SpicyChat AI alternatives: 11 roleplay apps ranked

My honest take: if you mostly want to stay free, read the free starts below closely, because most of these apps are built around a paid plan. Where they shine is pictures, voice and memory.

All eleven pass the first test, and all but Candy AI, which keeps adult content for paid plans, pass the second.

After that, I weigh what a SpicyChat user would notice in a switch. Is there group chat for multi-character scenes? Are images, voice and video included, or sold as coins on top? Is the free start published in plain numbers, and how strict is the refund rule?

Nothing here comes from hands-on use. My own notes on every app here live in its review, and the order draws on pricing pages, terms and help pages, plus reviewer notes where they add something useful. I'll tell you where a catch sits, but I won't pretend to know how a scene plays out.

If you want to stay free, Nomi AI's 50 messages a day and Secret Desires AI's 30 a day are the clearest daily allowances. If you want the lowest paid price, CrushOn AI's Standard plan is $5.99 a month.

The six entries below cover each top pick: why it's a SpicyChat alternative, the free start, the plan I'd pay for, the catch and who should skip it.

The free plan is permanent: 50 messages a day, up to 400 characters each, no ads, plus 2 images a day. That's a published number that resets, and of the eleven apps here it's the one I'd call a real free plan rather than a trial. The 400-character cap is the catch for roleplay, since long scene-setting posts get cut short.

Group scenes are paid. Standard Plan Monthly at $15.99 opens up to 10 active Nomis and as many as 10 active group chats, with unlimited messaging at 800 characters, voice calls and 40 image credits a day. The quarterly plan is $39.99, or $13.33 a month, and the yearly one is $99.99, or $8.33 a month. Since all payments are nonrefundable, I'd run the free plan for a while first.

Images are the weak spot. Reviewers say you pick them from a ready-made gallery and cannot write your own prompt, and that adult requests are often refused. Voice calls reportedly lag 15-20 seconds, too.

Skip Nomi AI if pictures drive your scenes. For apps with lighter content filters overall, my uncensored AI list is the place to look.

The trade runs the other way on free. SpicyChat lets you text without a cap; Candy AI's Help Centre allows up to 5 messages in total, and its adult content is paid-only, unlike SpicyChat's free toggles. So this is a paid-first move, not a free one.

The 1-Month Plan is €13.99 with unlimited text, custom companions and 100 tokens monthly, and the 12-Month Plan averages €3.99 a month. Tokens pay for images at 2 each, voice at about 3 a minute according to outside sources, and video from 12. There's no big community library like SpicyChat's, and group chat isn't confirmed.

Memory is the catch for roleplayers: other reviewers say details hold for roughly 10-20 messages. Refund requests outside the EU and UK have a 24-hour window, and spending over 20 tokens ends it. The free start is a sample, not a home. Joining and browsing are free, and 55 Dreamcoins come with the account, with chat at 1 Dreamcoin per message. The help pages admit there are no free dreamcoins by default after that, and I appreciate the honesty.

For roleplay, Standard Monthly at $19.99 is the plan I'd start with: unlimited messages with any AI character, image and video generation, and 1,000 dreamcoins a month. On a yearly bill, Standard Annual comes to $9.99 a month. Deluxe adds 3x chat memory, which long campaigns will like, but at $59.99 a month it's a lot to pay before you know you'll stay.

The catch is the coin meter. Other reviewers report video is short and coin-hungry, and that voice calls drain coins fast. The 14-day Quality Guarantee is the safety net: ask support within 14 days of purchase for a credit, replacement or refund, handled case by case.

Premium Monthly at $13.99 is the plan that makes sense to me. It unlocks better chat models, improved chat memory, one free custom-character creation, about 50 image generations a month and about 5 free videos. That's a fair monthly price for what's listed.

The free account is mostly a look at the art. You get 6 lifetime image generations, stored for 7 days, and free character creation to start, while free-tier chat is described as stiff and forgetful. Premium is where the chat is said to warm up. I'd use the free images to judge the style and nothing more.

Two catches for roleplay fans. Faces and eyes can drift off-model between images, and a failed attempt still spends Neurons. And subscriptions are generally non-refundable once activated, with partial periods not refunded.

Charges show as joi.com, and cancelling happens under My Subscriptions. Skip Joi AI if you want a free plan to live on. If a companion matters more to you than scenes, my AI girlfriend picks look at that side.

The plan is called Free, and it gives 20 messages a day, all companions, basic memory and one free custom companion. That daily figure comes from hands-on reviews that all agree, not from the official page. It resets daily, which beats a starter balance, but 20 messages won't carry a long scene.

Premium at $19.99 a month brings unlimited messaging, 8,000 Moments a month, premium AI models, and generation of both images and video; yearly costs $109.99. If group roleplay is your thing, note that group chats sit on Ultimate at $39.99, alongside personas and advanced customisation. That's a steep price for a feature some apps here include far lower.

The catch is money. There are no partial refunds for unused days, and Moments purchases are final. Image faces can drift off-model too, and a failed attempt still spends Moments.

Skip Secrets AI if you want group chats on a budget. If free chat time matters most to you, my free AI chat list goes further on that.

The free start is decent. A free-tier check dated 2026-09-22 shows a monthly 100 message credits, topped up by coins you earn from daily tasks. The Free plan also lists unlimited Free models and AI voice replies, with 8K memory and no group chat. So you can keep chatting on the Free models after the credits run out, which I like.

The paid plans are the cheapest way into this list. Standard is $5.99 a month for 2,000 message credits, 16K memory models and group chat, or $58.88 a year, which is $4.91 a month. Premium at $14.99 triples the credits to 6,000. Luxe and Elite go far beyond what most people need. For text roleplay on a budget, Standard is the plan I'd pick.

Now the catches, and they're real. Other reviewers report a Trustpilot rating around 1.8-2 out of 5 from a small number of reviews, with complaints about double-charging, unresponsive support and content filters triggering on innocent roleplay. Reviewers also call a lot of the listed chat models buggy or outdated, so expect some trial and error.

And the refund rule is strict: no refunds of usage fees and no partial refunds for unused time.

If you do subscribe, the bank line reads CRUSHON SUB, and on web billing you cancel through Profile, My Subscription, Manage, then Cancel Subscription. Given those double-charging complaints, I'd keep an eye on your statement after the first renewal.

Coins, credits and Moments sit on top of several of these, so the sticker price isn't always the bill. My rule: one paid month first. Almost every refund rule here is strict, and a yearly plan you regret is the priciest mistake on this page.

Group chat. OurDream AI, CrushOn AI, JuicyChat, Nastia AI and Soulkyn list group chat, and Nomi AI and Secrets AI keep it on paid plans. CrushOn AI's Standard at $5.99 is the cheapest way to get it. Secret Desires AI has no group chat at all.

Images and video. CrushOn AI has neither. OurDream AI, Joi AI, Candy AI, Secrets AI, Nastia AI, DreamGF, Soulkyn and Secret Desires AI all generate images and list video too, often on paid plans only. On JuicyChat's free plan, a photo costs 30 coins.

Voice. OurDream AI, Candy AI, Soulkyn and Secret Desires AI list voice calls, and Nomi AI has them on paid plans. Nastia AI has voice messages but no voice calls, and CrushOn AI's free plan includes AI voice replies.

Free daily messages. Nomi AI gives 50 a day, Secret Desires AI 30 and Secrets AI 20. CrushOn AI has 100 message credits each month, and its Free models are unlimited.

My take: for text-only roleplay with group scenes, CrushOn AI is the value pick, catches and all. For roleplay with pictures and voice, my money would go to OurDream AI, and Secret Desires AI's Pro at $7.99 is the budget version worth a look.

• The bank line. OurDream AI shows DREAM STUDIO LLC AL and Secrets AI shows S LABS INC., neither naming the app. Secret Desires AI shows SDAI. Joi AI, Nomi AI, CrushOn AI, JuicyChat and Nastia AI use lines that carry the app's name.
• Anonymous payment. Secrets AI offers an anonymous-signup and crypto-payment option.
• Renewal. JuicyChat bills its annual plans once, with nothing set to auto-renew, which I wish more apps did. Most others renew automatically.
• Your details. Keep your real name, workplace and address out of roleplay, however deep the scene goes.

On refunds, OurDream AI's 14-day Quality Guarantee is one of the friendliest here. CrushOn AI, Nomi AI and Joi AI are strict, so let the free start do the convincing.
