Which AI character generator fits you: 13 apps side by side
Prices confirmed on
The short answer: where to build your character
For an all-in-one studio, look at Soulkyn. It's a character hub where you make a character, then give it pictures, video and a voice, all in one place. What gives me pause is the price, so read the entry before you commit.
Moescape AI pairs a character hub with image generation, and new users get 100 Mochi plus 50 free Mochi a day to spend. Character AI's free plan has unlimited messaging, so you can build a character and talk to it for as long as you like, though its content policy keeps things SFW.
Every app here lets you make custom characters, and most add image generation on top. That's what put them on this list. If a looser content policy is what you care about, my guide to uncensored AI apps takes that angle instead.

How I ranked these character builders
Two facts matter most for a character generator: can you make your own characters, and can the app draw them? Apps that do both come first. After that, a character hub to borrow from, roleplay tools and group chat move an app up, because a character you can't put in a scene gets dull fast.
Next comes the free start. Does the app publish what free users get, and is there enough to build a character before paying? Then the price of the plan worth buying, plus the credits or coins that images cost on top. Last comes the fine print: the refund rule and the cancel path.
A consistent AI character generator is the dream, and the records don't let me promise one: reviews of Chub AI, for example, mention a likeness that shifts between pictures. So I don't rank on art quality nobody can verify from official pages. The order weighs these facts from each app's official pages, with outside reviews filling gaps: this is desk research. The full method is on how I check the apps.
18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.
Pick your entry by what you want to make. For a character you can see, hear and watch in short clips, read Soulkyn. If you want an AI character art generator with free daily credits, Moescape AI. For long talks with a character at no cost, Character AI, or Perchance, which needs no account at all.
For deep roleplay with community characters, Chub AI. The other five, HammerAI, Privee AI, Uncensy, Dippy AI and Talkie AI, sit in the tables. Dippy AI deserves a word: reviews call its character creator its strongest part, with backstory and traits set in separate steps. For drawn styles, see my anime AI chat picks.
The first 3 spots are my top picks, and their scores include an author bonus you can see in each review.
SpicyChat: build a character from scratch, chat free, add art later
SpicyChat 8.4/10
Free character building and chat
- Freemium
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at $5/mo
SpicyChat, from NextDay AI Incorporated in Montreal, is a web roleplay and companion app whose policy allows adult content. As a character generator it starts where most people want to start: the official page invites you to design an AI from scratch, choosing its look, personality and backstory, and then to chat with it straight away.
Building costs nothing. The free plan chats without a cap on the Default model, with ads, possible waiting lines, 4K memory and replies up to 180 tokens. What free leaves out is art. Images start at True Supporter, $19.95 a month, which adds unlimited pictures inside chats, 8K context and room for up to 50 personas.
The image generator lists anime or semi-realistic styles and custom prompts. One outside source says True Supporter images work only with certain supported characters, while Im All In at $29.95 covers every character.
That's the catch for a generator list. Other reviewers report that one realistic character looked different in each picture, so I wouldn't count on a steady likeness. The cheapest paid step, Get a Taste at $5.95, removes ads and queues and adds a memory manager, but no images.
Who it suits: people who write a character first and want to talk to it for free. My SpicyChat review lays out each tier.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $5.00 monthly (Get a Taste)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web
Nomi AI: make a character for free, then let memory shape it
Nomi AI 8.3/10
Characters that remember you
- Freemium: 50 msgs daily
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at $8.33/mo
Glimpse.ai, a Baltimore company, makes Nomi AI for web, iOS and Android. Its characters are called Nomis, and making one and chatting with it costs nothing on the free plan. For a character generator, its strength is what happens after you build: the homepage puts long-, medium- and short-term memory at the centre, and reviewers describe a memory that brings things up on its own.
The free plan gives 50 messages a day, up to 400 characters each, plus 2 images a day and no ads. Paid plans let you keep up to 10 Nomis active at once, with extra slots at 100 credits each, and subscribers get 40 image credits a day. An image-to-video tool turns an existing selfie or art picture into a clip of about 5 seconds, for 6 credits in SD or 10 in HD.
The art side has limits. Reviewers say pictures come from a ready-made gallery with no free prompting, and Nomi limits pictures to clothed photos on every tier, even though text chat allows adult content. So Nomi builds a personality better than a portrait.
If you pay, Standard Plan Yearly is $99.99, about $8.33 a month, and payments are not refunded. The details are in my Nomi AI review.
- Starting free: Free tier, 50 free messages daily
- Lowest price: $8.33 monthly (Standard Plan Yearly)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web, ios, android
Candy AI: a detailed looks builder, paid for in tokens
Candy AI 8.2/10
Detailed looks, images and video
- Freemium
- NSFW with a paid plan
- Remembers past chats
starts at €3.99/mo
Candy AI is a web companion and roleplay app from EverAI Limited in Malta. Its builder goes deep on appearance: you pick ethnicity, looks, personality, voice and hobbies, and the paid plans add 18+ image and video generation for the character you made.
The free start is barely a start. The Terms of Service cap free users at 5 messages, and a check on 2026-09-22 found 3-5 messages and 3-5 images in total, no video and no daily refill. Adult content needs a paid plan.
On a paid plan, art runs on tokens. The 1-Month Plan at €13.99 includes unlimited text chat and 100 tokens a month. Outside sources put an image at 2 or 4 tokens depending on the engine, a short video at 12 tokens rising to about 80 for 55 seconds, and a new custom character at 10 tokens. The 12-Month Plan works out to €3.99 a month, billed €47.88 upfront.
Reviewers praise lifelike pictures that keep one look between generations, but report about 1 image in 8 with obvious flaws and no free redo. Outside the EU/UK, refunds must be requested within 24 hours of paying. My Candy AI review covers the token math.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: €3.99 monthly (12-Month Plan)
- Allowed: mature chat, paid plans
- Runs on: web
Soulkyn: characters with pictures, video and a voice
Soulkyn 6.8/10
The all-in-one character builder
- Freemium
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at €11.99/mo
Soulkyn, from Cube Digital Media Ltd., is a character hub that builds in companion chat and roleplay, plus both image and video generation. It earns its place because it ticks every box a character builder needs: custom characters, pictures, video, voice calls, group chat and memory. It also lists an API, which few apps here do. Its policy allows adult content.
The free start is the weak spot. Free accounts exist, but the official FAQ says its ability to offer them is limited, and no exact free limits are published. I'd treat free as a look around, nothing more.
The only plan confirmed on the official pricing page is Deluxe at €49.90 a month: chat on the 70B model with no cap, plus images and voice with no cap, while video is paid per use in Souls. Cheaper tiers, Just Chatting and Premium, are reported by outside reviews but not confirmed officially, so I wouldn't plan around them. That's a lot of money to start with, and I'd only pay it if images are a big part of why you're here.
Reviews say the images are fun, video feels like an occasional paid extra, and the voice sounds flat. Within one session memory keeps a scene together; across weeks it doesn't. The refund policy page couldn't be read, so the refund rule is unknown.
Skip it if you want a cheap start. To weigh it against a companion builder with a cheaper yearly price, read my Candy AI review.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: €11.99 monthly (Just Chatting)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted

Moescape AI: daily free Mochi for character art
Moescape AI 6.2/10
Free daily credits for art
- Freemium
- Remembers past chats
starts at $9.99/mo
Moescape AI comes from MOESCAPE TECHNOLOGY CORP. and combines a character hub, roleplay and image generation on web, iOS and Android. It pairs custom characters with images and video, and it's one of the easiest art builders here to start free. A fresh account starts with 100 Mochi, and every day you can claim 50 more that vanish 24 hours after claiming. Milestones pay out on top of that, up to 1,000 Mochi in any 30-day window.
Here's my hesitation: the paid plans are hard to read. Plus is $9.99 a month, Pro $14.99, Premium $29.99 and Platinum $39.99, but the Mochi each one includes is disputed between sources, and Platinum's 6,250 Mochi comes from a single source. I'd start on Pro, the cheapest plan with unlimited chat on basic models, and top up only if the credits run short.
And they may. Other reviewers report that credits run out fast on images, rerolls and video, so the plan price isn't the whole cost if art is your main use. Those same reviews rate memory as decent, if imperfect, over long roleplay, and find the site busy for newcomers.
Its content policy is soft rather than fully adult, which suits people who want character art more than adult roleplay. Refunds depend on whether you've used the Mochi or benefits. Skip it if adult content is the point; my NSFW AI chat rankings cover that.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $9.99 monthly (Plus)
- Allowed: unconfirmed
- Runs on: web, ios, android
Character AI: free unlimited chat with the characters you make
Character AI 6.6/10
Free unlimited character chat
- Freemium
starts at $4.99/mo
Character AI, from Character Technologies, Inc., is a character hub with companion chat and roleplay on web, iOS and Android. It earns a spot because you can create characters, generate images, take voice calls and run group chats, and its free plan is one of the most open here: you can message without limits on both PipSqueak 2 and PipSqueak 2 Rawr. The trade-off on free is ads, slow mode at busy times and limited daily features.
Paying is cheap. The (c.ai) lite plan costs $4.99 a month to start, and c.ai+ is $9.99, or $94.99 a year, which is $7.92 a month. c.ai+ removes ads and slow mode and gives the best memory, with 30 pins. That's the plan I'd pick, and only once free chat feels too slow.
The catch is twofold. First, the content policy doesn't allow adult content at all, so this is a builder for SFW characters. Second, memory: reviews describe strong recall of buried facts, but also the AI inventing confident extra details and forgetting a promise made ten messages earlier. One reviewer also had cards declined at c.ai+ checkout for three weeks. No refunds are given on payments unless the law says otherwise.
Skip it if you want romance with fewer limits. My AI girlfriend rankings suit that better.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $4.99 monthly ((c.ai) lite)
- Allowed: unconfirmed

Chub AI: community characters for deep roleplay
Chub AI 7.1/10
Community roleplay characters
- Freemium
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at $20/mo
Chub AI is a character hub and roleplay app from Chub AI Inc, on the web, and its policy allows adult content. It's here because it's built around characters: you make your own, borrow from the hub, run group chats and generate images. As an AI story character generator, where a character's voice has to hold through a long plot, it's a strong fit: reviews say it keeps character voice well across many characters.
Chub AI is thin on free use. There's no standing free plan, only one-time trial credits worth a few dozen messages that are sent to new users regularly, plus free self-hosting through Kobold or Ooba for technical users. To me, that doesn't add up to a genuine free tier.
The single plan, Mars, costs $20 a month and includes unlimited access to all Chub models including Soji, unlimited voice and unlimited multimedia generation. One flat price that covers chat, voice and images is something I like.
The catch is quality. Reviews mention dialogue confusion and repetition, including the AI writing both sides of the conversation. The Imagine image tool looks photorealistic but clearly AI-made up close, with an inconsistent likeness, and the voice sounds like an audiobook narrator. Refunds, per outside sources, come only in exceptional cases.
Skip it if you want a free plan to start with. To compare it with every other list on the site, begin at my top AI apps overview.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $20.00 monthly (Mars)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web
Perchance AI Character Chat: free, unlimited and no account
Perchance AI Character Chat 6.7/10
Free with no sign-up
- Freemium: unlimited msgs daily
- Remembers past chats
Perchance AI Character Chat is the odd one out here: a free web tool rather than a subscription app. It combines a character hub, companion chat, roleplay and image generation, and its official page title promises what many people want: online, free, no sign-up, unlimited. That means unlimited messages and images, no account, no credits and no paywall, paid for by ads. According to its privacy policy, the AI tools are intended to remain 100% free.
That's why it earns a place on a character generator list. You can make your own characters, put them in group chats and generate pictures of them, all without paying or signing up. If you want an AI character generator from text, where you describe someone and start chatting, this is the lowest-risk way to try the idea.
My hesitation is about who runs it. The Terms say "We are Perchance.org", and no legal company is named in the records. For a free tool with no account that may matter less, but it does mean there's no named company to hold to account if something goes wrong. I'd share nothing personal in these chats.
Quality is serviceable rather than great. Other reviewers report that memory held well for 30-40 exchanges but lost a plot point about 60 messages back. Memory is editable, which helps, but long chats still drift.
Images work better in a realistic style than an anime one, hands are a weak point, and the base interface looks dated, though community forks improve it.
There are no voice calls, and the records don't state a content policy, so don't assume either way.
Who should skip it: anyone who wants voice, video or a polished app. If you'd rather have unlimited free text chat from a named company, my SpicyChat review is the next place I'd look.
- Starting free: Free tier, unlimited

What these character builders cost
Below you'll find every plan these thirteen apps list, from free to the top tier, each in its own currency. Soulkyn and Candy AI price in euros and the rest in dollars. My advice: separate the chat price from the art price.
Perchance costs nothing at all, Character AI's free plan has unlimited messaging, and HammerAI's free plan gives 600 messages a day. Images are where the bills climb, through Mochi, credits, Souls or diamonds. So if art is why you're here, compare what each plan includes for images before comparing headline prices. Talkie AI's prices and two of Soulkyn's come from outside sources only, so treat them as unconfirmed.

What images and characters really cost
The chat is often cheap. The pictures are what you budget for. The apps here charge for art in three ways, and I think knowing which one you're buying matters more than the plan price.
The first is flat and unlimited. Chub AI's Mars plan at $20 a month includes unlimited multimedia generation, and Soulkyn's Deluxe includes unlimited images, with video paid per use in Souls. Perchance charges nothing at all for unlimited images.
This is the model I'd pick if you plan to make a lot of art, as long as the quality suits you.
The second is credits included with a plan. HammerAI's Starter at $9 a month gives 1,500 credits, which is 150 images or 300 TTS, and Advanced at $18 gives 3,500 credits, or 350 images. Moescape AI's plans come with monthly Mochi, though the exact amounts are disputed between sources, and reviews note that rerolls eat credits too.
The third is diamonds on top. Uncensy's Spark at $7.99 includes 50 diamonds a month, and its free plan pays for images, voice and video with diamonds at higher rates than Blaze. That adds up if you generate often.
Refund rules are strict almost everywhere: HammerAI says all purchases are final, and Character AI gives no refunds beyond what the law demands. For how a big roleplay app outside this list handles credits and refunds, see my CrushOn AI review.
The apps side by side, right after this, shows which apps list images, video, voice and custom characters, so you can cross off any app missing the one thing you need.

Soulkyn or Moescape AI: how I'd choose
These two suit different builders. Soulkyn is the complete studio: custom characters, unlimited images, voice and video in one place, but its only confirmed plan is €49.90 a month and the free limits aren't published. Moescape AI is the cheaper, gentler start, with 100 Mochi for new users and 50 free Mochi a day, then plans from $9.99.
My take: start on Moescape AI's free Mochi and see whether you really make art every day. If you do, and you want voice and video too, Soulkyn's Deluxe plan earns its price. If adult content matters, Soulkyn is the one of these two whose policy allows it. And if spending nothing is the point, my free AI chat picks go further.
Which suits you: Soulkyn or Moescape AI?
Go with Soulkyn if
6.8/10, starts at €11.99/mo
- You want images, voice and video for your characters in one place
- You'd pay €49.90 a month for unlimited images
- You want a policy that allows adult content
or
Go with Moescape AI if
6.2/10, starts at $9.99/mo
- You want to start free with 50 Mochi a day
- You care more about character art than adult roleplay
- You want iOS and Android apps as well as the web
Privacy: what happens to your characters and chats
When you build a character, you often pour a lot of yourself into it: a backstory, the things you like, the way you talk. For most of these apps I can't tell you how long they keep chats or whether they train on them, because the records don't say, and I won't guess at it. Candy AI and Nomi AI are the exceptions: both sets of terms allow your chats to be used to improve their AI. Here is what else is known, app by app.
- Who runs it. Perchance names no legal company at all, only "Perchance.org". Every other app here names one, from Character Technologies, Inc. behind Character AI to Butter Games LLC behind Privee AI.
- Where you pay. Talkie AI plans are changed or cancelled only in the app marketplace where you bought them. HammerAI bills through Gank, where you cancel, pause or modify the plan.
- Refund fallbacks. Dippy AI and Privee AI publish no refund policy of their own; their terms point you to the app store you paid through.
- Leaving. Dippy AI's terms say you can close your account at any time by emailing support.
My advice: give your characters rich backstories, but keep your real name, address and workplace out of them. Use a separate email for character apps, one you don't use for banking or work, and check what the privacy policy says before any personal detail goes into a chat. If you want to see what a full billing, cancel and refund write-up looks like for one app, my OurDream AI review is a good example.
Common questions
What is the best AI character generator in 2026?
SpicyChat is my top pick: you design a character from scratch and chat with it free without a cap, with images once you move up to the $19.95 True Supporter plan. Nomi AI follows for characters that remember you, and Candy AI for a detailed looks builder with paid images and video. For an all-in-one studio, Soulkyn is strong but costs €49.90 a month for Deluxe.
Is there a free AI character generator from photo on this list?
Not that the records show. None of the thirteen apps' official pages describes building a character from an uploaded photo. You create characters by describing them, and apps like Perchance, Moescape AI and HammerAI then generate images. If a photo-based builder is essential to you, read each app's own help pages before paying.
Which app works best as an AI character video generator?
Soulkyn lists video generation, paid per use in Souls on its Deluxe plan, and reviews describe it as an occasional paid extra rather than the main event. Uncensy includes video on its Spark plan at $7.99 a month, and one review describes its videos as close to real footage. Moescape AI lists video too, but reviews say credits run out fast on it.
Can I use these as an AI DnD character generator or for fantasy characters?
None is built for tabletop games, but several work well as an AI fantasy character generator. Chub AI and HammerAI are character hubs with roleplay and group chat, and HammerAI adds lorebooks on its Starter plan, which help keep a world's details straight. For AI DnD character art, Perchance generates unlimited images for free, though hands are a known weak spot.
Can any of these work as an AI 3D character generator?
Not from what the records show. These thirteen apps make chat characters with images and, on some, video. None of their official pages mentions 3D models. If 3D is what you need, a dedicated 3D tool will serve you better than a companion app, and these apps are best for talking to the character once it exists.
How do I create my own AI character for free?
The easiest route is Perchance AI Character Chat: no account, no credits, unlimited messages and images. Character AI's free plan gives unlimited messaging with ads and slow mode at busy times, and HammerAI's free plan gives 600 messages a day on cloud models, plus unlimited local chat in its desktop app. Uncensy's free plan has 1 companion slot and 40 messages a day with no credit card required.
Can I get a refund if the app isn't what I wanted?
Rarely. HammerAI says all purchases are final, Character AI and Talkie AI call payments non-refundable, and Chub AI is reported to refund only in exceptional cases. Moescape AI ties refunds to whether you've used the Mochi or benefits. That's why I'd start on a free plan and pay monthly before paying yearly.
