AI chat games: 12 roleplay apps for scenarios and group play

For group scenes with pictures, OurDream AI stands out: paid plans give unlimited messages with any AI character, plus images and video to set the scene, starting at $9.99 a month when billed yearly. For free AI chat games with no message cap, SpicyChat's free plan gives unlimited text chat on its Default model. For group chat on a small budget, CrushOn AI's Standard is $5.99 a month.

My top three all allow adult content, Candy AI on paid plans only. If that's your first filter, my uncensored AI rankings go deeper.

Then the free start, because a game you can't try isn't much of a game. SpicyChat's unlimited free text chat and Character AI's free unlimited messaging count for a lot here, while a one-time trial or a coin per message counts for less. Next, the cheapest plan that unlocks group play, and whether coins or credits sit on top. Last, the fine print: renewal, cancel path, refund rule and the name on your statement.

I'll be open about one bias. I like it when an app says what a plan buys in numbers: 2,000 message credits, 10 personas, 1,000 dreamcoins. It turns the cost of a long campaign into something you can work out. The entries are desk research.

SpicyChat, or Character AI if you want SFW only. Want to swap between characters you play yourself? SpicyChat's paid plans hold up to 10 or 50 personas. Want group chat on a small budget?

CrushOn AI from $5.99. Want to try with no account at all? Perchance AI Character Chat. For story campaigns more than party play, my AI chat roleplay list goes further, and my anime AI chat picks cover that art style.

The free plan is the most playable on this list. You get text chat with no cap on the Default model, though ads and occasional waiting lines come with it, and the official page promises "No paywalls. No timers." The limits are in the details: 4K memory, replies up to 180 tokens, and no images or voice. For a long campaign, that small memory will lose the plot.

Get a Taste ($5.95 monthly or $60 yearly) removes ads and queues, adds a memory manager that stores key details, and allows up to 10 personas. True Supporter at $19.95 raises that to 50 personas, 8K context and unlimited in-chat images. For group play I think Get a Taste is the smart first buy.

The catch: a cited Trustpilot rating of 2/5, with complaints about repetitive replies and rushed scenarios, and images where the same character looks different every time. Memory is what keeps a game going between sessions, and it's Nomi's core feature: the homepage presents long-, medium- and short-term memory, and reviewers describe recall that surfaces older details unprompted. For a campaign, that matters more than any single scene.

The free plan gives 50 messages a day, 400 characters each, and 2 images a day, but the official pages don't say whether group chat is included, so plan on paying for group play. The Standard plan is $15.99 a month, or $99.99 a year.

Limits for players: reviewers say pictures come from a ready-made gallery, images stay clothed on every tier, and voice calls lag 15-20 seconds. There are no refunds by default, so test on free first. The full picture is in my Nomi AI review.

What it adds to a game is the visual side. You design a character's looks, personality, voice and hobbies, and paid plans include 18+ images and video, so a scene can come with pictures. Reviewers say the images look lifelike and hold one look from picture to picture, though roughly 1 in 8 shows obvious flaws.

The free start won't carry a game: 5 messages under its terms, and 3-5 messages with 3-5 images in a check dated 2026-09-22. Adult content is for paid plans. The 1-Month Plan is €13.99 with unlimited text and 100 tokens, and the 12-Month Plan works out to €3.99 a month. Reviewers also report details slipping after 10-20 messages, which hurts long campaigns.

The free start is weak for a game. Joining and browsing are free, but every chat message takes 1 Dreamcoin, and the help centre says free dreamcoins aren't offered by default, while the plan listing mentions 55 Dreamcoins to start. One reviewer says the free tier got thinner in 2026.

The plan to play on is Standard: $19.99 monthly, or $119.88 billed once a year, which is $9.99 a month, with unlimited messages with any AI character and 1,000 dreamcoins a month. Deluxe Annual, at $359.88 a year or $29.99 a month, adds 100 minutes of voice calls, 50 videos and 3x chat memory. I'd stay on Standard unless voice is the game for you, since reviewers say voice calls drain coins fast.

I like the refund rule: a 14-day Quality Guarantee that support judges case by case. The statement reads DREAM STUDIO LLC AL. Skip it if you want to play free for weeks. If one companion interests you more than a cast, compare it with my Candy AI review.

The free plan is counted: a free-tier check on 2026-09-22 found a monthly allowance of 100 message credits, topped up by coins you earn from daily tasks. The plan also lists unlimited Free models, AI voice replies and 8K memory, but no group chat. So you can try the characters for free, not the group play.

Standard is where group chat opens, at $5.99 a month or $58.88 a year, which is $4.91 a month, with 2,000 message credits and 16K memory models. Premium at $14.99 gives 6,000 credits if you play every day. I'd skip Luxe and Elite until you've run out of credits more than once.

Now the part I don't like. There are no refunds of usage fees and no partial refunds. Reviewers cite a Trustpilot rating around 1.8-2 out of 5, with complaints about double-charging and filters triggering on innocent roleplay, and many listed models are called buggy. The statement reads CRUSHON SUB. If you want one partner rather than a party, my AI girlfriend list fits better.

The free start is a question mark. Soulkyn confirms free accounts exist but calls them limited and publishes no number, so I can't tell you how long you could play before paying.

The price is steep for a hobby. Deluxe costs €49.90 monthly: the 70B model with no chat cap, plus images and voice without limits, while video costs extra per use in Souls. Cheaper plans, Just Chatting at €11.99 and Premium at €24.99, come from third-party reviews only.

Reviewers say memory keeps one session's scene together but not a campaign over weeks, that heavy image use draws credits down faster than expected, and that video feels like an occasional paid extra. For a one-evening game, that's fine. For a months-long story, I'd weigh the memory notes first. If this is more than you need, my top AI app lists will point you somewhere cheaper.

What makes it work as a game is the daily reward loop. The official Mochi guide gives new users 100 Mochi, plus 50 free Mochi every day, and claimed daily Mochi expire 24 hours later. Milestones can earn more, capped at 1,000 Mochi per 30 days. I like that it's counted, and I like even more that it refills.

The flip side: daily Mochi don't pile up, so it rewards people who play a bit each day.

Paid plans start with Plus at $9.99 a month, mostly more Mochi and no ads. Pro at $14.99 is the one I'd pick for heavy play, since it lists unlimited chat on basic models. Premium at $29.99 unlocks all models with a 32K context, and Platinum at $39.99 adds 6,250 Mochi according to a single source. The Mochi amounts per plan are disputed between sources, so check the checkout page before you pay.

The catch is the meter. Reviewers say credits run out fast on images, rerolls and video, and memory is decent but not perfect in long roleplay. They see voice more as a creative extra than a live, real-time call. They also call the platform crowded for new users, which I'd expect from a busy hub.

Refund eligibility depends on whether you've used the Mochi or plan benefits, and you cancel in account settings, or through the app store if you paid there.

On SpicyChat and Character AI you can play free without a message cap, and the paid plans buy memory, personas and fewer ads. Then look for what's metered on top: dreamcoins, Mochi or message credits. That meter, not the headline price, decides what a busy week of play costs you.

Unlimited chat, extras on top: SpicyChat's free plan and Character AI's free tier are unlimited on text. OurDream AI's Standard gives unlimited messages with any AI character for $19.99 a month, and its 1,000 dreamcoins go on images and video. Pro on Moescape AI at $14.99 lists unlimited chat on basic models. For a game that's mostly talk, these are the plans I'd pick.

Counted messages: CrushOn AI sells message credits, 2,000 a month on Standard and 6,000 on Premium. Whether that's enough depends on how many messages your scenes take, so count a typical week before you pick a tier. My CrushOn AI review breaks the tiers down in full.

Flat and all-in: Chub AI's Mars at $20 a month lists unlimited model access, voice and multimedia generation. HammerAI's Starter at $9 gives unlimited cloud messages, group chats and lorebooks, plus 1,500 credits, which is 150 images or 300 TTS.

Memory is the upgrade that matters most for games, and it costs extra almost everywhere. SpicyChat's context goes from 4K on free to 32K on Im All In, and OurDream AI's Deluxe Annual lists 3x chat memory.

My rule: pay monthly until you know how often you really play, then switch to yearly only on the app you keep coming back to.

• Training claims. Reviewers report that CrushOn AI uses chat logs and personal data for AI training and advertising. No official CrushOn AI page confirms it, but I'd keep it in mind before a long campaign there.
• Statement names. OurDream AI bills as DREAM STUDIO LLC AL, SpicyChat as NDAI.CHAT, Nomi AI as NOMI.AI, Candy AI as EverAI and CrushOn AI as CRUSHON SUB. Know them before they show up.
• No account. Perchance AI Character Chat runs with no account at all, so nothing ties your scenes to your email.
• Leaving. OurDream AI cancels from your profile, SpicyChat from Profile > Manage Subscription, and on both you keep access until the paid period is over.
• Who runs it. OurDream AI names Dream Studio USA, Inc., SpicyChat names NextDay AI in Canada, the US and Cyprus, and CrushOn AI names TECHIEPIE LTD. Perchance names no legal entity at all.

My advice: play a character, not yourself. Keep your real name, city and workplace out of scenes, use a separate email for apps like these, and read the privacy policy before paying.
