RPRP AI review: the branching one, now closed

What was RPRP AI, and can you still use it?

RPRP AI was a roleplay and character hub launched in 2024, with companion chat plus image and video generation paid for in coins, and the service is now closed. I used it for four months in early 2025, January to April, on the yearly Premium plan at $5 a month. In my notes it is "the branching one": chat branching let me rewind and run parallel timelines.

You can't sign up today. The status is closed, while the last pricing notes describe the service as paused, so sources differ on whether it is gone for good. Nothing published says it is coming back.

What this page covers:

  • My four months: branching, three timelines and a bookshop
  • What the free plan and Premium used to include
  • Coins that never expired, and memory sizes stated openly
  • What the old pages said about keeping your images and videos
  • Which live apps come closest now

Everything about plans below is historical, mostly from an archived pricing page dated 2025-11-26. If you liked the character-first style, my CrushOn AI review covers a character app that is still running.

What the RPRP AI free plan used to give

I went straight to Premium, so the free plan is something I know from the archived pricing page, not from my own evenings. It was modest but real: limited chats on the RP Lite model with 4k memory, one private chatbot of your own, and 5 coins once. At busy times, free users waited in a queue.

I respect that kind of free plan more than a flashy one. It told you exactly what you got: a smaller model, a queue at peak, one character you could build. The 5 coins were a token gesture, enough to glimpse the media side and no more.

Nothing is free today, simply because nothing runs anymore. The RPRP AI at a glance box right after this reflects that: no platforms listed, no free tier and a closed status. Don't expect to sign up if you land on the site.

If you want a live companion app whose company, billing name and refund window are all on file, my Candy AI review is a straightforward place to start. It's a different style, more companion than character hub, but nothing about it is a mystery.

  2. Used chat branching to run three parallel timelines

  3. Test ended after four months; chats were exported, and the service later shut down

How I check the apps

Chat branching: why RPRP AI roleplay stuck with me

The branching is why my notes call this one "the branching one". Chat branching let me rewind a conversation and run parallel timelines, a choose-your-own-adventure engine. I grew up on exactly those books, so naturally, in February 2025, I ran three timelines of the same romance like a completionist with a library card.

Comparing them was half the fun. In one timeline she forgave me. In another she did not. In the third we opened a bookshop together. The bookshop is canon, I decided, as a woman decides things: unilaterally and at night.

I think that's the best argument for branching I can give you. Most companion apps give you one line of story, and a bad reply either stays or gets deleted. Here, a bad reply became a fork worth exploring.

Memory was tied to the model. Free users got RP Lite with 4k memory. Premium opened the RP Swift model, also at 4k, and a beta RP Flash model with 8k memory. I like that the app named its models and memory sizes openly, since "better memory" on its own tells you nothing.

Premium also listed the ability to use the OpenRouter API, a rare perk for tinkerers who wanted a different model in their roleplay. I'd love to see more apps copy that.

Voice was the weak spot. There were voice messages but no AI phone calls, and other reviewers report that the voice messages sounded unnatural, while image generation was fast, about 13 seconds, and accurate.

Because this app is closed, part of this review leans on an archived page. My page on how I check the apps explains how I read official pages and archives like that one.

18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.

RPRP AI content level and character building

RPRP AI allowed adult content. The archived pricing page listed adult image and video generation as a feature paid for with coins, and chat was open at the same level. There was no separate adult tier in the plan list: coins were the gate for media, not the subscription.

I liked that structure. Text roleplay didn't need a special tier, and you paid extra only when you wanted pictures or video. It's a fairer model than apps that lock everything behind the most expensive plan.

What I can't tell you is how the content settings worked in detail. My notes are about branching, not menus, and the archived pages don't name a toggle, a filter menu or an age check method. So I won't describe one. If you're choosing a replacement, pick an app that states its content rules and its entry check clearly.

Character building was friendly. The free plan let you create one private chatbot, and Premium opened custom chatbots without that cap. That suits anyone who prefers writing their own characters to picking from a shared library.

The archived pages don't describe builder options such as gender or appearance settings, so I can't say how inclusive the defaults were. A free-form chatbot you write yourself does leave room for whoever you want.

Coins deserve one more mention here, because they are part of why the content model felt fair. Each month Premium added 100 coins, and they never expired, so media you didn't need this month was still there next month.

All of this is history now. For the same mix of adult roleplay and character building in an app that still answers, my full list of app reviews shows which live apps publish their rules.

What RPRP AI cost when it ran

There were two Premium options. The monthly plan was $9.99, a price recorded in early 2025. The yearly plan was $60.00, so $5.00 a month on average, and that's the one I paid for in January 2025. Neither can be bought now.

The yearly price was the standout. Twelve months at $9.99 comes to $119.88, so the yearly plan cost $59.88 less, roughly half. Even allowing that the two prices were recorded at different times, that's an unusually steep discount.

Coins were the other half of the model. Every Premium month brought 100 coins, and according to the archived page, they never expired. Over a year, that's 1,200 coins that could pile up. I really like a rule like that.

Most apps let unused credits vanish at the end of the month, and "never expires" treats your money with respect.

What coins cost per image or video is not on record, and no coin packs were published. Payment went by card or crypto.

Was RPRP AI worth paying for?

For me, yes. At $5 a month it was cheap for that much power: branching, the better models, the larger 8k memory option, unlimited custom chatbots, OpenRouter API access and coins that kept. That's a lot for the price, and it's also why the closing felt quieter and stranger than a pricier app's would have.

The gaps were real. There were no voice calls, the voice messages were reported as unnatural, and memory topped out at 8k. I'd still have picked the yearly plan over monthly every time.

One honest caveat about value. I paid $60 for a year and used it for four months, so what counted for me was the price of the first months, not the full twelve. With a yearly plan, you're betting on the app as much as on your own habits, and here the app was the part that ended.

Now the question is moot, because there's nothing left to pay for. If you want a similar character-led experience, my list of the best AI chat character apps ranks the live ones. Judge any replacement by what RPRP AI did well: open model names, clear memory sizes and credits that don't expire.

The closest alternative I would suggest

The card above points to the old RPRP AI site. The service is closed, so the link is there for reference, not for signing up. I'd go straight to a live app.

If RPRP AI was your app too, these are the questions I'd put to any replacement:

  • Can you rewind a chat and branch it, or is there only one line of story?
  • Does it state its memory size or model, the way RPRP AI named its 4k and 8k models?
  • Do unused credits roll over, or expire each month?
  • Can you export your chats, so a closure doesn't take them with it?
  • Does it offer real voice calls rather than voice messages only?

Very few apps tick every box. OurDream AI comes close on a couple: it allows adult content on every plan and lists group chat, which RPRP AI's pages never mentioned. Its catch: if you don't subscribe, every message you send uses up 1 dreamcoin. My OurDream AI review spells out its coin rules.

My view: former RPRP AI users will care most about roleplay depth, fair credits and a way to take their stories with them, so weigh those above everything else.

The good and bad of RPRP AI

What went well

  • Chat branching let me rewind and run parallel timelines
  • The yearly plan was $5.00 a month, about half the monthly price
  • Premium coins never expired, per the archived pricing page
  • Memory sizes were stated openly, 4k and 8k
  • Chats could be exported, which saved mine

What fell short

  • The service is closed, so you cannot sign up
  • No voice calls, and voice messages were described as unnatural
  • Billing name, cancel path and refund rule were never on record
  • Free users queued at peak times

What if you were subscribed to RPRP AI?

The cancel path, renewal terms and refund rule were never published anywhere on record, and the name on card statements is unknown. With the service closed, that leaves former subscribers with few clear answers, and I won't pretend otherwise.

My practical advice: look at your card or crypto payment history for any renewal after the closure, and contact your card issuer if you see one you didn't expect. Keep any receipts you have, since there's no published support route to send them to.

What happened to your RPRP AI chats and images?

My four months ended in April 2025. The service shut down later, without ceremony, and all three of my timelines ended the same way, which is this genre's most reliable plot. I kept the exports, because of course I did, and that habit still pays its quiet dividends.

That's my strongest advice for any app: export what matters while you can. The only data rule on record is that generated images and videos would be kept for six months. Nothing covers chat history, deletion on request or whether chats trained models, and what happens to stored data after a closure is not published. If you shared anything personal, assume it may still exist somewhere.

Was RPRP AI legit?

It was a real service, launched in 2024, with published plans and an archived pricing page, and it took my $60 for the yearly plan. What was missing throughout was a named company and a country. That's the detail I'd want for any app that takes card or crypto, and its absence is part of why a closure leaves users with so little to go on.

My broader lesson: before you pay any app, find out who runs it and whether you can export your chats. An app with a named company, a published refund rule and a clear billing name gives you somewhere to turn if it closes. If adult roleplay without a strict filter is what you want next, my uncensored AI app rankings list live options with their content rules.

Final word on RPRP AI

Final score

5.3/10

Uneven

RPRP was branching roleplay at a bargain, and then it closed; a lesson in keeping exports of anything you care about.

Used hands-on with a paid plan

  • Across three parallel timelines of one romance, the story stayed worth comparing, bookshop ending included.
  • The archived plans listed small context windows on every tier.
  • Chat branching let me rewind and fork scenes, and paid plans allowed outside models.
  • Images and video cost coins, and one reviewer called the voice messages unnatural.
  • At $5 a month it was cheap for that much power, until the service shut down.
  • Now that the service is gone, its privacy terms cannot be verified.
  • It shut down without ceremony; my exports are all that is left.

Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria, and every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps

My verdict: RPRP AI was worth it for roleplay fans who love a branching story, and today everyone should skip it, because the service is closed. For four months in early 2025 it was the branching one for me: three timelines of one romance, one of them ending in a bookshop I still count as canon.

If it were open, the plan I'd buy again is Premium yearly at $60.00, for $5 a month, branching, the 8k memory option and coins that never expired. What bothers me most, looking back, is how little was ever published about the company, billing and refunds. That's exactly what leaves former users stuck now. Skip any replacement that won't let you export your chats.

Live apps to use instead of RPRP AI

Since RPRP AI can't be used, the question is which open app suits you best. These are the ones I'd put in front of a former user:

  • OurDream AI for adult roleplay on every plan, group chat and a character builder; Standard Monthly is $19.99 with 1,000 dreamcoins a month
  • Nomi AI for memory and a free plan that lasts: 50 messages a day and 2 images a day, plus up to 10 active group chats on paid plans
  • Candy AI for realistic images and voice calls, with a 12-Month Plan at €47.88 and a 24-hour refund window for buyers outside the EU and UK
  • GirlfriendGPT if you like earning free messages daily, starting you on 20 bonus messages, then adding 10 a day via Daily Login

My first suggestion for someone leaving RPRP AI is OurDream AI. It keeps adult content open on every plan and adds group chat, which suits roleplay. The catch is price: $19.99 a month is about four times the $5 a month I paid on the RPRP AI yearly plan.

If memory matters more than media, Nomi AI is the one I'd lean toward. Its free plan is permanent, which feels reassuring after watching an app disappear. None of these lists chat branching on file, so if that was your favourite part, expect to miss it.

If the character hub side was the draw, my SpicyChat review is worth reading, since that's the kind of app RPRP AI most resembled.

Instead of RPRP AI

The next three apps I would open, and the reason.

These three cards are the live apps I'd weigh first. OurDream AI is my choice for roleplay with adult content on every plan. Nomi AI suits you better if a remembered conversation matters more than pictures, and its free plan does not expire. Candy AI is the one for realistic images and voice calls, which RPRP AI never offered.

Whichever you choose, start on the free tier where there is one, keep your first purchase short, and export your favourite chats now and then. That habit is the reason my three timelines still exist.

RPRP AI questions, answered

Is RPRP AI still working?

No. RPRP AI is listed as closed, and its last pricing notes describe the service as paused. You cannot sign up or chat today, and nothing published says when or whether it will return. I used it from January to April 2025, and it shut down later without ceremony.

How much did RPRP AI cost?

Premium was $9.99 a month, a price recorded in early 2025, or $60.00 a year, which is $5.00 a month. I paid for the yearly plan in January 2025. Premium included 100 coins a month that never expired, used for image and video generation.

What was chat branching on RPRP AI?

It let you rewind a chat and run parallel timelines from the same point, like a choose-your-own-adventure book. In February 2025 I ran three timelines of the same romance: in one she forgave me, in one she did not, and in one we opened a bookshop together.

Did RPRP AI have a free plan?

It did while it ran. The archived pricing page lists limited chats on the RP Lite model with 4k memory, a queue at peak times, one private chatbot and 5 coins once. There is no free plan now because the service is closed.

Can I get my RPRP AI chats back?

Nothing on record describes a way to recover chats after the closure. I exported mine while I was using it, and those exports are all I have now. The only data rule on file says generated images and videos would be kept for six months.

What is the best RPRP AI alternative?

For adult roleplay on every plan and group chat, I'd pick OurDream AI. For memory and a permanent free plan with 50 messages a day, Nomi AI. For realistic images and voice calls, Candy AI. None of them lists chat branching on file.
