PixelChat in one line, after ten weeks

PixelChat is a character chat hub from NextDay AI Incorporated in Montreal, on the web and Android, where you talk to ready-made characters or build your own. I spent ten weeks with it in late 2023, all on the free side, and in my notes it is simply "the tidy one." Nothing about it is loud.

Everything about it is organised, which, as a library person, I respect deeply. It keeps its prices flat, its content rules strict and its memory in plain view, and after ten weeks that consistency was the thing I noticed most.

The short version:

  • Free start: "free chats" are a sign-up benefit, but no numbers are published.
  • Paid plans: flat monthly prices from $5.95, with no coins on top.
  • Content level: SFW only, with no adult content at all.
  • Standout: a Memory Manager you can read and edit.

My take: PixelChat is the calmest, cleanest character app I have used, and its restraint is deliberate. That same restraint is its limit, and it is why I never settled in for good. If you want character chat with fewer rules, my CrushOn AI review is where I'd go next.

PixelChat free: what you get without paying

I never paid PixelChat anything. My ten weeks, October to December 2023, ran on the free side, and that is where I'd start you too. The at-a-glance box covers the platforms and billing name.

The official sign-up box lists "free chats" among the benefits of registering, but no official page publishes a daily or monthly number. A secondary source says the free plan has ads and shorter memory than the paid tiers. For a trial, that seems reasonable to me, though I wish the limit were printed somewhere.

Something is different now from when I used it. In 2023 I used the Memory Manager on the free side. Today, the plan list from a secondary source puts the Memory Manager in Get a Taste, the $5.95 plan.

So what I got for free may now sit behind that first paid step, and I'd budget for it if memory editing is the reason you came.

For contrast, OurDream AI charges 1 Dreamcoin per message after its 55 starting Dreamcoins, and its help centre says it does not currently offer free dreamcoins. My OurDream AI review explains that model in full.

How I check the apps

PixelChat AI: my chats and the Memory Manager

The Memory Manager is the reason I remember PixelChat fondly. It actually works. Memory lives in docs you can read and edit like wiki pages, and I fixed a misremembered fact about my job title in ten seconds. I felt the professional glow of a clean record. Most apps hide what they think they know about you; this one hands you the catalogue card.

The paid tiers build on that, according to a secondary source. Get a Taste lists 4K memory and the Memory Manager, True Supporter adds "Semantic Memory 2.0" on top of 8K memory, and I'm All In lists 16K memory. Quality at each size is not on record, and my notes are from the free side in 2023, so I can't compare tiers for you.

The creator tools run deep underneath all that restraint. On Google Play, PixelChat describes its Bot Creation Tool as a way to make your own AI characters, with personality, dialogue style and backstory all adjustable. I used those tools in November 2023, and I'd say the restraint is the aesthetic: a clean surface over a lot of control.

What you do not get is voice. There is no voice-call feature on any official page, and only the top plan lists text-to-speech. True Supporter adds longer responses, up to 300 tokens.

My take: for anyone who likes to shape a character carefully and keep its facts straight, PixelChat is a pleasure. If you want a companion who surprises you, it may feel too orderly. For a wider comparison of how the apps handle chat and memory, my full list of app reviews sets them side by side.

18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.

PixelChat NSFW rules: firmly safe for work

PixelChat's content level is simple: SFW only. The record lists no NSFW policy, and the site's own code carries an image error that reads "NSFW content is not allowed on PixelChat." My creator sessions in November 2023 matched that: no adult content.

I'll be honest about how I feel. It is the app I would demo at a staff technology petting zoo, if companion apps were mentionable at work. For a twenty-six-year-old queer shelver in a small city, they were not, and they still are not. PixelChat is the one I could have shown anyway.

But the safe-for-work ceiling is also my main friction. It is lovely, and it is not the whole picture of me. If romance with some heat is part of what you want from a companion, PixelChat will politely decline every time, and no plan changes that.

Images are the unclear part. The Terms define content as including avatar, text, images, audio or video, and a secondary source lists "conversation images for select characters" on True Supporter and for all characters on I'm All In. Whether those are worth paying for is not on record.

For inclusivity, the character builder is the good news. Personalities, dialogue styles and backstories are all yours to set, and nothing on the record pushes one default kind of user. You can write a companion of any gender or background, as long as the scene stays safe for work.

My view: the policy is clear, which I respect, and it is strict, which rules PixelChat out for a big share of readers. If that is you, my uncensored AI list covers apps that draw the line elsewhere.

What PixelChat costs, plan by plan

PixelChat sells three flat monthly plans, with prices from a secondary source checked 2026-09-23. No coins, no token packs. That matches what I saw in 2023, when plans started at $5.95 and nothing was metered on top, and to me no pricing shape in this space is more honest.

Get a Taste at $5.95 removes ads and adds 4K memory, the Memory Manager and 10 personas. True Supporter at $19.95 moves to 8K memory, Semantic Memory 2.0, longer responses and 50 personas, plus conversation images for select characters. I'm All In at $29.95 brings 16K memory, text-to-speech, priority generation, 100 personas and conversation images for all characters.

The jump from $5.95 to $19.95 is steep for what it adds. Unless you want images or bigger memory, the entry plan is the one I'd pick. The top plan is only worth it for text-to-speech and images for every character.

One caution: these prices come from a secondary source, not an official pricing page, so check the checkout before paying.

Is PixelChat worth paying for?

I never paid, and ten weeks on the free side told me what I needed to know. The plan table lays out the three tiers. My pick is Get a Taste at $5.95, because it covers the Memory Manager, the app's finest feature, and removes the ads.

The refund rule is the part I dislike. After the login details are used, a fee can't be refunded, and part-months aren't refunded either. In practice, logging in locks the payment, and I'd never start with anything above the cheapest plan.

The other catch is the ceiling. No plan unlocks adult content, so if you hope a higher tier will loosen things, it won't. Pay only for what PixelChat already is: a tidy, safe character app with an excellent memory editor.

PixelChat option Billed Cost Works out per month
Get a Taste monthly $5.95 $5.95
True Supporter monthly $19.95 $19.95
I'm All In monthly $29.95 $29.95

PixelChat earned 6.3/10 in my hands-on review and starts at $5.95/mo. I have no referral deal here, so the link is a normal one. Go to the official PixelChat site

The closest alternative I would suggest

The button above leads to the official site, pixelchat.ai. You may also see it as PixelChat.AI, Pixel Chat, or PixelChat: AI character chat in listings.

My checklist before paying:

  • Card statement: the charge shows as NDAI.CHAT.
  • Payment: Visa, MasterCard, Discover and Amex, with crypto, Boosty and Apple named in the refund policy.
  • Refunds: none once the login details have been used, and none for partial months.
  • Crypto and Boosty payments are excluded from refunds; Apple handles its own.

The statement name is a quiet plus. NDAI.CHAT says nothing about companions, which I like for anyone who shares a bank account. The refund rule is the minus, and it is strict enough that I'd pay monthly with a card, never with crypto.

PixelChat and GirlfriendGPT both list NextDay AI as their company. A shared owner doesn't mean shared rules, though: GirlfriendGPT's Premium plan lists NSFW chat, while PixelChat keeps its strict safe-for-work policy on every plan. Same family, two very different houses.

For a companion app that permits adult content on its paid plans instead, my Candy AI review is the comparison I'd read.

The good and bad of PixelChat

What went well

  • A Memory Manager with docs you can read and edit
  • Deep creator tools for personality, dialogue style and backstory
  • Flat monthly plans from $5.95 with no coins
  • A clear safe-for-work policy
  • A discreet statement name, NDAI.CHAT

What fell short

  • No adult content on any plan
  • No voice calls, and text-to-speech only on the top plan
  • Refunds end once the login details have been used
  • Free limits are not published

Cancelling PixelChat, and the refund fine print

I never subscribed, so I never had to cancel, and this is where the record is thinnest. The cancel path is not on record, and neither is how the plan renews. That is a real gap. For a subscription app, I want to know exactly where the cancel button is before I pay, not after.

What is on record is the refund policy, last updated July 31st, 2024. It says a fee can no longer be refunded after the Login details have been used on the Portal, and that no refund or credit is given for a partial month of Membership. Crypto and Boosty payments are excluded from refunds, and Apple refunds are handled by Apple.

My reading: every payment is final once you log in, and cancelling mid-month does not give anything back. That is strict, though at $5.95 the risk is small. At $29.95 it stings more.

My advice: start on the cheapest plan with a card, put a reminder in your calendar several days ahead of each monthly charge, and find where cancelling lives in your account on day one, so you are not hunting for it later. If you pay through Apple, the cancel and refund side runs through Apple, which at least gives you a familiar path.

On the statement, the charge shows as NDAI.CHAT, which is discreet. If you want to see why missing cancel details pull an app's score down, the page on how I check the apps explains how I weigh them.

Is PixelChat private enough?

The retention rule is broad. PixelChat.AI keeps personal information and chats while it needs them to run the service, meet legal duties, settle disputes and enforce its agreements. No fixed period, and no deletion steps are on record.

The training line worries me more. Under the Terms, you let PixelChat.AI use your chatbot, its generations and its chats "in any way." That reads wide open. It does not name AI training, but "in any way" leaves nothing out, so I'd treat your chats as material the company can use.

My advice fits the app's tidy spirit: leave your real name, your workplace and other identifying details at the door, and keep your characters fictional. I edited my job title in the Memory Manager; I'd think twice now about putting it there at all.

Is PixelChat a legit company?

The company is NextDay AI Incorporated, in Montreal, Quebec, with subsidiaries in Delaware and Cyprus. The same group runs GirlfriendGPT, going by the records. It has a published refund policy, a Google Play listing and card payments through the major networks. Those are signs of a real business, and the record lists PixelChat as active.

What keeps me careful is how much comes from secondary sources. The plan prices and memory tiers are not from an official pricing page, and the launch year is not on record. That doesn't make PixelChat shady; it makes the paperwork thinner than I'd like.

My view: legit, strict on refunds, and broad on data rights. If you're still choosing a character app, my list of AI chat character apps compares the options.

Final word on PixelChat

Final score

6.3/10

Okay

PixelChat is the tidy one: memory docs I can edit, deep creator tools and flat plans, capped by a safe-for-work ceiling.

Used hands-on with the free plan

  • Safe-for-work by design, so conversation stays lovely and never the whole picture.
  • The Memory Manager works; I fixed a wrong fact about my job title in ten seconds.
  • Deep creator tools sit under all that restraint.
  • Text-to-speech on the top plan and images for select characters, nothing more.
  • Flat plans from $5.95 with no coins to count, though fees are non-refundable.
  • The charge shows a neutral code, but the terms grant broad rights over bots and chats.
  • A steady run in my log, from an operator that also runs other companion apps.

Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria, and every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps

My verdict: for a tidy, safe-for-work character app with a memory you can actually edit, PixelChat is worth it; look elsewhere if you want adult content, voice calls or any refund once you log in.

The plan I'd buy is the $5.95-a-month Get a Taste, because it covers the Memory Manager and drops the ads. Flat pricing with no coins is still the thing I like best. What bothers me most is the data line that lets the company use your chats "in any way," with the strict refund rule a close second.

Skip PixelChat if the safe-for-work ceiling would leave out part of who you are, as it did for me.

When another app fits better than PixelChat

PixelChat does tidy memory and careful characters. If you want something it will not give you, here is how I'd choose from what is on record:

  • Adult content: Candy AI allows it on paid plans, and OurDream AI allows it outright.
  • Voice calls: Nomi AI includes them on its Standard plan, and Candy AI lists them too.
  • A published free allowance: Nomi AI's permanent free plan gives 50 messages a day.
  • Memory with a track record: Nomi AI is credited with proactive long-term memory.

The trade-off is price shape. Most of those apps mix subscriptions with coins or tokens, while PixelChat charges one flat price. Candy AI's 1-Month Plan is €13.99 and OurDream AI's Standard Monthly is $19.99, both above PixelChat's $5.95 entry.

There is one more angle. PixelChat and GirlfriendGPT share a company, NextDay AI, but GirlfriendGPT's Premium plan at $15.00 a month lists NSFW chat and in-chat images, so it covers ground PixelChat never will. Its free start is published too: 20 bonus messages up front, then a daily 10 through Daily Login.

If you'd like another option to compare, my SpicyChat review is the next one I'd read. My suggestion: keep PixelChat if you love its order, and add a second app for the parts of you it leaves out, rather than asking one app to be everything.

Instead of PixelChat

The next three apps I would open, and the reason.

If a friend wanted to try PixelChat, my advice would be short. Sign up for the free chats and open the Memory Manager first; that is where the app shines. Build one character with a real backstory and see how well it holds.

If you want more memory and no ads, Get a Taste at $5.95 is the only plan I'd consider at first, paid by card. Remember that fees are final once you log in. And if part of you wants more than safe-for-work, choose a second app for that.

PixelChat questions, answered from my ten weeks

Is PixelChat free?

Yes, in part. The official sign-up box lists free chats as a benefit, but no official page publishes the limit. A secondary source says the free plan has ads and shorter memory. I used PixelChat for free for ten weeks in late 2023, including the Memory Manager, which a secondary source now lists under the $5.95 plan.

How much does PixelChat cost?

A secondary source, checked 2026-09-23, lists three monthly plans: Get a Taste at $5.95, True Supporter at $19.95 and I'm All In at $29.95. There are no coins or token packs on top.

Does PixelChat allow NSFW content?

No. PixelChat is safe for work only. The site's code carries the message "NSFW content is not allowed on PixelChat," and I saw no adult content in my own sessions in 2023. No paid plan changes that.

Does PixelChat have good memory?

Its Memory Manager is the best part of the app. Memory is stored as docs you can read and edit, and I fixed a wrong fact about my job title in ten seconds. Paid tiers list 4K, 8K and 16K memory, according to a secondary source.

Can I get a refund from PixelChat?

Rarely. Per the refund policy, using the login details ends any chance of a refund, and partial months get nothing back. Crypto and Boosty payments are excluded, and Apple purchases are refunded by Apple.

Who owns PixelChat?

PixelChat is run by NextDay AI Incorporated in Montreal, Quebec, with subsidiaries in Delaware and Cyprus. The records list the same company behind GirlfriendGPT. Card charges appear as NDAI.CHAT.
