DreamGF AI review: the pictures won, the chat did not

I used it for three months, October to December 2023, and one of those months was paid. My short version: DreamGF is half of a great app. The picture half is excellent. The talking half never caught up.

What the app looks like today, from its official pages:

• A free trial for new users, with no message count published
• Intro memberships from $12.99 for a month, down to $5.99 a month on a year
• 100 tokens a month with a membership, spent on images, voice and new companions
• Text messages cost 0 tokens
• Adult content allowed; web only, English interface

One more thing I noticed back then, and it matters to me as a queer woman: the ready-made roster assumed the person chatting was a man. More on that below. For a chat-first app to weigh against this builder-first one, my CrushOn AI review is the natural comparison.

Secondary sources add detail, so treat it as unofficial: a daily claim streak that gives 10 free messages on day one, growing by 1 a day up to 50 by day 40, and resetting if you skip a day. Another source mentions 15 tokens for verifying your email. Other reviewers report that the trial messages ran out before they could judge a character properly.

My advice: spend the trial on the builder, not the chat. Make one character, request a picture or two if the trial allows it, and see whether she looks like the person you imagined. That's the part DreamGF does best, and it's the part a short trial can actually show you.

That matches what other reviewers report: DreamGF is better at visuals than at long, emotionally rich conversation, and its chat depth sits below rivals at a similar price. So it isn't just me being picky.

The roster was my other friction. The ready-made characters assumed a man was on the other side of the screen. As a queer woman, I get tired of being the plot twist in someone else's setup. The builder is the workaround, since you can design her physical attributes and personality traits yourself.

The official pages don't say which options exist for gender or body types, though, so look in the builder before paying if that matters to you the way it matters to me.

On memory, secondary sources say the official chat pages describe characters using past interactions and preferences. How well that works isn't stated officially.

My honest summary: DreamGF is an app for creating her and looking at her. Talking to her is the supporting act. That's a fair product for some people. If conversation is the reason you're here, though, I'd look elsewhere first, and my full list of app reviews sorts the chat-first options for you.

Photos are generated in real time when you ask for them in chat. Today's pricing policy lists 10 tokens per image, image generation up to 5x faster for members, and an option to remove blur from images. One review site describes plain-background portraits with a watermark and outfit requests that were often ignored. I had good luck with consistency, but I'd still budget a few tokens for re-rolls.

DreamGF allows adult content. The terms describe the site as meant for people aged 18 or over, confirmed by self-declaration, with no ID check described. The official pages don't split the content level by plan, so I can't tell you what the free trial unlocks and what a membership does.

Other media, per the official pricing policy: voice calls at 7 tokens a minute, voice messages at 3 tokens, and a new companion at 20 tokens. There's also an AI Videos section on the site, but its cost and plan aren't stated officially, so I'd leave it alone until they are.

My view: if you want one character whose face stays the same in every picture, DreamGF earned my respect. That consistency is what makes a made-up partner feel like a person rather than a slot machine. Next to the others on this page, that's a friendly start. Candy AI's 1-Month Plan is €13.99, Nomi AI's Standard Plan Monthly is $15.99, and OurDream AI's Standard Monthly is $19.99. On day one, DreamGF is the cheapest of those.

The catch is the word "intro". Every membership shows a Recurring Cost after the first payment if you don't cancel, and those renewal amounts aren't in the record. So $12.99 is what you pay once. What you pay in month two is a figure to read at checkout.

My opinion: one month is worth paying for the images alone. I just wouldn't let a discount on a year talk me into committing to chat I haven't judged yet.

Quick token math on a membership: 100 tokens a month buys 10 images at 10 tokens each, or 14 minutes of voice calls at 7 a minute, or 5 new companions at 20 each. Text chat costs 0 tokens, so the chat is never metered. Extra tokens are sold to members only, from $2.99 up to $179.99, and each purchase is one-off, not recurring.

A paid tester elsewhere reports lower in-app token costs than the official policy. Sources differ, so I'm using the official numbers.

The plan I'd buy is the one I bought: a single monthly membership. It's enough to build a character and fill a gallery of her. I'd skip the annual plan, because the refund rule is discretionary and a year of greeting-card chat is a long year.

Before paying for any of them, I'd line up these points:

• The recurring price once the intro offer ends
• What an image, a voice minute and a new character cost in tokens
• Whether text chat uses tokens at all
• The refund rule, in writing
• Whether the ready-made characters assume one kind of user

DreamGF wins on the third point: text costs nothing on a membership. It stumbles on the fourth, since refunds are at the company's discretion. And the last point is personal for me after my own months on it, so I'd check the character gallery of any app before paying.

My lean: pictures first means DreamGF, conversation first means one of the talkers.

My one paid month was in late 2023, and I stopped in December 2023, after three months with the app in total. Since the cancel steps aren't documented officially today, here's what I'd do if I were paying now.

Before you pay, look for the cancel option in your account and take a screenshot of where it is. Note the date of your first payment and have your phone remind you a few days early. If you can't find a cancel option, contact support before you're charged, not after.

Refunds are discretionary. The terms say that if you're not satisfied, you should contact the support team, and refunds may be granted at the company's discretion. That's not a promise of anything. I'd treat every payment as final and plan around that.

Token purchases are a separate matter. The pricing policy says they are one-off single transactions and not recurring, so they won't renew on their own. They also won't come back if you leave, so buy small.

Today, the record doesn't hold a statement descriptor for DreamGF, so I can't tell you what the line reads now. My advice: after your first payment, check your statement and write the name down next to the app, so a future you isn't puzzled for twenty minutes too. Card is the only payment method on file.

On training, the policy is silent on using chats for model training. What it does state is that data gets processed for analyzing and statistical purposes, as needed to improve the services. "Improve" is broad, and I'd assume it could include your conversations.

DreamAI SRL is a registered Romanian company, with a trade registry number in Bucharest, and the app launched in 2023. That's a real paper trail, which I like. Three years is still a short record, though, so I wouldn't store anything precious there.

My practical advice: keep your real name, workplace and address out of the chat, and don't upload photos of yourself. A secondary email address is a good idea too.

The plan I'd buy is the Monthly Membership at the $12.99 intro price, used mainly for images. That's the plan I paid for in 2023, and the images were what earned it. I would not buy a year of greeting-card chat.

What bothers me most is the roster. An app that assumes every user is a man tells a lot of us we're guests. The builder lets you work around it, but you shouldn't have to.

Skip DreamGF if conversation, a clear cancel path or a guaranteed refund is what you need.

None of these will promise you forty matching pictures of an archer, and I won't pretend they will. But each tells you more about the deal before you pay, and several lean harder on conversation than DreamGF ever did in my months on it.
