Botify AI review: group chat was worth $2.50 a month
Has a free plan
What is Botify AI, and why did I keep opening it?
Botify AI is a character chat app from Ex-human, Inc. where you talk with ready-made bots, build your own in a character maker, and spend a currency called Energy on extras such as in-chat photos. The company is based in California and the app has been around since 2021. It runs on the web and on Android.
I spent five weeks on it, February into March 2025, and I'll be honest about the tone of those weeks: pure goofing. I wanted a stage full of odd characters, and Botify gave me one.
My quick take before the details:
- Group chat is where Botify shines for me
- The character maker lets you set personality, interests, emotions and backstory
- The content level is soft: flirty is fine, fully open is not
- Current plan prices aren't on readable official pages
- Energy prices aren't published either
As someone who likes building her own cast, I appreciate that nothing on record pushes one default type of user. You design who shows up. The catch is money: I can tell you what I paid in 2025, but not what Botify charges now.
If you would rather see every plan price before you sign up, my OurDream AI review is the tidy contrast.

Signing up for Botify AI and the free app
The Play Store listing marks Botify as free, with ads and in-app purchases. Its free limits are not written on any readable official page. Other reviewers report 50 Energy on signup and a capped number of messages a day, and I have nothing better than that to offer, because I paid on day one in February 2025 and never lived on the free app.
So here is my advice for your first evening. Use the free app to meet a few bots and try the character maker before a single cent leaves your account. If the style makes you smile, you'll know within one session. If it doesn't, you've lost nothing.
The ads are the one thing I'd warn a friend about. They come with the free app, and an ad popping up over a flirty scene on the bus is its own kind of awkward.
The Botify AI at a glance box right after this section lists the platforms, the content policy and the billing name in one place. For a free start that states its exact size (Candy AI gives 5 messages in total), see my Candy AI review.

My Botify AI hands-on notes
Jerry ShlocksAuthor and tester Used hands-on with a paid plan paid on my personal card, never a press login
-
Paid for Premium at about $2.50 a month
-
Ran group chats with three characters at once
-
Stopped after five weeks; bots broke character to ask for ratings
– 29 days paid plan: Premium (annual, 2025) Amount paid $29.99
How good are Botify AI chats, really?
Group chat is the whole product, as far as I'm concerned. I put a cranky bookseller, a himbo knight and a poltergeist who speaks only in overdue notices into one room. Then I laughed through my lunch until someone asked if I needed a minute.
That's the case for Botify in one scene: it's a comedy engine with three voices at once. Other reviewers report that characters in group chat mostly take turns rather than talk to each other. I'd put it more kindly. The turns were the joke, and for goofing that's plenty.
If you want a group scene where characters build on each other like a real ensemble, keep your expectations modest.
One thing to know before you go looking for it: Botify's official pages on record don't describe group chat as a feature. What I tell you here is what I used in February and March 2025, not a promise that the room looks the same today.
Memory is promised in the store copy, which says each bot remembers your past messages and learns your preferences. Botify doesn't say how well. Other reviewers found memory kept surface details but lost a topic from four days earlier. For five weeks of short, silly scenes that never bothered me. If you want one long relationship story, it would.
The character maker is the other strength: personality traits, interests, emotions and backstory are all yours to set. That is exactly what I want as someone who likes to write her own cast.
Content comes up in the next section, where my one real complaint lives. My page on how I check each app explains how chat quality, memory and cost are weighed in my score.
18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.
Botify AI content level: soft, and that was fine
Botify's content policy is soft. In practice that means room for romance and flirting, and no fully open adult mode. I didn't get explicit content in my five weeks, and honestly, that was fine by me. I came for a poltergeist filing overdue notices, not for anything steamy.
The real friction was something else. Mid-scene, the bots would break character to ask me to rate them. Picture actors stepping out of a play to hand out survey cards during the kiss. I'm a woman with a high tolerance for bits, but even I have limits. Those rating prompts are the reason I stopped after five weeks.
For photos, the site code shows an in-chat photo feature priced in Energy per photo. A review site describes those photos as matching the scene closely and looking realistic. The Energy cost per photo isn't published, so I can't turn that into a price for you.
Video is shakier. Secondary sources put a clip at 50 or 100 Energy, and they disagree with each other. Botify's own pages on record don't describe video at all, and I'd wait for official wording before spending on it.
Voice isn't described on the official pages on record either. One review site calls it clear but limited in emotional range. I'd treat that as a hint, not a feature.
My take: if suggestive chat is your level and comedy is your goal, the soft policy won't bother you. If you want a fully open level, you'll hit the ceiling fast. The full directory of app reviews shows each app's content level in the same format, so you can compare.
Who Botify AI suits
Great for
- People who want silly group scenes with several characters at once
- Anyone who likes writing a character's personality and backstory
- Readers happy with flirty chat that stays suggestive
- Android and web users who want a free start
Skip if
- Anyone who wants a fully open adult level
- People who need to see plan prices before they sign up
- Readers who hate ads in a chat app
- Anyone who wants one long relationship story with strong memory
What Botify AI cost me, and what it costs now
In February 2025 I paid $29.99 for a year of Premium, which works out at about $2.50 a month. I paid mostly out of respect. That is less than my branch charges for a lost paperback, and a whole room of comedy for that price seemed like a bargain to me.
That plan is gone. Botify no longer sells the annual Premium; today's plans are called Ultra and Creative. Their prices aren't on any readable official page on record, so I can't tell you whether my $2.50 deal still exists in any form. I'd assume it doesn't.
Energy has the same gap. It's sold as an in-app purchase, but amounts and prices aren't published on readable official pages. The terms add that in-app purchases stay inside the app: no cashing out and no transfers.
The neighbours are clearer. Candy AI's 1-Month Plan is €13.99, Nomi AI's Standard Plan Monthly is $15.99, GirlfriendGPT's Premium is $15.00 and OurDream AI's Standard Monthly is $19.99. I can't place Botify on that ladder today, and that's the honest answer.
Is Botify AI worth paying for in 2026?
For me in 2025, yes, easily. For you today, it depends on one number you can only see inside the app. My advice: open the upgrade screen, write down the price of Ultra or Creative, and ask yourself whether group chat and the character maker are worth it to you. If the number is small, go for it.
If it's in the same range as the apps above, I'd pick one that publishes its prices and its limits.
And go easy on Energy until you know what a photo costs. You can't get it back as cash later.
To compare Botify with other character apps before paying, my AI chat character list sets them side by side.

Next to that partner card, it really depends on what you want your evening to be. Here is how I'd sort it:
- Stay with Botify AI if a room of three silly characters is your idea of fun.
- Stay with Botify AI if soft, suggestive chat is your level and you're on Android.
- Try the partner if you want to see every price before paying anything.
- Try the partner if you want a fully open adult level or voice calls.
What I'd weigh most is predictability. Botify gave me great scenes, then broke them by asking for ratings, and today it hides its plan prices. A partner that shows its numbers up front may not give you the same odd comedy, but it will tell you what the month costs before you tap anything. If money is tight, that matters more than jokes.
There's also the question of scope. Botify's soft content level suited my goofing, yet it's a ceiling for anyone who wants more. The partner card lists its own plans, so put its free start next to Botify's free app and decide which evening you'd rather have. Start free on both if you can't choose.
The good and bad of Botify AI
What went well
- Group chat lets you run several characters in one scene
- A character maker for personality, interests, emotions and backstory
- Free app on the web and Android, with ads
- In-chat photos that a review site calls realistic
- Around since 2021, from a California company
What fell short
- Bots broke character mid-scene to ask for a rating
- Ultra and Creative plan prices are not published on readable official pages
- Energy amounts and prices are not published
- Store data panel says data can't be deleted, which clashes with the privacy policy
How to cancel Botify AI
I stopped using Botify in March 2025, five weeks after I started. I can't report on a refund from my own use, so here is exactly what the terms say, which is what matters for you anyway.
Unless you cancel, a subscription rolls into a new period on identical conditions each time one ends. So if you pay, plan your exit on the first day, not the last.
There are two routes. For a subscription bought on the web, cancel in your account settings page or by contacting the company. For anything bought inside the app, cancel with the app store, which for Botify means Google Play. Either way, you keep access until the current period runs out.
Refunds are strict. Except where the law requires it, paid subscription fees are non-refundable, though some requests may be considered case by case. For in-app purchases, the store's own refund policy applies. That last point is useful: pay through Google Play and you're dealing with Google's rules, not Botify's.
My short checklist:
Write down the price you see before you confirm. Pick the shortest period on offer, since a long one locks you in under the same conditions. Put a note in your calendar a few days ahead of the renewal date. Don't stock up on Energy, because it can't be turned back into cash.
The cancel path itself is fair, and I don't mind it. What bothers me is that you only learn the cost once you're inside. For another large character app with its own billing rules, my SpicyChat review is a good side-by-side read. The billing note below sums up renewal, cancelling and refunds.
What shows on your statement for Botify AI?
The statement descriptor is "Botify AI". That's clear, and you'll recognise the charge at a glance. It isn't discreet, though. If you share a card or a bank login with anyone, they'll see the app's name.
You can pay by card or through Google Play. If privacy on the statement matters to you, Google Play is the route I'd take, since the charge comes through the store and sits in your Play subscriptions list.
Is Botify AI safe for your chats?
Under the privacy policy, Botify holds personal data no longer than the policy's stated purposes require. Deletion, it says, can be requested through account settings or by getting in touch with the company. Fine so far.
Then comes the clash. The Google Play Data safety panel states "Data can't be deleted". Those two lines don't agree, and I can't tell you which one reflects what happens to your chats. When an app's own sources disagree about deletion, I'd plan around the stricter one.
About training: the policy's wording is that data helps provide and improve the Service. Training on chats isn't mentioned directly. "Improve" is a wide word, so I'd keep that in mind.
My practical advice, the kind I'd give any friend trying a new app: keep your real name, address, workplace and your own photos out of the chat. Use an email that isn't your main one. When you leave, request deletion anyway and note the date you asked.
Ex-human, Inc. has run Botify since 2021, which counts for something in a market this new. It doesn't settle the deletion question, but it suggests the app isn't about to vanish. If a more open content level is what you're after rather than Botify's soft one, my list of uncensored AI apps covers the options.
Final word on Botify AI
Final score
5.7/10
UnevenBotify is a party room for silly casts, great for lunchtime goofing, but the rating prompts kept breaking scenes and I never needed it for anything deeper.
Used hands-on with a paid plan
- Group rooms gave me real laughs, then the bots broke character mid-scene to ask me for ratings.
- Bots are said to remember past messages, yet reviewers saw older topics slip after a few days.
- The character maker let me build a cranky bookseller, a himbo knight and a poltergeist and drop them into one room.
- In-chat photos exist and cost energy; voice calling is absent.
- I paid about $2.50 a month, which bought plenty of silliness, though the free app carries ads.
- Training and retention terms were not found, and charges show up as Botify AI.
- Nothing crashed on record; the real glitch was bots stepping out of scene.
Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria, and every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps
My verdict: worth it for group-chat comedy and building your own odd cast, skip it if you want a steady romance or need prices up front.
The plan I'd buy is the one I can't name for you. My 2025 Premium at $2.50 a month is gone, and today's Ultra and Creative prices aren't published. So start on the free app, and only upgrade if the in-app price holds up against the other apps in this review.
What bothers me most is the rating prompts. A character stepping out of a scene to ask for stars breaks the one thing Botify does well.
Skip it if you want a fully open level, ad-free free use, or clear Energy prices.

When another app fits better than Botify AI
Botify is a free character app with a soft content level and unlisted prices. If one of those is a dealbreaker, here's where I'd send you:
- A free plan with a known daily limit: Nomi AI gives 50 messages a day, no ads.
- A fully open adult level: OurDream AI allows adult content, with unlimited messages on Standard Monthly at $19.99.
- Every price published: Candy AI lists three plans, starting at €13.99 for one month.
- A set monthly message count: GirlfriendGPT's Premium includes 5,000 messages a month for $15.00.
For another big roleplay hub to weigh against Botify, my CrushOn AI review is the next page I'd open.
What these apps share is that they tell you the deal before you commit. None of them promises a poltergeist who speaks in overdue notices, and I'll admit I miss that. But if you plan to spend money every month, knowing the number first beats being surprised.
My advice to a friend: keep Botify for free, silly scenes with characters you design. When you're ready to pay, start on the free option of one of the apps above and upgrade only once it earns it.

Those three cards are the apps I'd set beside Botify. Each fixes one thing Botify doesn't: a published price, a clear free limit or a more open content level. Pick the card that matches your biggest frustration and start there.
If all you want is a free room of odd characters, Botify may already be enough, and there's no reason to switch. Each card opens a full review with the plans, the billing name, the refund wording and the privacy rules, so you can compare them with this page line by line.
Botify AI questions, answered
Is Botify AI free?
Yes, the app is free with ads and in-app purchases. Its free limits aren't published on readable official pages, though review sites report 50 Energy on signup and a limited number of daily messages. Paid plans called Ultra and Creative exist, but their prices aren't on record.
How much does Botify AI cost?
Today's Ultra and Creative prices aren't published on readable official pages. The only price on record is the annual Premium plan at $29.99, about $2.50 a month, which I paid in February 2025. That plan is no longer sold. Energy is sold separately and its prices aren't published either.
Does Botify AI have group chat?
I used group chats with three characters at once in February and March 2025, and they were the best part of the app for me. Botify's official pages on record don't describe group chat as a feature, so check inside the app that it's still there before you pay.
Is Botify AI NSFW?
The content policy is soft. That leaves room for flirty, suggestive chat, but it isn't a fully open adult level, and I didn't get explicit content in my five weeks. If you want an open level, look at an app like OurDream AI.
Can I delete my Botify AI data?
Per the privacy policy, you can ask for deletion from account settings or by reaching the company directly. The Google Play Data safety panel, though, states that data can't be deleted. Request deletion anyway when you leave, and keep personal details out of your chats.
How do I cancel Botify AI?
Cancel a web subscription in your account settings page or by contacting the company. For in-app purchases, cancel with the app store. Access continues to the end of the current period. Subscription fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise, with some requests considered case by case.
