Finding a Replika alternative: 10 apps compared

If you'd rather stay SFW, five apps here keep a SFW content policy and stay closest to plain companion chat. Character AI is a strong pick if you want free, unlimited chat and a character hub to browse, Talkie AI if you want voice calls with your characters, and Rubii if you want to see a character as well as talk to them.

If you want a Replika ERP alternative, choose an app from this list whose own policy allows adult content, and use it the way the app intends. Candy AI keeps it to paid plans, so know that before you pay. If you're happy with SFW, the five SFW apps are a calmer fit, and there's nothing lesser about that choice.

To rebuild the companion you had, use the creator: you pick the appearance, personality and backstory yourself, and the community library has plenty of ready-made characters if you'd rather browse. Personas let you set who you are in the chat.

Memory is where a Replika user should look closely. Free has 4K memory and replies up to 180 tokens, and other reviewers say free recall reaches about 30 messages back. The official blog promises adaptive learning of your preferences, and Get a Taste at $5.95 a month adds a memory manager for key details, with no ads and no queue. For longer context, True Supporter at $19.95 brings semantic memory 2.0 and 8K.

What it doesn't do: live voice calls aren't listed on any plan, only spoken replies on Im All In at $29.95, and free accounts get no images. It's web-only, with no phone app on file. Refunds are rare once you've used a paid account. My SpicyChat review has the tiers.

Memory is the headline. The homepage puts short, medium and long-term memory at the heart of the app, and other reviewers describe it building a "Mind Map" on its own around 500 messages in. One outside source finds it can feel a little too agreeable over time, so if you want pushback, write it into the personality.

The free plan is permanent and has no ads: 50 messages a day, up to 400 characters each, plus 2 images a day. Standard costs $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year, which is $8.33 monthly, and adds unlimited messages, voice calls, up to 10 active Nomis and group chats.

On policy, adult text is allowed, while images stay clothed on every tier. The catches are money and data: all payments are nonrefundable, and the terms grant the company a broad licence to use your chats to improve the system. The statement reads NOMI.AI. Be clear-eyed about the rest. The free account is a sample, up to 5 messages in total per the Help Centre, and adult content is paid-only. For a long companionship, memory is the weak spot: other reviewers report consistency holding for roughly 10-20 messages before details slip, so you may find yourself repeating your key facts. That's a real trade for anyone who valued being remembered.

The 1-Month Plan is €13.99 with unlimited text messages, custom companions and 100 tokens a month, and the 12-Month Plan works out to €3.99 monthly. Tokens cover pictures, voice and video, and outside sources put voice at about 3 tokens a minute.

Refunds outside the EU and UK close 24 hours after payment or after 20 tokens, while the EU and UK get 14 days. The statement reads EverAI, and you cancel under Settings / Unsubscribe. Skip it if memory is your reason for leaving. The rest of the detail is in my Candy AI review.

Free has strings, though: full ads, a slow mode when the servers are busy, and limited daily features, on the PipSqueak 2 and PipSqueak 2 Rawr models. For $4.99 a month, the lite plan adds a daily allowance of premium chat styles, fewer ads and 30 memory pins. For a companion you talk to daily, c.ai+ at $9.99 is the one I'd pay for: no ads, no slow mode, unlimited premium chat styles and the best memory. Paying $94.99 for the year brings that to $7.92 a month.

Memory is the catch. Reviews say recall of buried facts is strong, but the AI sometimes invents details with equal confidence, and one review saw it forget a promise made ten messages earlier. Voices range from surprisingly good to flat. One reviewer also had cards repeatedly declined at c.ai+ checkout. Money paid stays paid unless the law says a refund is due.

Skip Character AI if you want adult content. For that, my NSFW AI chat list is the place to start.

The free start exists: the Terms name a Free Use tier, and secondary sources put it at about 50 messages a day, though no official number is published. Paid plans are secondary-sourced too, since there's no official pricing page: Talkie+ at $9.99 a month and Talkie+ Pro at $24.99. I'd treat both numbers as a guide and confirm the price in your app store before paying.

Memory is the weak spot. Reviews describe solid short-term memory, moderate long-term memory, and an AI that sometimes loses track of the story in long chats. One review says free-tier memory is throttled to about 10,000 tokens, against a 1-million-token model context. Voices get mixed notes: some good, some stiff or off in tone.

Billing runs through the app marketplace. It renews automatically, you cancel where you bought it, and fees are non-refundable. That's standard for a mobile app, but it leaves no direct refund path.

Skip Talkie AI if you need a companion to hold on to what you said weeks ago. If a romantic companion is what you're after, my AI girlfriend list has virtual girlfriend alternatives to Replika worth a look.

The free start is clear and fair. You can browse public characters and start without paying, and Rubies, the app's currency, come free: 50 on sign-up, 30 per daily login, 200 with a referral code and 300 for linking Discord or QQ.

The plan worth paying for is Plus at $7.99 a month: 800 Rubies at once, which Rubii puts at about 1,600 messages, 400 images, plus 5 free images a day. Pro at $14.99 brings 3,000 Rubies and 15 free images a day, which I'd only want for heavy picture use.

What I don't love: billing runs through the app marketplace, the web cancel path isn't published, and refunds are judged one request at a time, with no promise either way. At least the policy is honest about that.

Skip Rubii if you want adult content, since its policy is SFW. For fewer content limits, my uncensored AI chat list is the better place.

The homepage invites you to chat with 10+ AI soulmates, unlimited and online, and a free plan exists, but the free limits aren't published. Everything beyond chat, including custom characters, images, video and voice calls, is paid.

SoulFun Premium is $19.99 a month. It lets you create your own characters and ask for photos, and gives 1000 coins a month, with text messages at 1 coin each, so the coins would cover 1,000 text messages if you spent them on nothing else. That's a steep price for a companion that meters its messages, and it's the part I like least.

Reviews are mixed. Voice calls are said to work well, with custom voice-overs available, but a video-call button reportedly did nothing, custom image requests sometimes fail, and the character's persona can be inconsistent. Cancelling means logging in and sending a request through a Feedback Form, which is more friction than I'd like, and cancelling doesn't refund earlier charges, though you keep premium features until the end of the cycle.

Skip SoulFun AI if you want a cheap or simple way out. For companions that give more for free, my free AI chat list is where I'd look first.

Why include it on a Replika list at all? Because not everyone who leaves Replika wants romance. Some just want a friendly chatbot to talk to, with no pressure and no adult content. Kuki AI is the plainest option here for that.

Getting started is easy. Chat is open straight from the homepage with a Chat Now button, and no limits are published. The Terms mention paid items and optional monthly subscriptions processed by Stripe, but there's no price list on kuki.ai, so nobody can tell you yet what paying would cost or buy. I don't like that, but since chat opens for free, you may never need to find out.

The feature list is short. Kuki AI doesn't offer images, video or custom characters, and voice calls aren't on record. Reviews add that its conversation quality and premium pricing feel less advanced than newer companion platforms, though they describe its memory as transparent, which I read as a plus: you know where you stand.

If you ever subscribe, the Terms say subscriptions are paid in monthly installments, a member can stop the recurring payments whenever they like, and you can end your membership by deleting your account. That's a simple exit, and I like simple exits.

My honest take: Kuki AI is a starting point, not a destination. It suits someone who wants light, friendly conversation without a romance angle, or who wants to find out whether chatting with an AI is for them before spending a cent. If you want a companion that grows with you, look higher on this list.

Rubii runs on Rubies, SoulFun AI on coins, OurDream AI on dreamcoins and Joi AI on Neurons, and that's where a cheap plan grows. Talkie AI's prices are secondary-sourced, and Kuki AI publishes none. My rule: one month first, yearly only once you're sure.

The five SFW apps, Character AI, Talkie AI, Rubii, SoulFun AI and Kuki AI, are SFW under their policies, so paying more buys memory, models, voice or pictures, never a different content level. Among them, Character AI's lite at $4.99 is the cheapest paid step, and Rubii's Plus at $7.99 is the best value if you want images.

If you want a Replika NSFW alternative, the other five are where to look. OurDream AI, Joi AI, Nomi AI and SpicyChat allow adult content under their policies, and Candy AI allows it on paid plans only. Their entry prices: SpicyChat's Get a Taste at $5.95, Joi AI's Premium at $13.99, €13.99 for Candy AI's 1-Month Plan, Nomi AI's Standard Plan Monthly at $15.99 and OurDream AI's Standard Monthly at $19.99.

Nomi AI stands out because its permanent free plan gives 50 messages a day, so you can try it for nothing.

Then look at what comes on top. Candy AI's 1-Month Plan comes with 100 tokens monthly, OurDream AI's Standard Monthly includes 1,000 dreamcoins, and Joi AI runs extras on Neurons. Nomi AI and Character AI both say payments are non-refundable, so start free.

My view: for SFW, don't pay more than $9.99 until an app has earned it. For adult content, start on Nomi AI's or SpicyChat's free plan. The table right below, "The apps side by side", shows which apps offer memory, voice calls, images and group chat. For other topics, see my full rankings.

My call: start with Character AI. Free and unlimited, with a published price list, is the safer first step. Try Talkie AI if voice with your characters matters more and you're fine paying through an app store.

• How you leave: Kuki AI lets you end your membership by deleting your account. SoulFun AI asks for a Feedback Form request and may need extra information to verify you.
• Statement names: Nomi AI shows NOMI.AI and Joi AI shows joi.com, so neither is discreet. SpicyChat's NDAI.CHAT and Candy AI's EverAI are lower-key, and OurDream AI shows DREAM STUDIO LLC AL.
• App-store billing: Talkie AI and Rubii bill through the app marketplace, so cancelling goes through the store.

One more tip for the move itself: write down the few things you want a new companion to know about you, and share them on your own terms. Every app on this list starts from zero, and that's a chance to share less.

My advice: use a separate email, keep your real name, address and workplace out of chats, and share only what you'd be fine with a company keeping.
