AI character voice apps you can actually call

My short answer on character voice
Eleven of the twelve apps on this page list voice calls, and SpicyChat offers spoken replies instead, so the real question is how good the voice is, what a call costs, and what you can start for free. My top three are SpicyChat for voiced replies on a huge character library, Nomi AI for unlimited voice calls on its paid plans, and Candy AI for a voice reviews call expressive. OurDream AI is a strong pick too: you build the character, then call them, and Deluxe spells out 100 minutes of voice calls.
Soulkyn includes voice on its Deluxe plan alongside images and group chat, and Character AI pairs voice calls with free unlimited messaging.
My honest caveat: voice quality is the part official pages can't prove, and reviews are mixed on nearly every app here, from "top-tier and expressive" to flat. I pass on what's reported and give my opinion on it, nothing more. If what you want is a relaxed content policy rather than a voice, my uncensored AI rankings are a better starting point.

How I ranked these voice apps
For a voice list, the order weighs one fact above the rest: does the app offer voice calls, and on which plan? After that come the facts that make a call worth having. Memory, because a voice that forgets what you said an hour ago breaks the spell. Custom characters, since you'll want to shape the voice you're talking to. Then images and a companion focus, which round out the feeling of talking to someone.
The practical layer follows. The free start: can you hear the character before paying, and is the allowance published? Backyard AI, for example, puts voice calls in its free tier. Then the price of the first plan that includes calls, and whether calls also draw on coins, diamonds or credits. Then the content level, and last the fine print on refunds and cancelling.
What I can't score from official pages is how natural each voice sounds. Where other review sites describe it, I say so and react to it. The full list of criteria is on the page about how every app on this site gets checked.
18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.
The eight full entries below cover what each app is, why it's on a voice list, the free start, the plan I'd pay for, the catch and who should skip it.
Dippy AI, Talkie AI, Linky AI and PepHop AI sit in the tables. If you want an anime AI character voice, I'd point you to PepHop AI, where the voice is reported as anime-style. For the most expressive voice, read the Candy AI entry, where voice and call audio are described as top-tier.
Dippy AI is worth a look for a free tier its App Store text calls unlimited. For more drawn-style characters, my anime AI chat list goes deeper.
The first 3 spots are my top picks, and their scores include an author bonus you can see in each review.
SpicyChat: voiced replies on the top plan, no live calls
SpicyChat 8.4/10
Voiced replies, huge library
- Freemium
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at $5/mo
SpicyChat, from NextDay AI Incorporated in Montreal, is a web roleplay app with a huge community character library and a builder for your own characters. On a voice list I have to be straight about the limit first: no plan lists live two-way calls. What it offers is spoken replies, "Hear Your AI Reply With Voice", through text-to-speech on Im All In, and a 2025 recap mentions better voice picking and a narration switch.
That makes the voice expensive to reach. Im All In costs $29.95 a month, or $25.00 a month billed yearly, and also brings 32K context, a priority queue, the advanced models and up to 100 personas. Everything below it is text: the free plan has unlimited text chat with ads and possible queues, and Get a Taste at $5.95 adds a memory manager and removes the queue, but neither speaks.
Where it earns a place is the characters. With a library this large, you're likely to find a voice-worthy character already written, and hearing replies read out suits slow, story-driven roleplay more than a phone-style chat. Refunds are exceptional once the account is used.
Skip it if you want to call a character and talk back. For what each tier adds, see my SpicyChat review.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $5.00 monthly (Get a Taste)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web
Nomi AI: unlimited voice calls once you pay, custom voices included
Nomi AI 8.3/10
Unlimited calls on paid plans
- Freemium: 50 msgs daily
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at $8.33/mo
Nomi AI is a companion app from Glimpse.ai, Inc., on the web, iOS and Android, and on a voice list its appeal is simple: once you pay, calls aren't metered. Standard plans include voice calls, and Nomi's in-house voices and Custom Voices have unlimited use. Voices from the ElevenLabs integration are the exception, since they depend on your own ElevenLabs plan. Credits don't meter the native or custom voices either.
The caller on the other end also remembers you. Memory is Nomi's headline feature, and you design each Nomi yourself, so the voice belongs to a character you shaped. Standard costs $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year, which works out at $8.33 monthly.
The free plan is a real one, 50 messages a day with no ads, but voice isn't part of it, so you can't hear her before paying. The bigger catch is speed: one outside review reports waiting 15 to 20 seconds between your message and the spoken reply, which makes a call feel more like voice notes. Refunds aren't given for dissatisfaction or unused time.
Skip it if you need quick back-and-forth on a call. For the voices and memory in detail, see my Nomi AI review.
- Starting free: Free tier, 50 free messages daily
- Lowest price: $8.33 monthly (Standard Plan Yearly)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web, ios, android
Candy AI: an expressive voice, paid by the minute in tokens
Candy AI 8.2/10
Expressive calls on tokens
- Freemium
- NSFW with a paid plan
- Remembers past chats
starts at €3.99/mo
Candy AI is a web companion app from EverAI Limited in Malta, and it's the one on this page whose voice gets the warmest reviews: voice and call audio are described as top-tier and expressive, and async voice notes are said to arrive reliably. The homepage talks about voice notes and voice conversations, and you choose her voice in the character builder.
Calls run on tokens, at 3 tokens a minute according to outside sources. Every plan includes 100 tokens a month, so a month's allowance covers about 33 minutes of calling if you spend it on nothing else. Plans cost €13.99 for one month, €26.97 for three or €47.88 for a year, €3.99 a month, and token packs are reported from 100 tokens for $9.99.
Not every report is glowing. One reviewer found calls on Premium awkward, with 1 to 2 seconds of dead air while each answer processed. The free start is up to 5 messages in total, so you won't hear much before paying, and outside the EU and UK refunds close 24 hours after payment.
Skip it if you want long nightly calls without watching a token balance. The token math is in my Candy AI review.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: €3.99 monthly (12-Month Plan)
- Allowed: mature chat, paid plans
- Runs on: web
OurDream AI: design the character, then pick up the call
OurDream AI 6.8/10
Calls with a character you design
- Freemium
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at $9.99/mo
OurDream AI is a roleplay and companion app on the web from Dream Studio USA, Inc. It ranks high on my voice list because it pairs voice calls with the rest of what makes a call feel personal: custom characters, memory, group chat, and paid images and video. An AI character phone call lands better when you've shaped the character yourself, and OurDream AI lets you do that. Adult content is allowed.
Getting in is free, but talking isn't really. You get 55 Dreamcoins, and each message costs 1 Dreamcoin. I'd use that to build the character and see if you like the writing before thinking about calls.
For voice, the plan that spells out call time is Deluxe, with 100 minutes of voice calls, 5,000 dreamcoins a month, 3x chat memory, and unlimited messages and audio. Deluxe Annual is $359.88, which is $29.99 a month, against $59.99 month to month. That's a lot, and I'd only buy it if calls are the main event. Standard Annual at $119.88 is the cheaper way in, though its listing doesn't mention call minutes.
Here's my worry. Other reviewers report voice calls draining coins fast, including images generated during a call that weren't requested, and gave calls 3.6/5, mostly because of the coin meter. A 14-day Quality Guarantee lets you contact support after buying.
Skip it on a tight budget. For a voice that's rated highly for less, compare my Candy AI review.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $9.99 monthly (Standard Annual)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web
Soulkyn: voice included on one premium plan
Soulkyn 6.8/10
Voice bundled with images
- Freemium
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at €11.99/mo
Soulkyn is a web app from Cube Digital Media Ltd. that spans a character hub, companion chat, roleplay, and image and video generation. It makes my voice list because voice is included on its Deluxe plan, next to unlimited chat on the 70B model and unlimited images. No per-minute call meter is mentioned there, which I like.
You can also make your own characters and run group chats, and adult content is allowed by its policy.
The free start is vague. The official FAQ says free accounts exist but are limited, and no exact limit is published, so I can't tell you whether free includes voice. The confirmed plan is Deluxe.
Just Chatting at €11.99 and Premium at €24.99 are reported by third-party reviews but not confirmed on the official pricing page, and I wouldn't assume either one includes voice.
The catch is the voice itself. Reviews disagree: one calls it flat and monotone, another says it was decent. That split makes Deluxe a gamble if voice is your main reason to pay. Memory is said to hold a scene within a session but not across weeks, and video is pay-per-use in Souls even on Deluxe.
Who should skip it: anyone who needs a clear free trial of the voice, or a budget below Deluxe. For more apps with an open content level, see my NSFW AI chat rankings.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: €11.99 monthly (Just Chatting)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web
Character AI: voice calls plus free unlimited messaging
Character AI 6.6/10
Free chat with voice calls
- Freemium
starts at $4.99/mo
Character AI, from Character Technologies, Inc., runs a big hub of characters to chat and roleplay with, on web, iOS and Android. It's on this list for voice calls on top of a free start I'd call generous: the c.ai+ FAQ promises that messaging stays free and unlimited for everyone, with ads and a slow mode at busy times. You can create your own characters and chat in groups too.
Paid plans are cheap. (c.ai) lite costs $4.99 monthly for fewer ads and 30 memory pins, and c.ai+ runs $9.99 monthly or $94.99 yearly, $7.92 a month, with no ads, no slow mode and the highest daily limits. For a voice-first fan, I'd move to c.ai+ only once slow mode starts getting in the way.
On voice quality, reviews are split: a few voices impress, while others come across as a flat, bored audiobook narrator, and reviewers mention lag and an emotional tone that misses. I'd treat voice here as a bonus, not the reason to join. Character AI does not allow adult content, so it stays SFW.
One reviewer also had cards repeatedly declined at c.ai+ checkout, and the terms treat payments as non-refundable unless the law says otherwise.
Who should skip it: anyone who wants romance beyond SFW, or a reliably warm voice. If a flirtier companion is the goal, my AI girlfriend rankings lean that way.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $4.99 monthly ((c.ai) lite)
- Allowed: unconfirmed
- Runs on: web, ios, android
Backyard AI: the one with voice calls on the free tier
Backyard AI 6.9/10
Free voice calls
- Freemium
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at $12/mo
Backyard AI, made by Ahoy Labs, Inc., hosts characters for roleplay and companion chat, and it runs on web, iOS and Android. It's here for one reason that matters a lot on a voice list: its plans page includes voice calls in the free tier. That makes it my pick for a free AI character voice, full stop. Adult content is allowed.
The free tier gives 300 messages a week, not a day, on 1 included model with a 16,384-token context, plus group chats, unlimited lorebooks and advanced model samplers. No credit card is required. I like that a lot: you can hear the character before paying anything.
If you pay, Standard at $12 a month gives unlimited messages with every Standard model, 6 listed at 8B-12B, still with voice calls and group chats. Pro at $35 adds larger models and up to 100k tokens of context, which I'd only buy for very long stories.
The catches are practical. Characters come from a user-made Hub, so quality varies, and one reviewer hit a character that kept returning blank replies. There are no images or video, so this is voice and text only.
No refund policy is stated in the Terms or on the plans page, and a cancelled plan runs until the paid term is over.
Who should skip it: anyone who wants pictures with their calls. To see how Backyard AI places in other categories, my full rankings have it.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $12.00 monthly (Standard)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web, ios, android
Uncensy: voice, images and video on one low-cost plan
Uncensy 6.4/10
Voice and video on a budget
- Freemium: 40 msgs daily
- NSFW with a paid plan
- Remembers past chats
starts at $7.99/mo
Uncensy is a web app from AVERIQ LTD that covers a lot at once: companion chat, roleplay, a character hub, a character marketplace, and image and video generation. On a voice list, it earns its place because voice calls come bundled with everything else on a low first plan. It also has the kind of free start I like to see: 40 messages a day, 1 companion slot and a one-time welcome gift of 40 diamonds, with no credit card required.
The catch on the free side is how voice gets paid. On Free, images, voice and video are paid with diamonds, at higher rates than on Blaze. So the welcome diamonds give you a taste of the voice, not a habit. I'd spend them on a short call rather than pictures, since the voice is why you're here.
The plan I'd buy is Spark at $7.99 a month: unlimited chat, 5 companion slots and 50 diamonds a month, with NSFW, images, video and voice included. Blaze at $14.99 doubles the slots to 10, gives 150 diamonds a month and the lowest diamond rates, plus priority support. If calls become a nightly thing, Blaze's lower rates may pay off, though a per-call cost isn't published, so I can't do the math for you.
Adult content on Uncensy is paid only, so the free tier stays tamer. Reviews praise the visuals: image quality is described as very high and videos as close to real footage. In the January 2026 version, one reviewer had to build a companion first before the app let them talk to the ready-made characters, a small annoyance if you just want to browse.
Now the money rules. Fees don't come back unless a law requires a refund, and unused credits may be forfeited when the account ends. The plans page promises "Cancel anytime, no lock-in", and plans live under the Subscription tab in My Profile, but no step-by-step cancel article is published. Promo prices rebill at the regular price after, so note the date.
Who should skip it: anyone who wants a published voice price per minute. For a text-first free alternative, my SpicyChat review is worth a look.
- Starting free: Free tier, 40 free messages daily
- Lowest price: $7.99 monthly (Spark)
- Allowed: mature chat, paid plans
- Runs on: web
What voice calls really cost
The pricing table below shows every plan, but voice rarely shows up as a line item, so here's how I'd read it. Some apps bundle voice into one plan: Soulkyn's Deluxe includes voice, Uncensy's Spark lists voice at $7.99, and Backyard AI's Standard at $12 keeps voice calls. Others meter it: OurDream AI's Deluxe spells out 100 minutes of voice calls, and Uncensy charges diamonds for voice on Free.
My advice: if calls are the point, pick a plan that names voice, not one that leaves it to coins. And budget for the month you'll actually use, not the one you hope for.

Adult content and voice: what it costs
If you want spicy calls, the content policy decides as much as the price. SpicyChat, Nomi AI, OurDream AI, Soulkyn and Backyard AI allow adult content without tying it to one plan. Uncensy, PepHop AI and Candy AI keep it on paid plans only. Linky AI has a soft policy, and Character AI and Talkie AI don't allow adult content.
Dippy AI's policy isn't in my facts, though one review says its chats stayed suggestive rather than graphic.
The cheapest paid gate is PepHop AI's Lite: $4.99 monthly, or $2.99 a month if billed yearly, with 2,000 messages a month and uncensored chat. Uncensy's Spark at $7.99 is the cheapest to list NSFW next to voice, images and video. Candy AI's 1-Month Plan is €13.99, and the 12-Month Plan brings it down to €3.99 a month.
Free routes exist too, if you accept limits. Backyard AI gives 300 messages a week with voice calls included, and adult content is allowed. OurDream AI's 55 Dreamcoins cover a short look.
My take: for voice on the cheap, Backyard AI free, then Standard at $12. For voice plus pictures, Uncensy's Spark. For the best-rated voice in these facts, Candy AI, where voice and call audio are described as top-tier and expressive.
If you mostly want text, CrushOn AI is another option, and my CrushOn AI review breaks down its plans.
The apps side by side below show voice calls, memory, images and custom characters for all twelve, so you can match a voice app to the rest of what you need.

OurDream AI or Soulkyn: which voice to pick
Both are premium picks, and both allow adult content. OurDream AI is the one if you want to design the character in detail and then call them, with 100 minutes of voice calls on Deluxe and a 14-day Quality Guarantee window. Its weak spot is the coin meter.
Soulkyn is the one if you'd rather have voice bundled into one plan with unlimited images and group chat. Its weak spots are a vague free tier and mixed reports on the voice itself.
If neither price works for you yet, start with voice that costs nothing: Backyard AI's free tier includes calls, and my free AI chat rankings list more ways in.
Which suits you: OurDream AI or Soulkyn?
Go with OurDream AI if
6.8/10, starts at $9.99/mo
- You want to design the character you call
- You want call minutes spelled out: 100 on Deluxe
- You like a 14-day Quality Guarantee window
or
Go with Soulkyn if
6.8/10, starts at €11.99/mo
- You want voice included on one plan, with no call meter listed
- You also want unlimited images and group chat
- You're fine paying for Deluxe without a clear free trial
Privacy: what happens to your calls and chats
Voice feels more personal than text, so I think it's worth knowing which company runs the app you talk to. Before you pay for any of these apps, here's what I'd weigh:
- Training: PepHop AI's Lite plan states chats are not used for training. It's the only app here where my facts say so, and I like it.
- Who runs it: most name a company, like AVERIQ LTD for Uncensy or Ahoy Labs, Inc. for Backyard AI. Linky AI's Terms name only "Linky", while its Google Play developer is Skywork AI Pte. Ltd.
- Refunds: Backyard AI states no refund policy, Talkie AI says fees are non-refundable, and Linky AI sends refund requests to Apple or Google.
- What you say: on any app, leave your real name, your address and where you work out of calls and chats.
Statement names are in my facts for only a few of these. OurDream AI bills as DREAM STUDIO LLC AL, Candy AI as EverAI and SpicyChat as NDAI.CHAT, so none of the three spells out a companion app, while Nomi AI shows NOMI.AI. If a discreet bank line matters to you, look at the app's billing page before you pay.
The compact facts behind this list don't cover how voice recordings are stored or deleted, so I won't guess. For a fuller look at one policy, my OurDream AI review walks through what it says about your chats.
My rule: pay by a method you're happy to see on a statement, and cancel through the store or account page you paid through, before the renewal.
Common questions
What is the best AI character voice app?
SpicyChat leads my list for its huge character library with voiced replies on Im All In, though it has no live calls. Nomi AI follows with unlimited use of its own voices on paid plans, then Candy AI for voice reviewers call expressive. OurDream AI is a strong pick for calls with a character you design, with 100 minutes of voice calls on Deluxe.
Can I call an AI character for free?
Backyard AI is the clearest yes: its free tier includes voice calls, with 300 messages a week and no credit card required. Uncensy's free tier lets you pay for voice with diamonds, starting from a one-time welcome gift of 40. Dippy AI lists voice calls and a free tier its App Store text calls unlimited, though the facts don't say whether free includes calls.
Can I have a video call with an AI character?
Not from what these twelve apps publish in my facts. All but SpicyChat list voice calls, and several generate video, such as OurDream AI, Uncensy and Talkie AI, but none describes live video calls. If that's what you want, look for it named on an app's own feature page before paying.
Which app has an anime-style voice?
PepHop AI is the one where reviews describe the voice as anime-style, and voice calls are said to make its chats more engaging. Its cheapest plan, PepHop Lite, is $4.99 a month. The catch is memory, reported to degrade after roughly 20 messages even on paid tiers, and new users get only a limited number of free messages.
Which app has the most natural voice?
Official pages can't prove this, so I lean on reviews. Candy AI's voice and call audio are described as top-tier and expressive. Character AI and Talkie AI get mixed reports, with some voices good and others stiff. Soulkyn's voice is called flat by one reviewer and decent by another. OurDream AI's calls were rated 3.6/5, held back by the coin meter.
Can I get a refund on a voice app?
Rarely. Character AI only refunds where a law forces it, Talkie AI says fees are non-refundable, and PepHop AI generally does not offer refunds. Uncensy keeps fees too, unless the law requires otherwise. OurDream AI's 14-day Quality Guarantee is the friendliest option, decided case by case.
