What is Joyland AI, and who is it for?

Joyland AI is a character and roleplay chat app from MINDZEN PTE.LTD. in Singapore, which describes itself as a home for anime companions and AI roleplay, and runs in a browser plus iOS and Android apps. I spent three weeks on it in the new year of 2024, on the free plan, and never upgraded. My short take: nothing has been more fun for putting a crowd of characters into one scene, and nothing has forgotten that scene faster once it runs long.

The facts I'd want before I try Joyland AI:

  • A free plan exists, with ads, 10 free credits a day and up to 3 personas.
  • Unlimited text chat starts with Standard at $9.99 a month.
  • Adult content is allowed, though the help centre encourages SFW content.
  • There are no live voice calls, only voice messages.
  • All fees are non-refundable.

Who is it for? Readers who like anime characters, big casts and trying on different versions of themselves, and who don't mind reminding a character what happened. If you want a single companion to keep you in mind for months without paying much, look elsewhere.

If free chat with a stronger adult focus is the goal, set this page beside my SpicyChat review.

The free plan: what you actually get

I stayed free for all three weeks and never upgraded. Free accounts get as many as 3 personas, so roleplaying my bus-riding self cost nothing.

Today the free plan lists Free Model chat, the Roleplay model, a time-limited run of Flow Mode, the first Novel chapters, ads, and 10 free credits a day. Image messages and the bot gallery unlock with credits. The daily message count is not published, and a short check on 2026-09-23 hit no cap on the Free Model.

Quick math on images: an in-chat picture costs 30 credits, so 10 free credits a day means three days of saving for one. That's fine for a treat, not a habit. Memory on free is the other limit, since it only covers the current conversation.

Plans and billing are summed up in the at-a-glance box, with my dated notes in the test log underneath. For a fixed coin balance instead of a daily drip, OurDream AI's starting coins work out to 55 messages, though its help centre says free dreamcoins aren't on offer right now.

How I check the apps

Flow Mode, memory and the book club problem

Then there is Flow Mode, which lets several characters share one scene. I assembled a bot book club, gave them a novel to argue about and lurked like a moderator. No app has ever come closer to my actual job description. For anime AI chat on Joyland, this is the reason to open the app at all.

Here's the friction. Multi-character scenes lose the thread around turn four, like a book club after the wine. Even my patience, professionally certified, had limits. Note that Joyland AI does not list group chat as a feature, and outside reviews call it one-on-one, so Flow Mode is the multi-character tool, with its limits.

Today the free plan lists Flow Mode "for a limited time", while I had it through my three free weeks.

Memory is tiered by plan. Free keeps context within the current conversation only. Standard carries short-term memory from one session to the next, and Premium promises long-term memory across weeks and months. Other reviewers saw memory fall apart after 5-20 messages, Premium included, and another says it drifts on long chats, better on Premium but never fully reliable. That fits what I saw in scenes with a crowd.

My advice: keep casts small, restate the key facts every few turns, and treat long scenes as short chapters. If you want to continue chatting on Joyland AI across days with the same character, Standard is the minimum, and Premium is the only plan that even claims long memory. If the content side matters more to you than the cast, see my picks for uncensored AI chat.

18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.

Does Joyland AI allow NSFW?

Yes, by policy, with a nudge the other way. Joyland AI's content policy allows adult content, but the help centre says: "For the best experience, we encourage the use of SFW content. NSFW content may reduce your chances of being featured on the homepage."

So a Joyland AI NSFW chatbot can exist, but creators are steered toward SFW if they want to be seen. I like the honesty. I also read it as a sign that the app's heart is anime roleplay, not adult chat.

For me, the inclusive part is where Joyland does well. Personas let you decide who you are in the story, 3 on free, 20 on Standard and 50 on Premium. You can make an AI chat character on Joyland with "Create bot" and an Advanced Create mode, and you can import JSON or PNG character cards. That import is a real plus if you already keep characters elsewhere.

Voice is limited. There are no live two-way calls, just text-to-speech voice messages, plus a Toolkit to train a custom voice pack for a character. Video generation is not listed at all.

On images, Joyland AI images cost credits: 25 for an avatar, 30 for an in-chat picture, or 500 credits to unlock unlimited generation with one companion for good. That last one is the smart buy if you settle on a favourite, since it costs the same as 20 avatar images at 25 credits and then stops costing anything with her.

Languages on the App Store listing include Spanish, Korean, English, Simplified Chinese, French and Japanese, which is a wide welcome. More cast-first apps are in my roundup of character chat apps.

Who Joyland AI suits

Great for

  • Readers who love anime characters and big casts
  • Anyone who likes trying on different personas in a story
  • People who already keep character cards and want to import them
  • Budget readers who want a free plan they can live on for weeks

Skip if

  • Anyone who needs a character to remember them across weeks on a budget
  • Anyone hoping for real-time voice calls
  • Readers who want long scenes with many characters to stay on track
  • Anyone who might need a refund

Standard or Premium: my pick

I never upgraded, so no receipt here, just my view of the price list. In my notes the upgrade price was $4.58 a month, which felt thematically correct for a bus-riding persona, if I ever upgraded. I did not. The price is the same today: Standard on the yearly plan, billed $55 once a year.

The $9.99 Standard month is where I'd begin. It removes ads, makes text conversations unlimited, adds short-term memory across sessions, raises personas to 20, and gives 5,000 monthly credits with 20 image messages a day. For most readers, that covers the actual complaints about the free plan.

Premium, $19.99 monthly, buys the memory promise plus unlimited credits, images and custom packs. If other reviewers are right that memory can still give out after 5-20 messages on Premium, I wouldn't pay double for that alone. I'd buy it only if you are an image-heavy user.

My advice on term: try one month of Standard first. All fees are non-refundable, so the annual price is only a bargain once you know you'll stay.

Is Joyland AI worth paying for?

For my kind of use, no: three weeks of personas and Flow Mode scenes cost me $0, and the free plan still gives you the Roleplay model and a daily credit drip. Start free and see whether the cast grabs you.

Standard becomes worth it when ads or the lack of cross-session memory start to annoy you. At $9.99 a month, or $4.58 a month on the yearly plan, the Joyland AI pricing is low for what you get. Premium is harder to justify on memory alone, because the promise and the reports don't agree yet.

What I don't like is paying anything without a refund path. Since fees are non-refundable, start with the shortest term. Every term, monthly and yearly, is in the plan table here.

Joyland AI option Billed Cost Works out per month
Standard Plan (Monthly) monthly $9.99 $9.99
Standard Plan (Annual) yearly $55.00 $4.58
Premium Plan (Monthly) monthly $19.99 $19.99
Premium Plan (Annual) yearly $95.00 $7.92

The closest alternative I would suggest

Credits are Joyland's currency for everything beyond text, so here is the short guide before you spend them:

  • Avatar image: 25 credits.
  • In-chat image: 30 credits.
  • Unlimited images with one companion forever: 500 credits.
  • Free plan: 10 credits a day. Standard: 5,000 a month. Premium: unlimited.

My reading: on Standard, 5,000 credits buys 166 in-chat images at 30 each, though the plan also caps image messages at 20 a day. That is plenty for an illustrated story. The 500-credit unlock is the clever one, because 10 of them fit in one Standard month, so you could lock in unlimited pictures with ten favourites.

What bothers me is that the per-message credit cost for the free plan's limited model trials is not published anywhere official. Standard and Premium list unlimited text, so this only matters on free, but I'd still like a number.

If you'd rather pay one flat plan for chat and handle media with tokens, my Candy AI review shows how that model works. There, €13.99 monthly includes 100 tokens, which is a different trade-off.

The good and bad of Joyland AI

What went well

  • A free plan with 10 credits a day and up to 3 personas
  • Flow Mode lets several characters share one scene
  • Imports JSON and PNG character cards
  • Standard yearly works out to $4.58 a month
  • Available on the web, iOS and Android

What fell short

  • Multi-character scenes lost the thread around turn four in my use
  • Memory on free covers only the current conversation
  • All fees are non-refundable, with no partial refunds
  • No live voice calls, only voice messages

Cancelling, and the refund rule

No subscription on my side meant no cancelling to report. Here is what the official pages say, and it is thinner than I'd like, so read it as the official line plus one older outside guide rather than steps I have walked through myself.

Cancel ahead of the coming billing period, or you are charged again. Officially, cancellation happens only through the payment partner or platform where you bought the subscription, and the help centre offers no step-by-step guide. An older outside guide describes an in-app path of Settings, Manage Subscription, Unsubscribe, Confirm, but that is not official, so check it against your own Joyland AI account before relying on it.

The refund rule is blunt. The Terms make every fee non-refundable as far as the law allows, and partial months or years are never paid back. I don't love that, especially on a yearly plan. It is the main reason I'd pay monthly first.

What Joyland's charge looks like on a card statement isn't on file, so discretion stays an open question. An in-app purchase goes through the platform you bought it on, which is also where you would cancel.

My practical advice: write down the day you subscribe and the platform you used, and cancel well ahead of renewal if in doubt. To compare cancel paths across apps, browse every review on this site.

How safe are your chats?

Is Joyland AI safe? It is middling on paper. There is no explicit statement that your chats train their AI. The closest line says your dialogue might be reduced to "anonymous numbers and graphs" and shared in non-profit academic cooperation with certified institutions, conferences and journals. I'd rather it said plainly what that means for my chats.

Retention is open-ended. The Terms say Joyland may set limits on "the maximum period of time that data or other content will be retained", but no fixed period is stated. On the plus side, account deletion is simple on paper: "you can use the delete account function on the Setting page."

One outside reviewer rates Joyland 3.2 out of 5 on safety and calls its data sharing liberal. I can't confirm that either way, but it's reason enough to leave your real name, workplace and other details out of your personas and chats.

If privacy is your main filter, hold this up against my CrushOn AI review before choosing where your evenings go.

What users elsewhere think of Joyland AI

confirmed

I give it 5.6/10.

Joyland AI reviews and who runs it

On the App Store, 108 ratings average 2.75 out of 5, checked on 2026-09-22. Google Play shows 100K+ downloads but no rating in its crawlable page, and one outside review says the Android score dropped to about 2.4-2.5 from roughly 3.9 in 2025, with memory and billing complaints. That matches my own memory gripe.

The company is MINDZEN PTE.LTD. at Duo Tower, 3 Fraser Street, Singapore. The iOS seller shows as ELDORIA PTE. LTD., with no official explanation. It looks legit, just untidy.

Final word on Joyland AI

Final score

5.6/10

Uneven

Joyland is the best playground for multi-character scenes and free personas, but the memory cannot hold a crowd and the reviews have soured.

Used hands-on with the free plan

  • Flow Mode ran a bot book club for me, until the scenes lost the thread around turn four.
  • Free memory is limited to the current chat, and reviewers say even paid memory drifts.
  • Personas are free, card import works, and the advanced creator goes deep.
  • Images cost credits, and there are no calls or video.
  • The free tier carried me three weeks and the annual plan works out to $4.58 a month; refunds are refused.
  • Account deletion is in settings and data is not sold, though reviewers find the encryption claims vague.
  • Store ratings slid on memory and billing complaints, and the app store seller name does not match the terms.

Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria, and every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps

My verdict: Joyland AI is worth it for readers who love anime characters, personas and multi-character scenes on a free plan, and a skip if you need a companion who remembers you for weeks.

The plan I'd buy is Standard, one month at $9.99 first, then the yearly plan at $4.58 a month if you're staying. What bothers me most is memory: my Flow Mode scenes lost the thread around turn four, and outside reports say even Premium slips. Close behind is the flat no-refund rule.

Skip Joyland if you want live voice calls, reliable long memory, or a refund safety net. Try Joyland AI free first, and let the book club argue for a while before you pay.

The closest alternative I would suggest

Joyland AI alternatives worth a look

Joyland AI is best at casts and personas. Where memory, voice or a clearer bill matters more, I would compare these, each judged by its own plans:

  • A counted daily allowance: Nomi AI's free plan never expires and gives 50 messages a day, at up to 400 characters, with no ads. Group chats come with its paid plan.
  • Adult content plus coins: OurDream AI includes unlimited messages and 1,000 Dreamcoins monthly in its $19.99 Standard plan, and group chat is listed.
  • One polished companion: Candy AI keeps adult content for paid members, and text is unlimited on its €13.99 monthly plan.
  • A large message budget: for $15 a month, GirlfriendGPT Premium covers 5,000 messages.

My take: if the book club problem bothers you, Nomi AI's group chats are the first thing I'd try, since they are listed as a real feature. If price is the issue, nothing here beats Joyland's $4.58 a month on the yearly Standard plan, so I'd stay and live with the memory. And if you want voice, look for an app with voice calls on its plan page, which none of Joyland's plans offer.

The way I weigh an app's plans, policy and my own notes is laid out on how I check the apps.

Instead of Joyland AI

The next three apps I would open, and the reason.

Those three cards are the swaps I'd hand a Joyland AI reader. Nomi AI covers a daily free allowance, with group chats on its paid plan. For adult content, group chat and a monthly coin balance, OurDream AI is the match. Candy AI makes sense if you want a single polished companion and don't mind paying from the first month.

Open whichever fixes your biggest complaint with Joyland, be it memory, price or a cast that drifts, and read its refund rule before paying. If none fits, Joyland's free plan is still a good place to wait.

Joyland AI questions, answered

Is Joyland AI free?

Yes. The free plan includes Free Model chat, Flow Mode for a limited time, the Roleplay model, the first Novel chapters, up to 3 personas and 10 free credits a day, with ads. I spent three weeks on it in early 2024 without upgrading. The daily message count is not published, and a short check on 2026-09-23 hit no cap.

How much does Joyland AI cost?

Standard is $9.99 a month or $55 a year, which works out to $4.58 a month. Premium is $19.99 a month or $95 a year ($7.92 monthly). Standard gives unlimited text, 5,000 credits a month and short-term memory. Premium adds unlimited credits and long-term memory. All fees are non-refundable.

Does Joyland AI remember you?

It depends on the plan. Free remembers only the current conversation, Standard keeps short-term memory between sessions, and Premium promises long-term memory. In my three free weeks, multi-character scenes lost the thread around turn four. Outside reviews say memory can still collapse at 5-20 messages on Premium, so restate key facts often.

Does Joyland AI have voice calls?

No. Joyland offers text-to-speech voice messages and a Toolkit to train a custom voice pack for a character, but no live two-way voice calls. If calls matter to you, look for an app that lists voice calls on its plan page.

How do I cancel Joyland AI?

Officially, cancel through the payment partner or platform where you bought the plan, before the next billing period. The help centre has no step-by-step guide. An older outside guide mentions Settings, Manage Subscription, Unsubscribe, Confirm inside the app. Fees are non-refundable, with no refunds for partial periods.

Can I import my own characters?

Yes. Joyland AI supports "Create bot" with an Advanced Create mode and imports JSON or PNG character cards. Free users get up to 3 personas for themselves, Standard 20 and Premium 50, so you can bring a character in and decide who you are in the story too.

What is the Joyland AI official site?

You'll find it at joyland.ai, with apps for iOS and Android as well. The company behind it is MINDZEN PTE.LTD. in Singapore, while the iOS listing names ELDORIA PTE. LTD. as seller. Its App Store score was 2.75 out of 5 across 108 ratings when checked on 2026-09-22.
