Does PolyBuzz have a filter? The honest answer

By Jerry Shlocks · Last reviewed

Does PolyBuzz have a filter at all?

Yes. PolyBuzz has a content filter, and the policy on file for it is "soft only". In plain words: romantic and flirty roleplay is fine, fully explicit text is not what this app is built for. My take is that this is a deliberate line, not a glitch.

None of the paid plans on file, from the $4.99 weekly Standard plan up to Ultimate at $29.90 a month, lists adult content as something you unlock.

Here is what PolyBuzz does give you, filter or not:

  • Free text chat on the Standard model, with ads and no published daily cap
  • Community characters, plus characters you build yourself
  • Image generation, gated by coins after one free image to start
  • Two free voice plays, then voice as a paid extra
  • Stronger memory models from Premium at $19.90 a month

What bothers me a little is that the filter is never described in detail on the pages on file. There is no published list of what it blocks and no named setting that adjusts it. So the only way to learn where the line sits is to chat on the free plan, which is fair for a free app but annoying if you were weighing a subscription.

If your real question is "can I get more than that here", my honest answer is no, and I'd rather say it now than after you pay. Apps with a policy that allows adult content do exist. The table right after this section, "The apps side by side", puts PolyBuzz next to several of them, so you can compare the content policy line by line with memory, voice and images.

One practical note if you're coming over from another character app after a filter annoyed you there: tidy up before you leave. To wipe what you leave behind there, follow my steps for clearing your Character AI chat history.

Does PolyBuzz allow NSFW chats on any plan?

No, not on the facts on file. The content policy is listed as soft only, and that label belongs to the app, not to a plan. So the answer to "does PolyBuzz allow NSFW chats" is the same for a free account and for Ultimate at $29.90 a month: flirty and romantic, yes; fully explicit, no. Nothing in the paid plan descriptions changes that level.

I actually like how simple this is. Some apps keep adult content behind a paywall and let the free tier hint at it, and that's how buyers get charged for content they never got to preview. PolyBuzz doesn't play that game. What you see on the free Standard model is the content level you get later.

What the paid tiers change is comfort, not content:

  • Premium at $19.90 a month: stronger memory chat models, unlimited voice listening, no ads, priority chat
  • Premium also opens the Passion, Tale and Standard models
  • Ultimate at $29.90 a month: everything in Premium plus extra models, among them Permanent Memory, Overture, Lumina, Conqueror and Saga
  • Yearly web plans: $99, $199 and $299 for Standard, Premium and Ultimate

Is a paid PolyBuzz plan worth it for the content level?

My view: don't pay PolyBuzz hoping the filter relaxes. Pay only if the free chat already suits you and you want better memory or no ads. The weekly Standard plan at $4.99 looks cheap, but it works out to $21.62 a month, more than twice the $9.90 monthly Standard plan. That's the plan I'd skip.

The billing box above matters here too. Plans renew automatically, and completed purchases are not refunded without due reason, so a plan bought for the wrong reason simply stays paid. On iOS you cancel through the Apple ID subscriptions in the Settings app; on Android, through the Google Play Store subscriptions menu.

For chat quality, memory and every plan in detail, my full PolyBuzz review goes tier by tier. Short version: a generous free character app with a gentle content line, and I'd judge it on that, not on what it won't do.

Which apps allow adult content if PolyBuzz feels too filtered?

If the soft line is a deal breaker, switching apps is the clean answer, and it keeps your account safe. Five apps on this page have a policy that allows adult content, but they differ a lot in how much you get before paying. Here is how I'd sort them for someone leaving PolyBuzz:

  • SpicyChat: adult content is allowed under its policy, and on the free plan the Default model gives unlimited text chat with ads, possible waiting lines, 4K memory and replies up to 180 tokens. No images or voice on free. Paid starts at $5.95 a month.
  • Nomi AI: adult content allowed, and a permanent free plan with 50 messages a day, up to 400 characters each, no ads. Standard is $15.99 a month.
  • OurDream AI: adult content allowed. The free plan lists 55 Dreamcoins to start at 1 Dreamcoin per message, though its help centre says it does not currently offer free dreamcoins, so that number may change. Standard is $19.99 a month.
  • GirlfriendGPT: adult chat on paid plans only. Free users start with 20 bonus messages and 30 coins, then earn 10 a day by logging in; Premium at $15.00 a month lists NSFW chat.
  • Candy AI: adult content on paid plans only, with a very small free start. The 1-Month Plan is €13.99, and the 12-month plan is €47.88 upfront (€3.99 a month) in its current sale.

My pick for a PolyBuzz refugee is SpicyChat, because the free start feels closest to what you're used to: unlimited text, character chat, pay later if at all. If memory matters more than volume, Nomi AI's 50 messages a day with no ads is the more considered choice.

What I'd avoid is paying for Candy AI or GirlfriendGPT before you know the characters suit you. Both put adult chat behind a subscription, so the free start tells you little about the part you're actually switching for.

Why does PolyBuzz censor words mid-chat?

I don't have PolyBuzz's own explanation of how its filter decides, so I won't pretend to know the exact rules. What I can tell you is what the facts on file point to. PolyBuzz is run by Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited, which offers it on the web, iOS and Android, and its content policy is soft only.

An app that draws the line at soft content has to enforce it somewhere, and blocking or softening words in a reply is how that line shows up in a chat.

So, does PolyBuzz have NSFW content? Only at that soft level. When a scene pushes past it, the filter steps in, and from the reader's side that looks like censored words, a reply that changes the subject or a story that suddenly fades out. Annoying, yes. Random, probably not: it's the policy doing its job.

My honest opinion is that the frustration usually comes from a mismatch, not from the filter itself. PolyBuzz markets free, unlimited chat with characters, and many of those characters look like they belong in spicier stories. The app, though, was never listed as an adult app. If you expect Full 18+, every block will feel like a bug. If you expect Romantic to Suggestive, it mostly behaves as advertised.

Two things I'd keep in mind before you get frustrated:

First, rewording the same scene again and again rarely changes a policy line. It only burns your evening. If the scene you want is past the soft line, it will stay past it.

Second, don't reach for tricks that promise to switch the filter off. Getting around a content filter breaks the app's terms, and a ban would take the account with all your characters and chats. I won't share workarounds here, and I don't trust pages that do.

If your question is broader, say about billing, deleting chats or which app suits which need, my help section collects the short answers in one place. And if the filter is the only thing you dislike about PolyBuzz, that's a good sign: the rest of the app, free chat and a big character library, is easy to keep for the scenes that fit inside its line.

Can you turn the PolyBuzz filter off?

There's no sign of a way. No setting, toggle or plan in the PolyBuzz records turns the content level up, and the soft policy covers free and paid accounts alike. If someone tells you a certain prompt or trick does it, treat that as a red light for your account, not a secret. Evading a filter breaks the terms, and a ban costs you every character you built.

I know that is not the answer some readers hope for. But I'd rather be straight with you: the only reliable way to get a different content level is an app whose policy allows it. My separate guide on the PolyBuzz chat filter and what you can change goes through what the app's own settings cover, without any evasion tips.

What you can control is the kind of story you start. A romance that builds slowly, flirting, jealousy, a first date, fits inside a soft policy very well. That's where PolyBuzz is strongest anyway, and the free Standard model covers it at no charge.

What should you read in a content policy before paying for any app?

This is the habit that saves the most money in this whole category. Before you pay any app, look for three things on its official pages: the content level it allows, whether that level changes from plan to plan, and what refund you get if you change your mind.

PolyBuzz scores well on the first two for honesty: soft only, same on every plan. It scores badly on the third. Completed purchases are not refunded without due reason, so the policy line is something to understand before the first payment, not after it.

Other apps split it differently. Candy AI and GirlfriendGPT allow adult content only on paid plans, so the free start shows you less of what you'd pay for. SpicyChat, Nomi AI and OurDream AI allow it under their policy without tying it to a specific plan in the records.

If you're curious how the apps on this site are compared, what counts as an official source and how prices are dated, the page on how the apps here are checked explains it. My advice in one line: read the policy, then start free, then decide.

Does PolyBuzz have an NSFW filter like Character AI?

People often ask about the two side by side, and I understand why: both are big character chat apps with community-made characters. I can only speak for PolyBuzz from the facts on file here. Its filter holds content at a soft level on every plan, and adult content is not listed as allowed on any tier.

I have no Character AI content policy in the records for this page, so I won't compare the two lines word for word. If that app is your other option, my separate guide on Character AI's stance on adult chat covers that question on its own. My only advice for comparing them: judge each app by what its official pages say, not by rumours about a filter getting stricter or looser.

That also answers the "why now" question I see a lot. Nothing on file dates a change to the PolyBuzz policy, so I can't confirm that it got stricter recently. If a scene that used to work now gets blocked, the soft policy is the most likely reason, and it was there before too.

My verdict: who should stay on PolyBuzz?

Stay if you want free, unlimited text chat with a large set of characters, and your stories live in romance, drama or light flirting. For that reader, the filter is barely a cost, and the free plan with ads is one of the easiest starts in the category. I'd also stay if you like building your own characters and don't need them to go past a gentle line.

Leave if fully explicit text is the point. No PolyBuzz plan changes that, and paying $19.90 or $29.90 a month for stronger memory won't fix a content mismatch. In that case, pick one of the apps with an adult policy and start on its free plan first.

The in-between reader, who wants mostly romance with the odd spicier scene, is the hardest call. My suggestion: keep PolyBuzz for the everyday chats, where it costs nothing, and try Nomi AI or SpicyChat free for the rest before paying anyone. That way you spend money only once you know which app actually fits.

Common questions

Does PolyBuzz allow NSFW?

No. The content policy on file for PolyBuzz is soft only: romantic and flirty chat is fine, fully explicit text is not. That applies to the free plan and to every paid tier, from the $4.99 weekly Standard plan up to Ultimate at $29.90 a month. If adult content is what you want, choose an app whose policy allows it rather than trying to push PolyBuzz past its line.

Does PolyBuzz do NSFW on the paid plans?

Not according to the plan descriptions on file. Premium and Ultimate add stronger memory models, unlimited voice listening, no ads and priority chat, and Ultimate adds more models such as Permanent Memory. None of them lists adult content, so paying buys comfort, not a different content level.

Does PolyBuzz have a filter now that it did not have before?

Nothing on file dates a change to the PolyBuzz content policy, so I can't confirm a new or stricter filter. What the records show is a soft-only policy today. If scenes feel more blocked than you remember, that policy is the likely reason, and it is the line the app draws for everyone.

Why does PolyBuzz keep telling me to take a break?

The official PolyBuzz pages on file say nothing about break messages, so I can't tell you what triggers them or whether they can be changed. I'd rather say that plainly than guess. If the message bothers you, ask PolyBuzz directly, since only the company can explain its own prompts and whether they can be turned down.

Can a jailbreak prompt get around the PolyBuzz filter?

I won't share one, and I'd advise against trying. Getting around a content filter breaks the app's terms and can get the account banned, which means losing every character and chat on it. If the soft policy doesn't suit you, moving to an app whose policy allows adult content for adults is the safe way to get there.

Is PolyBuzz still worth it with the filter?

For free character chat, yes. Text chat on the Standard model is free with ads and no published daily cap, which is generous. It is worth paying only if you want stronger memory or no ads, and I'd pick the $9.90 monthly Standard plan over the weekly one, which works out to $21.62 a month.
