PolyBuzz Review: Seven Weeks of Free Fandom Chat
No-cost option: Ad-supported text chat using the Standard model, 2 voice plays at no cost and 1 starter image generation.
starts at $8.25/mo
What is PolyBuzz, and why did I go back to it?
I spent seven weeks on PolyBuzz in early 2025, the tail end after the rebrand, on the same account I had used before it. I paid nothing. The first day I spent twenty minutes just scrolling everything, like visiting the branch I grew up with after a renovation: familiar shelves, new paint, far more on them.
PolyBuzz is a character chat app from Hong Kong's Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited, where you talk to community-made characters or build your own, on web, iOS and Android. My take in one line: the free text chat and the fandom catalog are superb, the content stays soft, and memory costs extra.
Here is what this review answers, in order:
- What free chat covers today, and where coins come in
- How good the characters are, and where memory slips
- How far the filter lets a flirty scene go
- Which plan I'd pick, and the one I'd avoid
- Privacy, billing and cancelling through Apple or Google
If you're wondering what changed along the way, my guide on what happened to PolyBuzz covers the story so far.

Sign-up and the free chat
The PolyBuzz sign-up is light. On first use you enter your date of birth, and you can carry on as a guest or register. No card, no wall of forms before the first message, and I love that.
The free plan covers text chat on the Standard model with ads, two free voice plays, and a single image generation as a starter. The FAQ calls chat "free, unlimited, and private", and no daily message ceiling is published anywhere official. For PolyBuzz AI free chat, that is the headline: ordinary text messages cost no coins at all.
My seven weeks ran entirely on free text chat, and that is the part I'd recommend without hesitation.
Coins pay for regenerating a reply, extending voice chat, generating images and unlocking special chat moments. Other reviewers complain that the free version is crowded with pop-up ads. Ads are written into the free plan itself, so I believe it, and it's a fair trade for talk that costs nothing.
The at-a-glance box sums up the rest. If the app misbehaves on a given day, my page on what happened to PolyBuzz today is the place to look first.

How good is PolyBuzz AI chat for fandom roleplay?
This is where PolyBuzz earned its seven weeks. Free text chat with a huge fandom catalog and quick, in-character replies is a rare mix. A bot once referenced a two-line joke from the source material's third act, and I had to sit down where I stood. A detail like that tells you a character was written by someone who loves the source.
AI chat roleplay on PolyBuzz is built around those characters. Making one is free, and you set the voice, tags, story and appearance, with the "+" button in the app or "Create Character" on the web. You can also import characters from Character.AI, Pygmalion and other services, which I adore for anyone with a favourite they don't want to leave behind.
Every AI chat character on PolyBuzz comes from the community or from you, so the catalog grows with its fans.
Where PolyBuzz slips is memory. Other reviewers report that details slip in long scenes, and in one account a scene that began at a train station ended up in a hotel without any bridge. Free chat runs on the Standard model, the stronger memory models start at Premium, and a Permanent Memory model is an Ultimate extra.
My view: for short fandom scenes, the free model is plenty; for a long, steady plot, budget for Premium or accept some drift.
Voice is a split verdict. One review rates the voices 4.2/5, another calls them artificial and too slow. Two free voice plays let you judge for yourself, which is the right way round.
If replies stop coming, check whether PolyBuzz is down before you blame your connection or the character.
18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.
How flirty can a scene get before the filter steps in?
PolyBuzz sits on the gentle side of the line. Its content policy is soft, and reviews describe scenes that stay suggestive rather than explicit. I'd file it under Romantic to Suggestive, not Full 18+.
My own notes agree. Its filter is more relaxed than Character.AI's without being absent, and now and then a flirty scene stopped dead mid-sentence. When I stopped in February 2025, that filter was part of the story. If slow-burn romance is your main genre, expect the occasional cut.
For some readers that level is a plus: flirty roleplay without anything you wouldn't want on a screen in a café. For others it is a deal breaker, and that is a fair call. No setting named in the official pages lifts the level, so please don't subscribe hoping one appears later.
I also won't help anyone dodge it: working around an app's filter goes against its rules and puts your account at risk. If you're curious what the options really are, my guide on whether you can remove the chat filter on PolyBuzz answers it honestly.
Where PolyBuzz shines for me is choice. Whether you want a PolyBuzz girl, a PolyBuzz femboy, a boyfriend or the side character nobody else ships, you build them yourself instead of settling for a default. That matters to me as a queer reader who wants apps to stop assuming one kind of user.
The interface also comes in a long list of languages, from Arabic to Vietnamese, which is a quiet kindness.
Images are the mixed bag. One review praises the generator as the standout feature, another points to hand and eye errors, and everything it makes is a static image, with no video on record.
Who PolyBuzz suits
Great for
- Fandom fans who want a huge catalog of characters for free
- Readers who want free text chat without a published daily cap
- Anyone who loves building characters of any gender or style
- Fans bringing characters over from Character.AI or Pygmalion
Skip if
- Anyone who wants fully explicit text chat
- Readers who need strong memory without paying for Premium or Ultimate
- People who can't stand ads in a free plan
- Anyone looking for group chats with several characters
What the plans cost, and the one I'd avoid
My seven weeks cost $0, and for fandom chat I'd tell most people to stay there. If you do pay, there are three tiers: Standard, Premium and Ultimate. Monthly plans are sold in the App Store, yearly plans on the web, and Standard also comes as a weekly plan.
Premium brings chat models with stronger memory, voice listening without limits, priority chat and no ads. Ultimate stacks the Permanent Memory, Overture, Lumina, Conqueror and Saga models on top, plus extra profile customisation.
The plan I'd avoid is the weekly one. At $4.99 a week it works out to $21.62 a month, more than Premium monthly at $19.90, for the tier with the least on paper. Standard monthly is $9.90, and the yearly web prices are $99, $199 and $299.
Next to rivals, Premium monthly lands right beside OurDream AI's Standard Monthly at $19.99, and above Nomi AI's $15.99. Coins are separate and priced in euros, from €2.59 for 1,000 up to €20.99 for 20,000. The catch: the coin price of one image is not published, so I can't do the quick math for you. My full list of app reviews sets every rival's plans out the same way.

Monthly plans are App Store prices, yearly plans are web checkout prices; my pick is Premium monthly only if memory is your gap.
Which PolyBuzz plan would I start with?
Free, for several evenings at least. Text chat is free, so paying makes no sense until you've learned whether the characters, and the soft content level, suit you.
If memory turns out to be the gap, my pick is Premium monthly at $19.90. It is the first tier with stronger memory models, it drops the ads, and monthly keeps you free to leave. Move to the yearly Premium plan at $199, which works out to $16.58 a month, only once you are sure you'll stay.
Ultimate makes sense only if the Permanent Memory model is what you want. The plan cards on this page list every price side by side.

The closest alternative I would suggest
Joi AI
starts at $13.99/mo, free plan on offer
Rating 5.8/10
Before you tap through to the official site, here is what I'd keep in mind. PolyBuzz is cheap to try and easy to overspend on if you chase images and re-rolls, so a few ground rules help:
- Text messages never cost coins, but regenerating a reply does
- Voice beyond the two free plays needs a plan or coins
- The coin cost of one image is not published
- Refunds are refused without due reason, so start monthly
- Payment works by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay
None of this is scary. It just means your wallet should follow a plan: free chat first, one subscription at a time, and coins only for a clear reason. I'd also set expectations on content before paying a cent, since no plan changes the soft level.
If that is your main question, my guide to whether PolyBuzz has a filter covers what the rules allow.
My personal rule for this app is simple. Pay for memory if you need it, never for hope that the filter loosens.
The good and bad of PolyBuzz
What went well
- Text chat is free, with no published daily message cap
- A huge fandom catalog with quick, in-character replies
- Character creation is free, with voice, tags, story and appearance settings
- Imports characters from Character.AI, Pygmalion and other services
- Runs on web, iOS and Android in many languages
What fell short
- The filter can cut off a flirty scene mid-sentence
- The free plan shows ads
- Stronger memory models only start at Premium
- Completed purchases aren't refunded without due reason
How do you cancel PolyBuzz without a surprise charge?
I stayed on the free plan the whole time, so I never had anything to cancel. If you subscribe, know that plans renew on their own unless you cancel by the final day of the period at the latest. That wording is strict, so I'd cancel a day or two ahead instead of waiting for the final evening.
The official FAQ gives the steps per store. On iOS the route is Settings app > your Apple ID > Subscriptions > PolyBuzz > Cancel Subscription. A PolyBuzz Google Play subscription goes through the Play Store app instead: menu > Subscriptions > PolyBuzz > Cancel Subscription. You keep your benefits through to the close of the billing cycle you're in.
What the FAQ does not cover is a cancel path for the yearly plans bought on the web. Nothing on file describes that path, which pushes me further toward a monthly plan in the store you already use.
Now the part I don't like. Under the terms, a completed purchase earns no refund unless there's due reason, and cancelling later doesn't bring the money back either. That is a mean rule for a yearly plan at $199 or $299. On a monthly plan it barely matters; before the big one, it should make you pause.
If the content rules are why you're leaving, read my compliance-policy guide for PolyBuzz first, so you know what the PolyBuzz compliance policy does and doesn't let you change. And the free plan stays open after you cancel, so stepping down costs you nothing.
Is PolyBuzz safe with your chats and your data?
Here is where I slow down. Input text is one of the data types PolyBuzz's privacy policy says it collects, and the policy says photos and precise geolocation are collected to train its AI algorithm. Third parties that help run features can receive information too, and the policy names the Chat-GPT platform among them.
It does not say plainly whether your chat messages themselves train a model, so I treat that as unclear, not as a no.
You can delete your account under Settings > Delete Account. The catch: backup copies can linger until the next backup update, and the policy holds personal information only as long as it is needed, with no fixed number of days. Leave real names, addresses and photos of yourself out of the chat, and don't grant location access unless a feature truly needs it.
The date of birth you enter at first use is a self-declaration, and users in the UK are also checked through Ondato and Yoti. The statement name on your bank is not on record. Paying through the app store you already use is the discreet choice I'd make.
PolyBuzz history: is it legit, and is it here to stay?
It is a real product from a named Hong Kong company, with listings in both Google Play and the App Store, and with terms, a privacy policy and a refund rule in writing. The PolyBuzz history is thin, though. The launch year is not on record, and my own account carrying over through the rebrand is the one piece of continuity I can vouch for myself.
That continuity matters to me. An app that keeps your account through a rebrand respects the time you put in. If you'd still like a backup plan, my list of apps like PolyBuzz covers the closest rivals.
Final word on PolyBuzz
Final score
6.1/10
OkayPolyBuzz understood the fandom assignment: a huge catalog and sharp in-character replies for free, with a filter that still walks in at the wrong moment.
Used hands-on with the free plan
- Quick in-character replies; a bot quoted a two-line joke from the source's third act.
- Long scenes drift, and stronger memory models sit in the higher tiers.
- Free character creation, with import from other apps.
- Image generation of mixed quality and capped voice playback, no video.
- Free text chat with ads covers most needs; coins gate regenerations and images, and refunds are refused.
- The operator in the terms differs from the app store seller, and training use is unstated.
- Stable after the rebrand, though the filter still cuts flirty scenes mid-sentence.
Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria, and every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps
My verdict: PolyBuzz is worth it for free fandom chat and soft, flirty roleplay, and a skip if you want fully explicit text or long memory without paying. For a queer woman who has shipped side characters for half her life, this app understood the assignment. I still do, and that is the whole review.
The plan I'd buy is Premium monthly, and only after a long run on the free plan, because it is the first tier with stronger memory models and no ads, and monthly billing protects you from the strict refund rule. What bothers me most is the filter cutting a scene mid-sentence. Skip it if that would break the spell for you, or if you need a companion that keeps the thread of a long story for free.

When another app fits you better than PolyBuzz
PolyBuzz is a fandom playground first and a companion second. That's perfect for variety, but it leaves gaps for anyone after a single steady partner who keeps the thread. If your heart is set on something else, these are the apps I'd look at, each for one clear reason:
- Nomi AI, if memory matters most: memory is a listed feature, and free users get 50 ad-free messages a day.
- Candy AI, if you want voice calls and memory and don't mind paying from €13.99 a month; the free start is only a handful of messages.
- OurDream AI, if group chat and video appeal to you; Standard Monthly is $19.99, and the free plan lists 55 Dreamcoins at 1 per message.
- GirlfriendGPT, if you want a clear message count: a 20-message bonus, then 10 a day through Daily Login, and Premium at $15 a month.
My personal lean: Nomi AI for readers who want to be remembered, PolyBuzz for readers who want a catalog of favourites for free. Candy AI suits someone who already knows they will pay.
Before you switch, one note on rumours. If you landed here asking whether PolyBuzz got banned, that guide has the answer, so you don't abandon a free app over something you read in passing.

If a coworker asked me where to begin, I'd say: open PolyBuzz, search your favourite fandom, and chat for a week without paying a cent. If a character lands a joke only a true fan would catch, you've found your free hobby. If you keep wishing it remembered more, try Premium for one month, not a year.
Keep your real name and photos out of the chat, and read the refund line before any yearly plan. The page on how I check the apps explains where each fact here comes from. The questions below cover the rest.
PolyBuzz questions, answered
Is PolyBuzz AI free?
Yes, for text. The free plan includes text chat on the Standard model with ads, two voice plays at no cost, plus one starter image generation, and no daily message cap is published. Coins cost money and pay for things like images, re-rolls and longer voice chat.
I used only the free text chat for seven weeks in early 2025, and I think it is an honest free plan.
Is PolyBuzz safe to use?
It is a real app from a named Hong Kong company, on Google Play and the App Store. Its privacy policy says photos and precise geolocation are collected to train its AI, and third parties such as the Chat-GPT platform can receive data. Whether chat text trains a model is unclear. My advice: say no to location access, and never type anything that identifies you.
Why isn't PolyBuzz working?
Start with the PolyBuzz status page, and look there before anything else. The app runs on web, iOS and Android, so if one of them fails, trying another is a quick way to see whether the problem is the service or your device. My advice: check the status first, then reload before assuming anything is wrong with your account.
Can I use PolyBuzz for drawing?
Not as a drawing tool. Its Generate Image feature turns text prompts into static images, with one image generation free to start and coins after that. No video feature is on record. Reviews of the images are split: one calls the generator the standout feature, another points to hand and eye errors. I'd treat it as a bonus next to the chat.
Can I get a refund from PolyBuzz?
Usually not. The terms deny refunds on completed purchases without due reason, and a later cancellation doesn't change that. That is why I'd start with a monthly plan and only commit to a yearly one when you are sure the app suits you.
Who makes PolyBuzz?
The operator is Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited, registered in Hong Kong. You can use it in a browser or on iOS and Android, and you must be 18 or older to use it. The launch year is not published. My own account carried over through its rebrand, which I count in its favour.
