and nothing on record points to a leak. It just means very little is in writing about what happens to your chats. With CrushChat, I'd keep four things out of the chat: your full name, your workplace, photos of yourself, and anything you would hate to see outside the app. Let the characters be as wild as you like and keep your own identity out of it.

Payment is the one bright spot. Through Apple or Google, the charge goes through a store you already use. The statement name itself is not published, though, so I can't promise how discreet it looks.

Can you trust a one-person app like CrushChat?

It has run since 2023, it sits on both app stores, and the prices are plain. Against that, a number of App Store reviews say they don't trust it, and third-party write-ups point to limited transparency about who runs it. I take both seriously, because a missing company name is exactly what makes those worries hard to answer.

My view sits in the middle. I'd trust CrushChat with $10 for a month, paid through an app store, and with chats that carry no personal details. I wouldn't trust it with much more until the paperwork catches up. If you want the adult side from apps with fuller policies, my NSFW AI chat rankings list several.

Final word on CrushChat

Final score

5.5/10

Uneven

CrushChat has warm, odd community bots and a flat price that ended my message rationing, but it is a one-person shop with a thin privacy policy.

Used hands-on with a paid plan

  • Community bots run warm and weird, like a sea captain who talked about her wife with total sincerity.
  • The top plan advertises cross-conversation recall; the free plan offers nothing special.
  • Two characters on free, unlimited once you pay.
  • Images and audio arrive with the paid tiers, with calls and talking avatars at the top.
  • Thirty-four free messages a day made me ration; the flat $10 unlimited plan ended that.
  • The privacy policy is a short generic template with no retention period.
  • Run by a lone developer, often confused with CrushOn AI, and some reviewers call it untrustworthy.

Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria, and every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps

My verdict: CrushChat is worth it for readers who want cheap, warm character chat with a real free plan; skip it if you need a named company, a published cancel path or real privacy rules.

The plan I'd buy is Silver at $10 a month, bought via Apple's or Google's store. It is what I paid for in April 2024, it still costs the same, and it ends the rationing for good.

The part that bothers me most is CrushChat's paperwork: a template privacy policy, no cancel steps and refunds that depend on one person's goodwill.

Who should skip it: anyone who wants formal refund rules, anyone uneasy about an app with no company behind it, and anyone who plans to share personal details in chat.

The closest alternative I would suggest

When another app suits you better than CrushChat

CrushChat wins on price and characters and loses on paperwork. If you want a different balance, here is where I'd look, each for one reason:

  • Nomi AI, for a named company and a roomier free plan: 50 messages a day with no ads, from Glimpse.ai, Inc. in Maryland.
  • Candy AI, for voice calls and a known statement name, EverAI, with the 1-Month Plan at €13.99.
  • OurDream AI, for group chat and video, a 14-day quality guarantee and Standard Monthly at $19.99.
  • GirlfriendGPT, for a clear message count: 5,000 messages a month on Premium at $15.

My lean: Nomi AI for peace of mind and a free plan that goes further, CrushChat for the lowest flat price and the friendliest bots. OurDream AI is my pick if pictures and video matter more than cost and a written refund window helps you commit.

If what you loved here was the public character library, a community of odd, sincere bots to wander through, my SpicyChat review covers another hub built around community characters and roleplay. It is worth a look before you settle on one app for the long haul.

Instead of CrushChat

The next three apps I would open, and the reason.

Here is what I'd tell a friend: start CrushChat on Free, give the public characters a few evenings, and build one of your own. If 34 messages a day starts to feel like rationing stamps, Silver at $10 is a fair next step, paid through your phone's app store, one month at a time.

Keep personal details out of your chats, because the privacy policy says almost nothing. For one more comparison before you decide, my Joi review is worth ten minutes. The questions below cover the free plan, the two paid tiers, refunds and who runs CrushChat.

CrushChat questions, answered

Is CrushChat free?

Yes, with a daily cap. The Free plan gives up to 34 messages a day, all public characters and up to 2 characters of your own, with no coins or tokens. When I started in April 2024 the cap was the same 34, and it made me ration every reply. Silver at $10 a month removes it and adds images and audio.

Who runs CrushChat?

An individual developer in India. No company is named; both app stores list one private individual as seller and developer. The app launched in 2023 and runs on web, iOS and Android. Some write-ups note limited transparency about who runs it, which is worth weighing before you pay.

What is the difference between CrushChat Silver and Gold?

Silver at $10 a month unlocks unlimited messages, images, audio and character creation, plus editing any character's persona and first messages. Gold at $20 a month adds voice calls, Talking Avatars in alpha, Story Mode, twice the memory capacity, memory of your details across chats, priority access and 16 persona slots. I paid for Silver, and it is the plan I'd pick again.

Does CrushChat allow adult content?

Yes. CrushChat allows adult content, and its terms say users should be at least 18. The paid plans do not change the content rules. They add unlimited messages, images and audio on Silver, and voice calls, Story Mode and Talking Avatars on Gold.

Can I get a refund from CrushChat?

Refunds are handled manually by the developer. The FAQ asks anyone unhappy with a purchase to get in touch. There is no formal refund window beyond that, so contact the developer early and keep a written record. Buying via Apple or Google also puts their subscription tools in your hands.

Is CrushChat the same as CrushOn AI?

No, they are different apps, and I lost twenty minutes to that mix-up myself in April 2024. CrushChat is run by an individual developer in India, with Silver and Gold monthly plans. CrushOn AI is a separate service with its own plans and policies, covered in its own review on this site.
