Why won't Character AI let me sign in? What to do

You can open Character AI in a browser or on iOS and Android, and that alone gives you a useful test. If one door is stuck, try another. A problem that happens only in the app but not in a browser points to your device or app version, while a problem everywhere points to the account or the service.

The usual suspects, from most to least likely:

• Signing in with a different method than the one you used to create the account
• An outdated app or a browser with stale saved data
• A shaky connection, a VPN or a network that blocks the site
• The service being busy, which the free plan meets with slow mode
• Something about the account itself, which only support can answer

My take: start with the first two. They are the cheapest to fix and the easiest to rule out, so clear them before you worry about anything bigger.

If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google handles any refund for that purchase. Otherwise, payments aren't refunded unless the law requires it.

My firm advice: if you might be locked out for a while, cancel sooner rather than later. You can always subscribe again once you're back in.

If the chat is slow rather than blocked, that is likely slow mode on the free plan at busy times, and waiting costs nothing, unlike c.ai+ at $9.99 monthly. If messages get refused, that is the content policy, and the honest answer is a different app, not a workaround.

And if you pay for c.ai+ and can't get in, protect your money first. Billing keeps running during a lockout, and you won't get payments back unless a law says so. Cancel through the Customer Portal with your account email if you need to, then sort out access calmly.

Support is the right next step once the basic fixes are all used up. You lose nothing by asking, and a clear note with your email and device will usually get you further than a string of retries.
