ChatFAI in one line, after twelve days in August 2023

ChatFAI is a web-based character hub from Glaxosoft LLC, launched in 2023, where you chat and roleplay with famous, fictional or home-made AI characters. I spent twelve days on it in August 2023, on the free side only, and that was exactly long enough to test the premise. I have never once been tempted back.

My evenings went to a hard-boiled detective. I asked him to help draft a lost-and-found policy for the library, and he treated it like a case with no femme fatale and therefore no urgency. Funny, and a fair picture of the app: the characters have charm, the pacing does not.

What you should know before anything else:

  • Free start: small, reported at about 10-15 messages a day, and guest chat is reported too.
  • Paid entry: Basic from $9 a month.
  • Mature content: allowed, but only on paid plans.
  • Media: text only, with no image generation and no video.

My take: ChatFAI is fine for a curious week of character chat, not a companion you settle into for months. If you want pictures and video sitting next to the chat, my OurDream AI review covers an app built the other way round.

ChatFAI free: what the free side gives you

I never paid ChatFAI a cent. My twelve days in August 2023 ran entirely on the free side, and that is also where I'd tell you to start. The at-a-glance box sums up the basics; here is how I read them.

A secondary source dated 2026-03-23 puts the free allowance at roughly 10-15 messages daily. Treat that as a lead, not an official number. Guest chat without an account is reported as possible too, which I like: no email, no password, just a few lines with a character before you commit to anything.

Quick math: at 10-15 messages a day, you get a taste each evening, not a full scene. The gates are clear as well. Per a 2026-08-21 secondary source, you have to pay for mature content, for voice replies and for the complete character builder. The archived billing code also mentions free message credits for referring your friends. A bonus, not a plan.

My view: the free side is an audition, and an honest one. For contrast, Candy AI's Help Centre says a free user can send up to 5 messages in total, which makes ChatFAI's daily allowance look kind. My Candy AI review has the rest of that story.

How I check the apps

How ChatFAI characters actually talk

The library of characters is big, and that is the whole pitch: famous and fictional faces, ready to chat. My problem in August 2023 was speed. Replies ran slow enough that scenes lost momentum mid-page, and pacing matters in chat more than anyone admits.

The voices were the second problem. The moment a scene got complicated, the character voices wobbled, like a community-theater accent under pressure. That is the note that made me drop the app, and for a roleplay fan it should count above everything else.

To be fair, the outside picture is mixed rather than grim. One outlet says its reviewers could not easily derail the characters, who stayed in role. The same outlet likes the controls: you can edit, copy or regenerate a message right where it sits, and a counter lets you flip between versions.

For anyone who steers a scene by hand, that is genuinely useful, and I wish more apps had it.

The downside lines up with mine. Other reviewers report replies sliding into repetition and blandness once a chat passes roughly 8-10 messages, and a third source says long sessions sometimes bring shorter or more generic replies. My take: ChatFAI is at its best in short, simple exchanges and at its weakest in exactly the long, layered scenes a roleplay fan wants.

Memory is its own worry. Other reviewers report very weak conversation memory, with characters forgetting what was said a few messages earlier. In the archived billing code, memory reads "limited" for the cheapest paid tier and "unlimited" for Premium and Deluxe, but nothing says which tier those reports used, so that line alone wouldn't talk me into upgrading.

If you want to see how I weigh chat quality against price and privacy, the page on how I check the apps lays it out.

ChatFAI NSFW rules and the character builder

ChatFAI's policy allows mature content, but only on paid plans. Back in August 2023 the $9 tier was the one that unlocked adult chat, and third-party sources still list Basic from $9 a month in 2026. A 2026-08-21 secondary source adds that a subscription is also needed for voice replies and the complete builder.

Here is my problem with that. On the free side you cannot see how the app handles a mature scene at all, and the flaw I hit for free, voices slipping once a scene got complicated, is exactly what matters in a long spicy roleplay. So you pay $9 partly on trust. I'd rather know first.

The builder is the strongest part on paper. A secondary source lists a picture, an opening message, a bio that can run to 1,600 characters, visibility settings, voice training and knowledge sources. The archived billing code allows custom characters on every paid tier, up to 20 on the lowest one, with no cap on Premium or Deluxe.

For inclusivity, I like a long free-text bio. You can write a companion of any gender, personality or background, and nothing in the records says the app assumes one kind of user. No gender presets or appearance sliders are listed, and with no image generation on the platform, the written bio does the heavy lifting anyway.

Voice means voice messages, not live calls. On the lowest paid tier the archived code lists them as yearly plan only, while Premium and Deluxe include them.

My take: the builder is good enough that writers will enjoy it, and a paid-only gate is a fair business choice. The cost is that the free start tells you nothing about the content you might be paying for. You can compare how other apps gate their content in my full list of app reviews.

Who ChatFAI suits

Great for

  • Fans of famous and fictional characters who chat in short scenes
  • Writers who build detailed characters with long bios
  • Light users who like message packs that never expire
  • Developers curious about spending the same credits on API requests

Skip if

  • Anyone who needs a character to remember a long conversation
  • Readers who want quick replies in long, layered scenes
  • People who want images, video or live voice calls
  • Anyone who wants mature content without paying

ChatFAI prices, as far as they are on record

The pricing picture is patchy, and I'd rather say so plainly. Basic is $9 a month. That is what Basic cost in August 2023, and third-party sources list it from $9 a month in 2026, so the entry price looks steady. For Premium and Deluxe, no price is on record.

The archived billing code does show monthly message allowances: 1,500 on the lowest paid tier, 5,000 on Premium and unlimited on Deluxe. Each message uses 1 credit. Run out and you can buy more at $7 per 1,000, with a minimum of 1,000.

The archived page says those messages never expire and need no subscription, and the API spends the same credits.

Quick math: 1,500 messages a month is 50 a day over 30 days, which is plenty for evening chats. Against rivals, $9 is a low entry. Nomi AI's Standard Plan Monthly is $15.99, GirlfriendGPT's Premium is $15.00 and OurDream AI's Standard Monthly is $19.99. Those also cover things ChatFAI does not, such as images.

Is ChatFAI worth paying for?

My answer: I didn't pay, and after twelve days I had no reason to. The $9 tier would have unlocked adult chat, but slow replies and voices that wobbled in complicated scenes are not problems a paywall fixes. Those are the things I'd want sorted before handing over a card.

If you love short character scenes and can live with weak memory, Basic at $9 for 1,500 messages is a fair price, and I'd buy one month, not more. The $7 packs are the part I like best: 1,000 messages that never expire suit anyone who chats in bursts.

What would change my mind is current pricing for Premium and Deluxe, plus some sign the pacing has improved since 2023. Until then, I'd shop around first. My list of AI chat character apps groups the options by what they do well.

The closest alternative I would suggest

The button above leads to the official ChatFAI website, chatfai.com, which you may also see listed as "ChatFAI - Discover AI Characters." That is the address I'd use for signing up, rather than any lookalike.

Before you pay anything, here is my short checklist:

  • Payment is by card through Stripe checkout.
  • A Stripe customer portal is where you manage the plan.
  • No refund rule is on record, so plan as if there is none.
  • Paying is required for mature content, voice replies and the whole builder.

The missing refund rule is the point I'd weigh most. When I can't find one, I assume there isn't one, which makes a single month of Basic the sensible ceiling for a first purchase. Twelve days on the free side was plenty for me to make up my mind, so a month should be plenty for you.

If pictures matter to you, ChatFAI will disappoint, since images are not offered at all. That is less a flaw than a choice, but it rules the app out for anyone who wants to see a companion as well as talk to one. Know that before you spend.

The good and bad of ChatFAI

What went well

  • A big library of famous and fictional characters
  • Characters reportedly stay in role when reviewers try to derail them
  • Edit, copy or regenerate any message where it sits
  • Extra messages cost $7 per 1,000 and never expire
  • A detailed builder with a 1,600-character bio

What fell short

  • Replies ran slow for me, and character voices slipped in complex scenes
  • Outside reviews describe weak memory and repetitive replies after 8-10 messages
  • No image generation, video or live voice calls
  • Mature content needs a paid plan, and Premium and Deluxe prices are not on record

Cancelling ChatFAI, and what the records leave open

I never had a subscription to cancel, since my twelve days stayed on the free side, so this part rests on the records. The cancel wording is short and friendly: according to the archived pricing page, a subscription can be cancelled or downgraded whenever you like. You handle it in a Stripe customer portal. I like the downgrade option, because stepping down a tier is gentler than leaving outright.

What is not on record: when a plan renews, when access ends after you cancel, the refund rule and the name on your card statement. That is four open questions, and they are the ones I'd want answered before any long plan. My advice: pick monthly billing so the most you can lose is one month, and leave yourself a few spare days before it renews when you cancel.

For discreet billing, Stripe tells you who processes the payment, not how the line on your statement will read. If a quiet statement matters to you, ask ChatFAI support before you pay, not after.

Message packs work differently. They are not a subscription, and the archived billing page says they never expire. So if you buy a pack and later cancel your plan, the records suggest those messages stay on your account.

If you'd like a character hub with more of its billing on record, my SpicyChat review is the comparison I'd read next. My take: ChatFAI's cancel wording is fair, and the gaps around it are why I'd keep a first purchase small.

Is ChatFAI safe with what you type?

The archived privacy policy answers in broad strokes. On retention, it says Glaxosoft LLC keeps personal data only while it is needed for the purposes the policy describes. There is no fixed period. I'd prefer a number, even a long one, because a company can be held to a number.

On training, the policy does not say whether chats train AI models. The closest line names gathering analysis or useful information to improve the service as one purpose. For an app built on personal roleplay, I want a plain yes or no, and this is neither.

How to delete your data is not on record at all. My practical advice: leave your real name, your workplace and any other clue to who you are out of the chats. Treat ChatFAI as a writing tool, not a diary, and you lose very little if the policy turns out looser than you hoped.

Is ChatFAI a legit company?

The company is Glaxosoft LLC, and the service launched in 2023; its country is not on record. Payments run through Stripe, a well-known processor, and there is a documented cancel path through its customer portal. Those are reasonable signs of a real business.

It was running when I spent my twelve days on it in August 2023, and the record still lists it as active.

What keeps me cautious is how much of the record comes from archived pages. Pricing tiers, message allowances and the cancel wording all come from archived versions, so details may have shifted since.

My view: legit, lightly documented, and best used with care about what you share. If the paid-only gate on mature content is your sticking point, my uncensored AI list compares how other apps handle their content rules.

Final word on ChatFAI

Final score

4.2/10

Uneven

ChatFAI sells a big cast of famous faces, but slow replies and slipping voices meant twelve days was plenty and I never went back.

Used hands-on with the free plan

  • Replies ran slow and character voices wobbled once scenes got complicated.
  • Reviewers say characters forget what was said a few messages earlier.
  • The famous and fictional library is big, and paid plans add a proper character builder.
  • Nothing visual is generated here; paid tiers add voice messages and that is all.
  • The $9 tier is what unlocks adult chat, and bought message credits never expire.
  • Its archived privacy policy holds data only for stated purposes and is silent about model training.
  • Slow responses killed momentum for me, and its official pages now survive mainly in archives.

Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria, and every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps

My verdict: ChatFAI is worth a free look if you love famous and fictional characters in short scenes, and a pass if long, layered roleplay or a companion who remembers you is the goal.

My twelve days tested the premise, and nothing since has tempted me back. If you do go further, the plan I'd buy is Basic at $9 a month, one month at a time, topped up with $7 packs of 1,000 messages if you run short. What bothers me most is pacing: slow replies and voices that wobbled once a scene got complicated sit at the heart of the product, not at the edges. Skip it if you need images, live voice calls or a clear refund rule.

The closest alternative I would suggest

When another app fits better than ChatFAI

ChatFAI does one thing well: a big cast of characters for short scenes. If your wish list is longer, here is how I'd choose from what is on record:

  • Memory over time: Nomi AI is credited with proactive long-term memory, and its free plan gives 50 messages a day.
  • Pictures and video: Candy AI and OurDream AI both put image and video generation on paid plans.
  • Voice calls: Nomi AI includes them on its Standard plan, and Candy AI lists them too.
  • A bigger free start: Nomi AI's permanent free plan beats ChatFAI's reported 10-15 messages a day.

The trade-off is price. Most of those apps cost more per month than ChatFAI's $9 Basic, and the extra buys features ChatFAI does not offer at all. The one case where the gap nearly closes is Nomi AI's Standard Plan Yearly at $8.33 a month, paid upfront.

If you want another character-focused hub, my CrushOn AI review is the next one I'd read. My suggestion: open the free start of two apps side by side before spending anything, and give each the same character idea. After my detective let a simple case drift, pacing is the first thing I'd watch.

Instead of ChatFAI

The next three apps I would open, and the reason.

My advice to a friend curious about ChatFAI is simple. Start as a guest or on a free account and chat with two or three characters, famous or fictional. Give them a real task, not just small talk; mine got a lost-and-found policy, and the pace of the replies told me plenty.

If the answers keep up and the voices hold when a scene gets complicated, pay for one month of Basic at $9 and see whether 1,500 messages is enough. If they slow down or slip, walk away the way I did, with nothing spent.

What people ask about ChatFAI, answered from my twelve days

Is ChatFAI free?

There is a small free start. A secondary source dated 2026-03-23 reports about 10-15 messages a day, and guest chat without an account is reported as possible. A paid plan unlocks mature content, voice replies and the entire builder. I used ChatFAI only on the free side, for twelve days in August 2023, and spent nothing.

How much does ChatFAI cost?

Basic is $9 a month. That was the price in August 2023, and third-party sources list Basic from $9 a month in 2026. Premium and Deluxe prices are not on record. Extra messages cost $7 per 1,000, with a minimum of 1,000, and they never expire.

Does ChatFAI allow NSFW chat?

Yes, on paid plans only. In August 2023 the $9 tier was what unlocked adult chat, and a 2026 secondary source says mature content still needs a subscription. ChatFAI is text only, with no image generation and no video on the platform.

Does ChatFAI remember conversations?

Memory is its weak spot by most accounts. Outside reviews describe characters forgetting what was said a few messages earlier and replies turning repetitive after about 8-10 messages. The archived billing code marks memory limited on the entry paid tier, while Premium and Deluxe get it without limits.

How do I cancel ChatFAI?

Per the archived pricing page, you may cancel or step down a tier at any time, using a Stripe customer portal. Renewal terms and a refund rule are not on record, so I'd start with one month and cancel with some days to spare.

Is ChatFAI safe?

ChatFAI is run by Glaxosoft LLC and takes card payments through Stripe checkout. Its archived privacy policy keeps data only as long as necessary, gives no fixed period and does not say whether chats train AI models. Keep names, workplaces and other identifying details out of your chats.
