Fantasy AI chat: 12 apps for worlds, quests and characters

By Jerry Shlocks

The fantasy picks, before the details

Fantasy asks more of an app than a one-to-one chat does. You need a cast: a rogue, a rival, a dragon with opinions. You need room for lore, and you need a place where the setting is yours, not the app's default. That is how I read these twelve.

SpicyChat leads for long text campaigns, since its free text chat is unlimited on the Default model. Nomi AI follows for a party of characters who remember your world, and Candy AI for a hero you design in detail. OurDream AI is a strong pick because it can show your world, not just describe it, with image and video generation on its paid plans. CrushOn AI is the budget way to run a whole party through group chat.

Every app here lets you create your own characters, which matters if your heroes don't fit the usual mould. If you also want no content filter in your world, my uncensored AI rankings tackle that.

What made an app good for fantasy

I judged fantasy fit on three facts from each app's official pages. The first is whether roleplay is a core category of the app, because a fantasy story is roleplay with a map. The second is group chat. A quest with one character is a conversation; a quest with a party needs several voices in the same scene.

The third is characters: a library to borrow from and the tools to make your own elf, knight or sorceress, looking and loving however you choose.

After that I looked at the free start, which paid tier offers fair value, the content level and the refund rule. For fantasy I also care about context size, since a world with names, places and old grudges needs the app to keep track of them.

The order weighs these facts; it is not built on hands-on sessions, and I haven't played in these worlds myself. My own time in these apps colours the notes, while the order sticks to recorded facts, with other reviewers' findings marked as theirs. Where each fact comes from is laid out in my checking method.

18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.

Below are the seven apps with a full entry, each read through a fantasy lens: can it hold a party, can it hold a world, and what does the first month cost. The other five, Chub AI, HammerAI, Perchance, Character AI and Privee AI, show up in the tables, the costs section and the FAQ, and two of them are strong free options for text adventures.

One honest note: none of these apps describes a dedicated fantasy mode on its official pages, so the fit comes from general tools, not a genre switch. If your stories are more everyday drama than dragons, my AI chat roleplay list weighs the same apps for that.

The first 3 spots are my top picks, and their scores include an author bonus you can see in each review.

SpicyChat: long text campaigns with no message cap

#1

SpicyChat 8.4/10

Long text quests on a free plan

  • Freemium
  • NSFW on all plans
  • Remembers past chats

starts at $5/mo

Start with SpicyChat See the review

SpicyChat is the one I'd hand a friend who writes fantasy the old way, in words. NextDay AI Incorporated runs it from Montreal, and it lists roleplay as one of its two categories. Custom characters and group chat are both in, so you can build a whole cast, from the innkeeper to the villain.

Its free tier gives you unlimited text messages on the Default model. There are ads and possible waiting lines, and replies top out at 180 tokens, which is short for a sweeping battle scene. The bigger limit for fantasy is 4K memory: a long quest will outgrow it.

That is why I'd skip the entry plan here and go for True Supporter, which is $19.95 monthly. It brings 8K context, semantic memory 2.0 and longer replies, plus unlimited in-chat images and up to 50 personas. Im All In at $29.95 goes to 32K context, the size I'd want for a world with real history. Get a Taste at $5.95 is fine for short one-off adventures.

The catch: a reviewer found one character's look changes from picture to picture, which hurts if you want a consistent hero. Once you've used the account, fees aren't refundable, so give the free plan a proper run first. Price rises are announced to subscribers in advance, which I appreciate.

Skip it if you want visuals first. For adult fantasy specifically, my NSFW AI chat rankings sort the apps on content level.

  • Starting free: Free tier
  • Lowest price: $5.00 monthly (Get a Taste)
  • Allowed: mature chat permitted
  • Runs on: web

Nomi AI: a small party that remembers your world

#2

Nomi AI 8.3/10

A party that remembers your world

  • Freemium: 50 msgs daily
  • NSFW on all plans
  • Remembers past chats

starts at $8.33/mo

Start with Nomi AI See the review

Nomi AI, from Glimpse.ai, Inc., is a companion app first, but two of its tools suit a fantasy campaign surprisingly well. The first is memory: the homepage describes short, medium and long-term memory, and other reviewers report it recalling older details unprompted, so the name of the ruined city you mentioned last month may still be there. The second is group chat.

A paid account can keep up to 10 Nomis and 10 group chats active, so a knight, a mage and a thief can share one scene.

There's no library of ready-made heroes on file; you write every character yourself, which fantasy writers usually enjoy anyway. The free plan never expires, with 50 messages a day of up to 400 characters, and creating Nomis is free. Standard, at $15.99 a month or $99.99 a year ($8.33 monthly), unlocks unlimited messages, voice calls, group chats and 40 image credits a day for selfies and art requests.

The limits for a saga: pictures stay clothed and, per one review, come from a ready-made gallery, so your dragon may not look like your dragon. Voice replies are reported to lag 15 to 20 seconds. Refunds aren't given for unused time.

Skip it if you want a big character library or vivid scene art. For how memory and group chats hold up, see my Nomi AI review.

  • Starting free: Free tier, 50 free messages daily
  • Lowest price: $8.33 monthly (Standard Plan Yearly)
  • Allowed: mature chat permitted
  • Runs on: web, ios, android

Candy AI: one hero designed in detail, not a whole party

#3

Candy AI 8.2/10

A hero you design and see

  • Freemium
  • NSFW with a paid plan
  • Remembers past chats

starts at €3.99/mo

Start with Candy AI See the review

Candy AI, from EverAI Limited in Malta, is a web companion and roleplay app, and for fantasy it does one thing well: it lets you design a single character and then see them. The builder covers ethnicity, looks, personality, voice and hobbies, and paid plans add images and video on tokens, so your sorceress can have a face and a short clip to go with her backstory.

For a whole campaign, the fit is weaker, and I'd rather say so. Group chat isn't confirmed, so a party sharing one scene isn't something to count on. Memory is the bigger problem for lore: other reviewers report details holding for roughly 10 to 20 messages before they slip, so keep a short world summary to paste back in.

Paid plans all include uncapped text and 100 tokens a month: €13.99 for a month, €26.97 for three, or €47.88 for a year, which is €3.99 monthly. Images cost 2 or 4 tokens and a short video 12, per outside sources. The free start is up to 5 messages in total, adult content is paid-only, and refunds outside the EU and UK close 24 hours after payment.

Skip it if your story needs a fellowship or a long memory. For the builder and tokens, see my Candy AI review.

  • Starting free: Free tier
  • Lowest price: €3.99 monthly (12-Month Plan)
  • Allowed: mature chat, paid plans
  • Runs on: web

OurDream AI: a fantasy world you can see as well as read

#4

OurDream AI 6.8/10

Fantasy scenes with images and video

  • Freemium
  • NSFW on all plans
  • Remembers past chats

starts at $9.99/mo

Start with OurDream AI See the review

For fantasy, pictures change the game. Being told a tower is covered in ivy is nice; seeing it is better. OurDream AI, made by Dream Studio USA, Inc., puts roleplay at the top of its categories and adds image and video generation on its paid plans.

Reviewers who compared it with rivals single out its scene and context adherence and how a character's face stays the same across pictures, exactly what a recurring hero or villain needs.

Group chat, voice calls, memory and characters of your own making are listed too, so a party of your own design can share one scene. Its content policy allows adult themes.

Getting in is cheap: the free plan gives 55 Dreamcoins, and each message costs 1 Dreamcoin. That is enough to meet one character, not to finish an arc. My pick for an ongoing campaign is Standard Annual at $119.88, which is $9.99 a month, but only after a monthly start at $19.99 has proved the fit. Deluxe Annual at $359.88 adds 3x chat memory, which is tempting for big lore.

The weak spot: calls and video eat coins, and one reviewer called the video clips short and uneven in quality. If you wanted a free world to wander for weeks, look elsewhere. For a different take on a paid app, my review of Candy AI is worth a read.

  • Starting free: Free tier
  • Lowest price: $9.99 monthly (Standard Annual)
  • Allowed: mature chat permitted
  • Runs on: web

CrushOn AI: a cheap way to run a whole party

#5

CrushOn AI 5.3/10

Budget party scenes

  • Freemium
  • NSFW on all plans

starts at $4.91/mo

Try CrushOn AI for free See the review

If your fantasy is a party of adventurers rather than a single companion, CrushOn AI is the budget answer. It comes from TECHIEPIE LTD, is available on the web and on Android, and counts roleplay among its categories. You can create your own characters, and adult content is allowed as a policy.

The free plan is fine for sketching a hero. The free tier, as checked on 2026-09-22, comes with 100 message credits a month and extra coins for daily tasks, plus 8K memory, AI voice replies and unlimited use of the Free models. What it lacks is group chat, so your party waits for a paid plan.

The paid step is small. Standard at $5.99 a month unlocks group chat and 2,000 message credits, and moves you onto 16K memory models, which is decent room for lore. Premium at $14.99 triples the credits to 6,000 if your quests run long. I'd stay monthly: usage fees are not refunded, and neither is unused time.

My worry is the engine room. Some reviewers found many listed chat models buggy or outdated, so you may need to try a few. Others say content filters fire on innocent roleplay. Pictures and video are missing too, so your world stays in words.

Skip it if you want to see your characters. If you want one partner rather than a fellowship, my AI girlfriend list is the better road.

  • Starting free: Free tier
  • Lowest price: $4.91 monthly (Standard)
  • Allowed: mature chat permitted

Soulkyn: images, voice and video for a world with texture

#6

Soulkyn 6.8/10

Fantasy with voice and visuals

  • Freemium
  • NSFW on all plans
  • Remembers past chats

starts at €11.99/mo

Try Soulkyn for free See the review

Soulkyn, from Cube Digital Media Ltd., is the most media-heavy app in this top seven. It is a character hub, companion app and roleplay app, with image and video generation on top. For fantasy, that means a cast you can build, hear through voice calls and see, all in one place. Group chat, memory and custom characters are there too, and adult content is allowed as a policy.

Where I hesitate is the door. Free accounts exist, yet the official FAQ calls the ability to offer them limited, and no exact free limits are published on a reachable official page. I can't tell you how far a free quest goes, and I won't pretend to.

Deluxe, at €49.90 a month, is the only plan confirmed officially. It covers the 70B chat model without limits, plus images and voice, while each video is paid for separately in Souls. Third-party reviews in 2026 also mention Just Chatting at €11.99 and Premium at €24.99, which the official pricing page does not confirm.

For a long campaign, memory is the question. One review says a scene stays intact inside one sitting, yet the thread slips over the weeks, which is rough for a slow-burn saga. Heavy image use also drains credits faster than the price suggests.

Skip it if you want a known free allowance before paying. For the other topics I rank, start at my full set of top lists.

  • Starting free: Free tier
  • Lowest price: €11.99 monthly (Just Chatting)
  • Allowed: mature chat permitted
  • Runs on: web

Moescape AI: a big character library for fantasy on your phone

#7

Moescape AI 6.2/10

Fantasy characters on iOS and Android

  • Freemium
  • Remembers past chats

starts at $9.99/mo

Try Moescape AI for free See the review

Moescape AI, run by MOESCAPE TECHNOLOGY CORP., is built around characters: it is a character hub first, with roleplay and image generation beside it. That makes it a natural home for fantasy fans who like to browse a library for a ready-made mage or knight, then make their own when nothing fits. Group chat, memory, images and video are all listed.

Along with Nomi AI, it's the only app with a full entry here that offers iOS and Android apps.

Its content policy is soft rather than fully adult. For a lot of fantasy, that is no loss at all. Quests, politics and dragons don't need an 18+ setting, and a softer app is easier to open on a train.

The free start works on Mochi. New users receive 100 Mochi, and 50 free Mochi arrive daily, expiring 24 hours after you claim them. Milestone rewards top out at 1,000 Mochi in any 30 days. I like that rhythm for a serial story: one chapter an evening, on the house.

For paying, Plus is $9.99, Pro $14.99, Premium $29.99 and Platinum $39.99. For fantasy I'm drawn to Premium, because one source lists it with 32K context, and a world with a history needs that room. Pro at $14.99 is the saner start, with unlimited chat on basic models.

The Mochi amounts per plan are disputed between sources, which bugs me: on Premium it is 2,500 vs 4,000.

The catch is the currency. Reviewers describe credits running out fast once images, rerolls and video come in, memory that is good but not flawless in long stories, and a busy layout for newcomers. Refunds depend on the policy and on whether Mochi or benefits were already used.

Skip it if you want full adult fantasy or a calm, simple screen. For long free text quests, my full SpicyChat review explains its free plan in detail.

  • Starting free: Free tier
  • Lowest price: $9.99 monthly (Plus)
  • Allowed: unconfirmed
  • Runs on: web, ios, android

Budgeting for a fantasy campaign

Think of the price table below as a campaign budget. Text-only quests are cheap: SpicyChat's Get a Taste is $5.95 and CrushOn AI's Standard is $5.99. The moment your world needs pictures, the floor rises: SpicyChat's image plan is $19.95, OurDream AI starts at $19.99, and Soulkyn's confirmed Deluxe is €49.90.

My rule for fantasy: pay for context before pictures. A world that forgets its own history is worse than a world you can't see. And remember that Dreamcoins, Mochi and credits sit on top. If your fantasy has an anime look, my anime AI chat list compares apps for that style.

Adult fantasy: when you start paying

Not every fantasy story needs an adult setting, but if yours does, here is where each app stands. "The apps side by side" follows this text and shows the features at a glance.

Eight apps on this page allow adult content as a policy: Chub AI, CrushOn AI, HammerAI, Nomi AI, OurDream AI, Privee AI, Soulkyn and SpicyChat, and Candy AI allows it on paid plans only. Moescape AI keeps a soft policy, and Character AI allows none. Perchance lists no content policy, and I'd rather leave it blank than guess.

What changes is the cost of seeing your world. SpicyChat's text chat is free and unlimited, while images start with True Supporter at $19.95. CrushOn AI keeps everything in text, so Standard at $5.99 is the whole bill, party scenes included.

OurDream AI asks $19.99 a month on Standard Monthly for image and video generation plus 1,000 dreamcoins, and Deluxe Annual at $359.88 raises that to 5,000 dreamcoins monthly, with 50 videos and 100 voice-call minutes on top. Chub AI's Mars plan at $20 includes unlimited multimedia generation.

My take: for adult fantasy in words, CrushOn AI at $5.99 is the fairest deal, and my CrushOn AI deep dive walks through its credits and cancel steps. For a world you can see, budget $19.99 to $20 a month to begin with, and more if you like voice and video.

Refunds are the part I'd read twice. HammerAI says all purchases are final. CrushOn AI won't refund usage fees. SpicyChat keeps your money once the account is used, outside exceptional circumstances, and Chub AI reportedly refunds only in exceptional cases too. OurDream AI's 14-day Quality Guarantee is the gentlest rule here.

OurDream AI or SpicyChat for your world?

This is a choice between seeing and remembering. OurDream AI shows your world: images and video on paid plans, voice calls, and face consistency that reviewers rate highly. SpicyChat keeps your world going for free in text, and its higher plans buy the context a long saga needs, up to 32K on Im All In at $29.95.

Pick OurDream AI if your fantasy is visual and you're happy to pay $19.99 from the start. Pick SpicyChat if you write in chapters and want to spend nothing until the story has earned it. I'd open SpicyChat first, simply because finding out is free. More free options live in my free AI chat rankings.

Which suits you: OurDream AI or SpicyChat?

Go with OurDream AI if

6.8/10, starts at $9.99/mo

  • Your fantasy world needs to be seen, in images and video
  • Scene and face consistency across images matter to you
  • You like voice calls with your party
Try it free

or

Go with SpicyChat if

8.4/10, starts at $5/mo

  • You write long quests in text and want to start free
  • You would rather pay for context, up to 32K, than for pictures
  • You like building a big cast, with up to 50 personas

Privacy for your worlds and characters

A fantasy world often carries more of you than you expect: the names you pick, the partners you write for your hero, the plots you'd never pitch to friends. So privacy counts here too. The facts I have cover billing and refunds, not how most of these apps store chats or whether they train on them.

The data points on file are Nomi AI's terms, which let it use your chats to improve the system, and an unconfirmed report that CrushOn AI uses chat logs for training and advertising, with no official page backing it.

What you can act on today:

  • Pick a pen name. Your characters don't need your real name, and neither does your profile.
  • Know the bank line. On a statement, SpicyChat appears as NDAI.CHAT while OurDream AI's charge reads DREAM STUDIO LLC AL. Neither names the app. CrushOn AI shows CRUSHON SUB.
  • Know the exit. OurDream AI cancels from the profile page with "Cancel subscription"; CrushOn AI's web path is Profile, My Subscription, Manage, Cancel Subscription.
  • Try without an account. Perchance runs with no account at all, which is the most private start on this page.

If your stories explore who you love or who you are, that is one more reason to leave real names and details out. Treat your chats as something a stranger could one day read, and build your world with that in mind.

My full write-up on OurDream AI has its billing and cancel details in full.

Common questions

What is the best fantasy AI chat app?

SpicyChat leads my list for long text campaigns that start free. Nomi AI follows for a party of characters who remember your world, and Candy AI for a hero you design and can see. For a world in images and video, OurDream AI is a strong pick, and for a budget party with group chat, CrushOn AI at $5.99 a month. If your fantasy is mostly about browsing ready-made characters on a phone, Moescape AI deserves a look.

Can I run a group adventure with several characters?

Yes, on most of these apps. Eleven of the twelve list group chat in their features; Candy AI's isn't confirmed. One exception to watch: CrushOn AI's free plan has no group chat, so a party needs its Standard plan at $5.99 a month. HammerAI lists group chats on its Starter plan at $9. My advice: build your party one character at a time, then bring them together.

Which app is best for keeping track of a big fantasy world?

For lore, context size matters most. SpicyChat's Im All In plan offers 32K context, HammerAI's Ultimate plan at $35 offers a 65,536-token context, and HammerAI's Starter at $9 adds lorebooks, which reviewers say helped characters keep earlier details. OurDream AI's Deluxe Annual lists 3x chat memory. On free plans, expect characters to forget things in long sessions.

Is there a free fantasy AI chat with no account?

Perchance AI Character Chat is the one here. You need no account to use it free, there are no credits to count and no paywall, and ads pay for unlimited messages and images. One review says memory held for 30-40 exchanges but lost a plot point about 60 messages back, so keep a short summary of your world handy. The interface looks dated, though community forks improve it.

Can I play fantasy on Character AI?

You can, within its rules. On Character AI, messaging is free and unlimited for everyone, and you get a character hub, custom characters and group chat. Its content policy allows no adult content, and free users see ads plus a slow mode when traffic is heavy. For $9.99 a month, c.ai+ takes both away. For clean fantasy, I think it is a fair free option.

Is Chub AI worth it for fantasy roleplay?

Chub AI is a character hub with roleplay at its core and adult content allowed. It has no lasting free plan: new users get trial credits once, enough for a few dozen messages, and self-hosting is free. Mars at $20 a month includes unlimited use of its language models, voice and multimedia generation.

Reviewers praise how well it holds a character's voice, but also mention repetition and the AI writing both sides of a conversation.
