What is Linky AI, and who is it for?

I spent three weeks in July 2025 with Linky AI on Android, all of it on the free app. Linky AI is a free, ad-supported character app where you chat with AI characters, call them, build your own and share them with its community. It launched in 2023. Google Play names Skywork AI Pte.

Ltd. of Singapore as the developer, while the Terms and Privacy Policy only say "Linky". It runs on the web and Android.

What the official app description promises:

  • Characters that learn your personality and preferences as you talk
  • Voice and text, calls included
  • Your own characters, with a custom voice, personality and backstory
  • Avatars in 2D, Live2D, pixel or 3D styles, plus collectible character cards

My take: Linky is a character playground first and a romance app a distant second. The art is genuinely gorgeous, and building characters is part of the free app, in four styles rather than one default look. I like that range, because it says the app wasn't drawn around a single kind of user.

What I don't like is how little Linky publishes about limits and money. There's no official price list and no official free message count. If you want coin costs and plans spelled out, my OurDream AI review with its coin breakdown is a tidier read.

Getting started on Linky AI for free

The app is free, and it pays for that with ads and in-app purchases; Google Play marks it "Contains ads". Linky doesn't publish its free limits. Secondary sources put the allowance at about 20-30 messages a day, so read that as a rough guide, not a promise.

Other reviewers report that on the free tier a full-screen ad pops up after almost every reply, and some users say the ads freeze the app. That's the real price of free here. A short Linky AI chat broken up by ads is survivable. A long scene chopped up after every reply is not.

There's also a currency: coins. The Terms say coins have no real-world value, can't be swapped for money and aren't paid back when an account closes. What a coin buys isn't published, so I'd spend nothing on coins until the free app has earned it.

My three weeks cost me $0, and I'd start you the same way. The Linky AI at a glance box right after this has the basics in one place.

How I check the apps

Linky AI's art, its digital twin and the memory question

The first thing I'd tell a friend is that the art is genuinely gorgeous. My feed looked like a rotating gallery show, and I scrolled it in bed like a glossy magazine I had no intention of buying at $17 a month. If you pick apps with your eyes, Linky wins that round easily.

Then there's the digital twin, which builds a bot from how you text. Mine was beautifully cursed. It emerged with my emoji habits and my reading obsessions, basically me with better hair: the queer woman's version of a mirror kiss. It's the most original feature I met on Linky, and it's worth one evening just to see yourself reflected back.

It also showed me the catch. The twin knew me too well to be an escape. At twenty-eight I wanted a stranger, not a portrait, and my library job involves quite enough staring at records of me. If you come to a companion app to be somebody else for an hour, build a character from scratch instead.

Memory is where the outside reports turn cool. The Play description says characters "learn with each conversation", but nothing official says how well. Other reviewers report weak short-term memory, with characters losing details inside one conversation, a recurring bug that made them call people "Alex", free-tier memory fading after about 12 exchanges, and misgendering.

The misgendering worries me most: an app that lets you build anyone should get your name and pronouns right.

Voice calls are listed too, and one reviewer says calls unlock at bonding level 4 on Premium. For how memory and voice count toward a score, see my page on how I check the apps and weigh each part.

18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.

How far does Linky AI's content go?

Linky AI's content policy is soft, and my three weeks matched that exactly: suggestive-only. In plain words, it sits on the flirty side, not among apps built for fully explicit text chat. Linky doesn't publish a content setting I can name, so I can't point you to a switch that changes the level, and I won't invent one.

I'll be honest, the mild level didn't bother me as much as the familiarity did. Between a twin that mirrored my texting and a policy that stays suggestive, Linky felt more like a sketchbook than a getaway. If you want romance with some heat, this isn't the place to look.

The bigger problem is consistency. One review site says filtering shifts between updates, and that Premium sometimes filters more than Free. If that holds, paying to get more freedom could backfire, which is the oddest detail on file for this app. It's the main reason I'd never upgrade for content reasons alone.

Google Play rates the app Mature 17+. The Terms set 17 as the service minimum and reserve paid subscriptions and social features for people 18 and over. No verification method is described. I'd like to see one, but at least the rules are written down.

Keep visual expectations in their lane, too. The pictures are character avatars and three kinds of collectible cards, lovely ones, but no general image generator is described.

Where Linky stands out is the builder: a voice, a personality, a backstory, four art styles and a share button. The description says nothing about gender options, so I can't tell you how open it is there. To compare content levels across apps in one place, my complete list of app reviews puts each app's policy in the same spot.

Who Linky AI suits

Great for

  • People who choose apps for gorgeous character art
  • Anyone who likes building a character with a custom voice and backstory
  • Curious readers who want to meet a digital twin of their texting style
  • Readers happy with light, suggestive romance

Skip if

  • Anyone who can't stand an ad after almost every reply
  • People who want a companion with reliable memory
  • Readers who want an escape rather than a mirror
  • Anyone who needs an official price list before paying

What Linky AI Premium costs next to rivals

The only Premium price on record is $17 a month, and it dates from July 2025, the same month I was scrolling past it. Linky has no public price list, so it's the best number available, not an official one, and it may have moved since.

Here's how that sits against apps that publish their prices. GirlfriendGPT asks $15.00 for Premium, Nomi AI $15.99 for its Standard Plan Monthly, OurDream AI $19.99 for Standard Monthly and Candy AI €13.99 for a month. Linky lands in the middle of that pack. On the sticker alone, it isn't expensive, and it isn't a bargain either.

The difference is what you know you're buying. Those rivals spell out the contents: unlimited messages, image credits, coins, voice. For Linky, nothing official says what Premium adds, including whether it removes the ads. The Terms mention monthly, quarterly and annual renewals, yet no price for a longer plan is on record.

Should you pay for Linky AI Premium?

My answer is no, not until Linky tells you what the money buys. I'd happily pay $17 for a clear list of benefits, and I never saw a reason to in my three weeks. Add the report that Premium sometimes filters more than Free, and the upgrade looks like a coin toss rather than a purchase.

Voice is the one thing that might tip it. If calls really unlock at bonding level 4 on Premium, they aren't there on day one even after you pay, so I wouldn't subscribe for voice alone.

Stay free while the ads are bearable, then decide. If you do pay, take the monthly plan so you can walk away after one bill, and skip coins until someone publishes what they buy. If characters matter more to you than romance, my roundup of the best AI chat character apps lists options with plans you can read first.

Linky AI earned 4.8/10 in my hands-on review. I have no referral deal here, so the link is a normal one. Go to the official Linky AI site

The closest alternative I would suggest

The card above links to the official Linky AI website and sets a partner app beside it. Here's my quick sort between the two:

  • Stay with Linky AI if a free app with gorgeous art is enough for you.
  • Pick the partner if you want plan contents and prices published before you pay.
  • Stay with Linky AI if designing characters in several art styles is the fun part.
  • Pick the partner if you want spicier content than suggestive.

My opinion: Linky wins on the cost of entry, because the app itself is free. It loses on clarity, memory and content range. For contrast, Candy AI prints what its plans include, such as unlimited text messages and image generation for €13.99 on the 1-Month Plan.

The catch there is a free start of about 5 messages in total, so you pay sooner. My Candy AI review with its plan details covers that trade.

I'd open Linky's free app first either way. It costs nothing, and within a week you'll know whether the ads, the memory and the mild content level are problems for you.

The good and bad of Linky AI

What went well

  • Free app with no price to get in
  • Genuinely gorgeous character art in 2D, Live2D, pixel and 3D
  • Build your own characters with a custom voice, personality and backstory
  • A digital twin that builds a bot from how you text
  • Voice calls as well as text chat

What fell short

  • Ads after nearly every reply on the free tier, per other review sites
  • Memory complaints, including misgendering and a name bug
  • No official price list, and Premium contents are not published
  • Content stays suggestive, and filtering is reported to shift between updates

How do you cancel Linky AI?

I never subscribed, so I had no plan to cancel. If you do, cancelling runs through the store you paid with. According to the Terms, you can cancel whenever you like using the matching option inside the App Store or Google Play. No web cancel page is on record, so if you subscribed on your phone, that's where you go.

Renewal is automatic, on whatever period you chose. Per the Terms, a subscription rolls over by itself, one monthly, quarterly or annual period after another. What happens to your access on the day you cancel isn't stated, so cancel as soon as you decide rather than on the last evening.

Refunds are handed off entirely. The Terms say you must contact Apple or Google, and that Linky "will have no liability to you whatsoever for any refunds". I don't love that wording. Plenty of store-sold apps do the same, but it means Linky itself won't help you, and you depend on the store's own rules.

Coins are a separate matter. Unused coins get no money or other compensation when an account is closed, so use them up before you go, or write them off.

My plan for anyone tempted by Premium: take a monthly subscription, put a reminder on your phone for a few days ahead of renewal, and cancel through the store if the ads or the memory still bother you. For an app whose cancel path and refund rule are written out in its own FAQ, my SpicyChat review and its billing notes is a good next read. The billing note below keeps Linky's official wording in one box.

What will show on your bank statement?

Linky's billing name isn't on record, so I can't tell you what the line on your statement will say. Payment goes through Google Play or the Apple App Store, which means the store takes your money and handles refund requests. If you share a card or a banking app, keep that open question in mind before you subscribe.

Is your data safe with Linky AI?

The privacy language is vague in ways I don't like. The Privacy Policy says data stays for as long as proper business needs require it and gets deleted once those needs are gone. That gives no timeline at all.

Deleting your account works by email to [email protected], and the policy warns that once you send the request, you can no longer use Linky. There's no delete button on record, so plan on a support email.

On training, the policy says chat data is handled just for security, such as automatically screening for illegal content, and model training isn't mentioned either way. The Terms, though, let Linky use your User Content for anything connected to Linky. That clause is wide, and it weighs heavier on this app, because the digital twin is built from how you text: I'd think twice before feeding it anything you wouldn't want reused.

Is Linky AI legit? The developer is named on Google Play, it's based in Singapore, and the app has been around since 2023. I'd call it a real company with loose privacy language, not a scam.

My advice: skip your real name, your workplace and anything you'd hate to see quoted, and use a separate email. If privacy and a written content policy both matter to you, my list of uncensored AI apps with their policies compares how others word theirs.

Final word on Linky AI

Final score

4.8/10

Uneven

Linky is a gorgeous gallery with a cursed digital-twin trick, but suggestive-only content, ads and weak memory kept me scrolling rather than paying.

Used hands-on with the free plan

  • The digital twin built from how I text came out as me with better hair, which is not an escape.
  • Reviewers report forgetting inside a single chat and a bug that renamed users Alex.
  • Voice, personality, backstory and art style are all adjustable, and the twin feature is uniquely strange.
  • The art is genuinely gorgeous, and calls unlock once a bond builds on Premium.
  • Premium was $17 a month, and the free tier shows ads after nearly every reply.
  • Terms let the company use your content for any Linky purpose, and deletion goes through an email request.
  • Reviewers report ads freezing the app and filters that shift between updates.

Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria, and every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps

My verdict: worth it as a free art-and-character app for light, suggestive roleplay, and a pass if you need a companion with real memory or a plan you can read before paying.

The plan I'd buy is none, at first. I stayed free for three weeks and would again; take Premium monthly at $17 only if the ads are the one thing stopping you, knowing its benefits aren't published.

What bothers me most is memory, especially the misgendering reports. For an app that invites you to build anyone, getting pronouns wrong is a real miss. And if you want an escape, not a portrait, skip the twin and maybe the app.

The closest alternative I would suggest

If Linky AI isn't the one for you

Linky is a pretty, free place to browse and build characters, but it leaves gaps. If one of these is your dealbreaker, here's where I'd send you:

  • You want memory and a real free allowance: Nomi AI keeps a free plan forever, with 50 daily messages and no ads.
  • You want images in the plan: Candy AI lists image and video generation on its €13.99 1-Month Plan.
  • You want a known billing name: Nomi AI bills as NOMI.AI, and GirlfriendGPT as NDAI.CC.
  • You want a refund cushion: OurDream AI has a 14-day Quality Guarantee, decided request by request.

If a friend asked me, Nomi AI is where I'd point them first. Its free plan doesn't expire and runs without ads, and memory is exactly Linky's weak spot. The catch is 400 characters per free message, fine for chat, tight for long scenes.

For roleplay with a large character library and a stronger content range, my CrushOn AI review is the next one I'd open. Whatever you pick, look at the free start first and the refund rule second. Those two tell you more about how an app treats you than any feature list, and both are easy to find before you spend anything.

Instead of Linky AI

The next three apps I would open, and the reason.

The three cards here are my shortlist for anyone leaving Linky AI or unsure about it. Each fixes a different gap: memory, published plans or images. The price on a card is only the entry point, so open the full review before deciding. Choose by the one Linky flaw that bugs you most.

If it's the ads, go for a free plan without them. If it's the memory, go for the app with the best recall reports. None of them is free in quite the way Linky is, and that's the honest trade: less free chat, clearer rules.

Linky AI questions, answered

Is Linky AI free?

Yes. The app is free, with ads and in-app purchases, and my three weeks on Android in July 2025 cost nothing. Linky doesn't publish its free limits, and secondary sources put them at about 20-30 messages a day.

Other review sites describe a full-screen ad after nearly every reply on the free tier, so free comes with a lot of interruptions.

How much is Linky AI Premium?

The only price on record is $17 a month, from July 2025, listed by a third-party review. Linky has no public price list, so treat that figure with some caution. The Terms mention monthly, quarterly and annual renewals, but no price for the longer plans is on record.

Does Linky AI allow NSFW chat?

Its content policy is soft, and in my use it stayed suggestive-only, flirty rather than fully explicit. There's no named content setting on the official pages. One review site says filtering changes between updates and that Premium sometimes filters more than Free, so I wouldn't pay to unlock content.

What is the Linky AI digital twin?

It's a bot built from how you text. Mine picked up my emoji habits and my reading obsessions, so it felt like talking to myself with better hair. It's a fun one-evening curiosity, but if you want an escape, build a fresh character instead.

How do I cancel Linky AI and get a refund?

Cancel in the App Store or Google Play, where you subscribed. Plans renew automatically. For refunds, the Terms say to contact Apple or Google, and Linky accepts no liability for refunds. Unused coins are not paid back when an account is closed.

Is Linky AI safe?

The developer on Google Play is Skywork AI Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, and the app has run since 2023. The Privacy Policy keeps data as long as business needs require, and the Terms let Linky use your content for any Linky-related purpose. Account deletion is by email to [email protected]. Share as little personal detail as you can.
