AI Character Swap: 3 Tools That Really Swap, Compared
Prices confirmed on
Which AI character swap tool should you start with?
My short answer: Viggle AI if you want a whole character, body and all, dancing through a clip. Akool if you want the most control, from a single face to a full character in video. Reface if you just want your own face in a meme clip or GIF in a couple of taps.
A character swap takes a face or a full figure from one picture and puts it into another image or video, so it moves, sings or talks as if it had been there all along. That is a different thing from the chat apps on the rest of this site, and it comes with one rule I care about more than any feature: only swap your own face, or a character you drew or own. Never a real person without their permission. All three companies say the same in their own rules, and all three ban sexual content outright.
If you ended up here looking for characters that talk back, my full ranking of companion apps is the better place to start. My top three are a different kind of pick: SpicyChat, Nomi AI and Candy AI swap nothing, but each lets you create an original character, so no real person's face is involved at all. After them come the three tools that really do the swapping: what each one does, what the free plan gives, what a paid plan costs, and where your uploads end up.

How I picked and ordered the swap tools
This list is short on purpose. Plenty of apps pitch the latest AI character swap, but only a few really take a face or a figure and put it into a new picture or clip. These three do, and each company publishes clear rules about whose face you may use, which is my first filter for this topic.
The order weighs facts from the official pages. First, how complete the swap is: a full-body character swap into motion video beats a face-only swap, and several modes beat one. Then the free start, meaning what you can make before paying and whether the result carries a watermark.
Then the price per result, which on all three runs on credits or weekly store plans, so I read the fine print on what a credit actually buys. Last, privacy: how long uploads and face data are kept, whether you can delete them, and whether your pictures may train the company's models.
I also looked at store ratings where they exist, because they are the closest thing to a crowd verdict: Viggle AI sits at 4.8 on the App Store and 4.6 on Google Play, Reface at 4.8 on the App Store and 3.8 on Google Play, and Akool at 4.1 from 154 App Store ratings.
One honest note: I haven't put my own photos through any of these three, so this page describes what the companies publish. If you want an AI partner you can chat with instead, my AI girlfriend list is where I rank those.
18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.
A quick word before the entries, because it matters more here than on any chat app page. Every tool below can put a real face into a video that looks real. That is fun with your own selfie or a character you made, and a real problem with anyone else's.
Viggle AI, Akool and Reface all ban using someone's face without consent, all three ban sexual content, and breaking the rules can cost you the account. My rule is simple: if the face is not yours and the person has not said yes, don't upload it. If what you really want is chat with fewer content limits, that is a different kind of app, and my uncensored AI chat picks cover those.
The first 3 spots are my top picks, and their scores include an author bonus you can see in each review.
SpicyChat: no swapping, an original character built from scratch
SpicyChat 8.4/10
Design an original character
- Freemium
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at $5/mo
SpicyChat is a web roleplay and companion app from NextDay AI Incorporated in Montreal, and I want to be upfront: it does not swap faces or bodies. It's here for readers who typed "character swap" but really want a character of their own to talk to. The builder lets you set a character's appearance, personality and backstory from nothing, so there's no borrowed face and no consent question.
Text chat with your character is free with no cap on the Default model, with ads and a possible queue. Pictures of her come from the in-chat image generator, which offers anime or semi-realistic styles and custom prompts, but only from True Supporter at $19.95 a month. Outside reviews say one character can look different from image to image, so it's no substitute for a tool that keeps a face fixed. There's no video.
Get a Taste at $5.95 a month removes ads and queues. Refunds are for exceptional cases once you've used the account.
Skip it if you want your own face in a clip; the swap tools below do that. For the chat side, see my SpicyChat review.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $5.00 monthly (Get a Taste)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web
Nomi AI: a companion whose pictures can move, but no face swap
Nomi AI 8.3/10
Turn her pictures into short clips
- Freemium: 50 msgs daily
- NSFW on all plans
- Remembers past chats
starts at $8.33/mo
Nomi AI is a companion app from Glimpse.ai, Inc., on the web, iOS and Android, and like the other two chat apps here, it doesn't swap anyone into anything. What it does have that touches this topic is motion: an image-to-video tool turns a selfie or art picture of your Nomi into a clip of about 5 seconds, at 6 credits in standard definition or 10 in HD. Image edits and transforms cost 1 credit each.
You design the Nomi yourself, and creating one is free, so the character is original rather than a copy of a real person. Free accounts get 50 messages a day and 2 images a day. Standard costs $15.99 a month or $99.99 a year ($8.33 monthly) and includes 40 image credits a day; extra credits can only be bought with a plan running. Images are clothed only on every tier.
Refunds aren't given for unused time or dissatisfaction.
Skip it if putting a face into an existing clip is the goal. If an original companion with moving pictures sounds better, my Nomi AI review covers it.
- Starting free: Free tier, 50 free messages daily
- Lowest price: $8.33 monthly (Standard Plan Yearly)
- Allowed: mature chat permitted
- Runs on: web, ios, android
Candy AI: build her look instead of borrowing one
Candy AI 8.2/10
Build her looks, voice and style
- Freemium
- NSFW with a paid plan
- Remembers past chats
starts at €3.99/mo
Candy AI is a web companion app from EverAI Limited in Malta. It doesn't take your face or anyone else's and put it into a video, so it isn't a swap tool. What it offers is the other route to a custom character: a builder where you pick ethnicity, looks, personality, voice and hobbies, then chat with the result.
For people who wanted a character that looks a certain way without using a real person, that's the cleaner option.
Pictures and video of your companion are paid features, spent in tokens: images cost 2 or 4 tokens depending on the engine, and a short clip starts at 12. Every plan includes 100 tokens a month, and creating a custom companion costs 10. Plans are €13.99 a month, €26.97 for three months, or €47.88 a year, which is €3.99 monthly. The free start is up to 5 messages in total.
Outside the EU and UK, a refund must be requested within 24 hours of paying.
Skip it if you want to star in a clip yourself. For the builder and tokens in detail, read my Candy AI review.

Viggle AI: a whole character moving through any clip
Viggle AI 6.7/10
Full-body swaps into motion video
- Freemium
starts at $7.99/mo
Viggle AI is the swap tool for anyone who wants the full figure swapped, not only the face. You give it one picture of a character, a photo of yourself or something you drew, plus a motion video, and the character performs the moves of the person in the clip. Mix handles one character, the Multi-Editor swaps several characters across scenes, Motion Control animates a still with a reference clip, and Viggle LIVE swaps you into a character in real time through your webcam, ready to stream to OBS, Twitch, YouTube or Kick.
There are 8,000+ ready-made motion templates if you have no clip of your own, which makes this the Viggle AI character swap most people have probably seen in their feeds.
The free start is honest: 5 free videos a day with a watermark, one generation at a time, motion uploads up to 1 minute and files kept for 7 days. Pro at $9.99 a month removes the watermark and adds 80 credits, and the terms say one credit covers 15 seconds of a Mix, Multi or Motion Control video. That is 1,200 seconds a month, though the pricing FAQ warns that some models use more credits.
Fees and credits are non-refundable, so I'd stay on the free plan until you know you will use it.
Consent is spelled out: the Community Rules say not to use photos of friends, family or anyone else without consent, LIVE streamers need the consent of everyone in the stream, and Viggle can remove uploads with a celebrity likeness. What bothers me is that the LIVE page still pitches streaming as celebrities. Skip that pitch.
And if you want a character who chats with you rather than dances, my Candy AI review covers that side.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $7.99 monthly (Pro (yearly))
- Allowed: unconfirmed
- Runs on: web, ios, android
Akool: the most complete swap studio, from faces to full characters
Akool is the tool I'd point you to if you want control. It is a swap studio with separate modes: Face Swap puts a face from one photo onto a person in a target photo or video, Character Swap replaces a whole person in a video with another character, real or generated, and there are Head Swap, Hair Swap, Clothing Swap, Motion Swap and a Live Face Swap for streams and calls. It handles several faces in one group shot, and you can load up to 50 files at once or paste a video link. That range makes it the most flexible AI tool to swap a character of the three.
The free plan never asks for payment, but I'd call it a demo: a full-screen watermark, slow processing, 720P uploads and target videos up to 30 seconds. The official pages do not say how many free credits a new account gets. Starter at $12 a month drops the watermark and gives 200 credits, and Face Swap and Character Swap start at 4 credits each, so that is at most 50 swaps a month.
Credits do not carry over, and refunds come as account credit, never cash. Buy the month you need, not the year.
On consent, Akool's moderation policy bans content that misrepresents, impersonates or harms individuals, celebrities or brands, and the terms make you responsible for having the rights to every input. Uploads also go through automated image and video checks. Adult content is banned too, so if that is what you are after, my NSFW AI chat list covers chat apps whose rules allow it.
The catch for Android users: there is an iOS app and the web, but the Google Play page of the Android app it links to returned an error on 2026-09-28.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $12.00 monthly (Starter)
- Allowed: unconfirmed
- Runs on: web, ios
Reface: your own face in memes, GIFs and clips in a few taps
Reface is the lightest of the three, and I mean that kindly. You pick a clip, GIF or picture from the in-app catalog or your own gallery, add a photo with your face, and the app finds the faces and swaps yours in. There are also gender swaps, face morphing, singing photos with lip sync and new hairstyles to try on.
On the web, the Unboring tool by Reface does the same for photos and videos in a browser. It is a face swap, not a full-body one, so your face lands on someone else's body in the clip.
The free start is where I get cautious. The app is free to download and shows ads, but premium features such as AI photos and videos from your face need a subscription or in-app purchase, and no free swap count is published. The App Store lists several weekly items from $2.49 to $6.99 without saying clearly what each unlocks, next to a $24.99 annual plan.
At $6.99 a week, PRO works out to $30.29 a month, while the annual plan is $2.08 a month. If you pay, pay yearly. Also note that AI video generation is capped at 3 results per week, even on paid plans.
Where Reface does well is consent and data. Its Community Guidelines say not to upload, reface or share content with any faces other than your own unless you have express consent and the legal right, and to delete a swap if the person in it asks. Removing Reface watermarks is forbidden, and there is a public page to check them.
Face data needs a separate opt-in and is kept for 48 hours after extraction, 30 days at most. The refund rules disagree between the FAQ, the terms and the Unboring page, so buy through Apple or Google if you want the simplest route. If you would rather design a character from scratch than borrow a face, my OurDream AI review is a better fit.
- Starting free: Free tier
- Lowest price: $2.08 monthly (Annual (App Store))

What a swap really costs on each tool
All three have a free start, and all three push you toward paying in different ways. Viggle AI gives the most usable free AI character swap video: 5 a day, watermarked. Akool's free plan puts a full-screen watermark on everything and stops at 30-second clips.
Reface is free with ads, but the swaps from your own face sit behind a subscription and no free count is published.
My view: the free tiers are for finding out whether you like the result, not for posting it. Plan on paying if you want clean files. If what you want is free chat rather than free video, my free AI chat list is the page for that.

What the paid plans get you per clip
Credits make these prices hard to compare, so here is how I read them. The side-by-side table right after this section shows the headline plans; this is what they buy.
Viggle AI Pro at $9.99 a month, or $7.99 a month on the yearly plan, gives 80 credits. One credit covers 15 seconds of a Mix, Multi or Motion Control video, so 80 credits come to 1,200 seconds, or 20 minutes of watermark-free video on those tools. Live at $19.99 gives 200 credits and 6+ hours of Real-Time Swap streaming.
A top-up of 20 credits costs $3.00, but it only works while you hold a plan. One thing I don't like: Live costs $24.99 a month through the App Store, $5 more than on the web. Buy on the web.
Akool Starter at $12 a month gives 200 credits. Face Swap and Character Swap start at 4 credits, Motion Swap at 2, Head Swap at 5 and Hair Swap at 6. At the 4-credit starting price that is 50 swaps a month at most, and the unused credits vanish when the period ends.
Pro at $30 a month, or $21 a month billed yearly, gives 600 credits and 4K video up to 30 minutes. Most people who want clean swaps for social posts will be fine on Starter.
Reface has the cheapest yearly price at $24.99 in the App Store, and the web Unboring Basic plan at $90.99 a year adds unlimited photo swaps with no watermarks, while video swaps are priced by length, frame rate and number of faces.
On billing, all three renew on their own. Akool asks you to cancel at least 24 hours before renewal, and Reface store plans must be switched off at least 24 hours before the period ends. Viggle AI and Akool refunds are close to none, so set a reminder. For how a chat app's subscription compares, my SpicyChat review walks through one.

Viggle AI or Akool: how to choose
These two are the real swap contenders, and they suit different people. Pick Viggle AI if you want motion: a character doing a dance, a meme, a stunt, or you appearing as a character live on stream. The free plan lets you make 5 clips a day, and Pro at $9.99 is the cheaper paid start.
Pick Akool if you want precision: swapping only a face, a head or the hair, several faces in a group photo, or high-resolution video for a project. It costs more per month, but it is also the only one of the three whose terms say your content is never used to train models.
If you are still torn, start both free and compare the watermarked results side by side. More on what I read before ranking any app is on my how I check the apps page.
Which suits you: Viggle AI or Akool?
Go with Viggle AI if
6.7/10, starts at $7.99/mo
- You want a full character, body and all, moving through a clip
- You want 5 free watermarked videos a day to play with first
- You want to appear as a character live on stream through your webcam
or
Go with Akool if
6.8/10, starts at $12/mo
- You want separate modes for face, head, hair, clothing or the whole character
- You care that your uploads are never used to train models
- You need several faces swapped in one group photo or video
Where your photos and face data go
A swap tool needs your face, so privacy matters even more here than on a chat app. This is what each company says it does with your uploads, and it is not the same across the three.
- Viggle AI: the privacy policy says the facial and body features pulled from an upload are used only to make your video and are not kept, and face data is not stored or shared. A copy of each upload stays in your library until you delete it. Free users' images and results may be used to train its models; content made while paying, or through the API, is not used for training without written consent.
- Akool: uploads are stored for 365 days, and you can clear them at any time. The terms say your content and usage data are never used by Akool or third parties to train machine learning models.
- Reface: face data is collected only after a separate opt-in, kept for 48 hours after extraction and 30 days at most. Uploads and results are kept for up to 30 days, and you can erase your data in the app with Erase My Personal Data or by email. The terms do allow de-identified use for training AI models.
My take: Akool has the clearest no-training promise, Reface the shortest retention, and Viggle AI is fine if you pay, less so on the free plan. Whichever you pick, delete old uploads you no longer need.
Privacy also covers the people in your pictures. All three ban swapping someone without their consent, and Reface asks you to delete a swap if the person in it asks. Treat that as the bare minimum. A friend's face in a funny clip still needs a yes from that friend.
If you are comparing these data rules with a chat app's, my CrushOn AI review is a good contrast, and for characters you talk with rather than swap, see my AI roleplay chat list.
Common questions
What is the best AI character swap video tool right now?
For a full character moving through a clip, Viggle AI is my pick: it swaps a character from one picture into a motion video, with 8,000+ templates and a live webcam mode. For more control, Akool offers separate face, head, hair, clothing and character swaps in photos and video. Reface is the simplest if you only want your own face in a meme clip or GIF.
Is there a free AI character swap video with no sign-up?
None of the three official pages on file promises use without an account, so plan on making one. After that, Viggle AI gives 5 free videos a day with a watermark, and Akool has a free plan with a full-screen watermark and target videos up to 30 seconds. Reface is free to download with ads, but it does not publish a free swap count.
Can I swap a celebrity or a friend into a video?
Not without their permission. Viggle AI's rules say not to use photos of friends, family or anyone else without consent, and it can remove uploads with a celebrity likeness. Akool bans content that impersonates individuals, celebrities or brands. Reface says to use only your own face unless you have express consent and the legal right. Stick to your own face or characters you created.
Do these tools add a watermark?
On the free plans, yes. Viggle AI's free videos carry a watermark that Pro at $9.99 a month removes. Akool's free plan uses a full-screen watermark, and Starter at $12 a month drops it. Reface marks its content and forbids removing those marks; on its Unboring web tool, no watermarks is listed as a paid perk.
Does Viggle AI use my photos to train its AI?
On the free plan, it may. Viggle AI's privacy policy says it can use the images you provide and the content you generate to train its models, but content made while you are a paying user, and anything sent through the API, is not used without your prior written consent. The policy also says face data is not stored.
Can I get a refund if I don't like the results?
It depends on the tool, and mostly the answer is no. Viggle AI says fees and credits are non-refundable. Akool pays any refund as account credit, never cash, and does not refund accidental purchases. Reface store purchases go through Apple or Google, and its own refund rules differ between pages, so test the free start first.
