Why did PolyBuzz add ads? The honest answer

Why did PolyBuzz add ads?

PolyBuzz hasn't published a reason, so I can only tell you what the official pages show and give you my read. The free plan is described as text chat on the Standard model with ads, and the FAQ sells chat as "free, unlimited, and private" without ever naming a number. My take: ads are how PolyBuzz pays for all that free chatting. Unlimited chat has to be funded somehow, and ads let the company keep the free door open.

Looking at the whole money picture helps. Here is how PolyBuzz earns, going by its own pages and store listings:

  • Ads on the free plan, and the Google Play listing says the app contains ads
  • Memberships billed weekly, monthly or yearly, in Standard, Premium and Ultimate tiers
  • Coins, sold in packs from 1,000 coins for €2.59 up to 20,000 for €20.99
  • Opals, a second currency on the App Store with no official explanation

Honestly, I don't mind ads on a free plan in principle. I'd rather see ads than a paywall after a handful of messages. What bothers me is how heavy they can get: other reviewers report that the free version shows too many pop-up ads. If that's right, it's the kind of friction designed to push you toward a membership.

The fair way to see it is as a trade. You pay with your attention on the free plan, or with money on Premium, which is the tier that lists ad-free. I'll go through which plans remove ads, and what they cost, further down.

If you are weighing PolyBuzz against Character AI and content rules matter to you, that app's side of the choice is in my explainer, whether Character AI will allow NSFW.

Right after this section, the table sets PolyBuzz next to other companion apps, so you can compare their free starts and prices.

How to remove ads on PolyBuzz

The only official route on file is a paid plan, and not every paid plan is clearly ad-free. Premium lists "ad-free" among its benefits, and Ultimate includes everything in Premium. Standard is the grey area: its features aren't itemized separately, so I can't promise you it drops the ads.

If you pay for Standard and still see ads, Premium is the step up that promises ad-free in writing.

These are the plans I'd look at if ads are your main complaint:

  • Poly Premium Monthly at $19.90, listed as ad-free
  • Poly Premium Year on the web at $199, which works out to $16.58 a month
  • Poly Ultimate Monthly at $29.90, everything in Premium plus extra models
  • Poly Ultimate Year on the web at $299, or $24.92 a month

What you shouldn't count on is coins. PolyBuzz lists coins for regenerating a reply, extending voice chat, generating images and unlocking special chat moments. Removing ads isn't on that list, so buying a coin pack won't make the ads go away, going by the official wording.

Is Premium worth it just to get rid of ads?

On ads alone, I'd say no. Paying $19.90 monthly just for a calmer screen feels steep to me. But Premium isn't only about ads. It also lists stronger memory chat models, unlimited voice listening, priority chat and access to the Passion, Tale and Standard models. If you'd use those, the ad removal becomes a nice bonus rather than the whole purchase.

My smart buy, if you're sure you'll stay, is the web yearly plan. At $199 a year, Premium costs $16.58 a month instead of $19.90. The catch is commitment: PolyBuzz keeps what you've paid, even when you cancel afterwards. So start with a single month, and move to the year after the app has proven itself.

The plan I'd skip is Standard Weekly. At $4.99 a week, it works out to $21.62 a month, more than Premium Monthly, and it isn't even confirmed as ad-free.

When did PolyBuzz add ads, and what does the free plan give now?

No date is on file. PolyBuzz's official pages don't say when ads arrived, and I won't guess at a month from memory. What I can tell you is what the free plan includes today, going by its FAQ.

The free plan, as PolyBuzz describes it:

  • Text chat on the Standard model, with ads
  • Two free voice plays
  • One image generation to start
  • No published daily message cap

That's still a usable free start. Text chat is not metered by coins, which is the part most people come for. The limits sit around the extras: voice and images run out fast, and after that you're looking at coins or a membership.

Here is my honest read on the ads. An app with a 4.27-star rating from 1,176,583 ratings on Google Play and 50M+ downloads clearly has a big free audience, and ads are a common way to fund one. I don't think ads alone make PolyBuzz a worse app.

What would make it worse is if the ads got so heavy that the free chat stopped being pleasant, and some reviewers already say the pop-ups feel like too many.

So who should stay free? Anyone who chats now and then and can live with interruptions. Who should look elsewhere? Anyone who finds the ads break the mood and doesn't want to pay $19.90 a month for a calmer screen.

I'd also keep an eye on the free plan itself, since a free tier that shrinks over time would worry me more than the ads do.

If that second group sounds like you, there are other apps with different free models. Some charge per message instead of showing ads, others keep a daily message allowance. Each has its own catch, so it's worth comparing before you switch. My list of apps like PolyBuzz lines them up with their free tiers and prices.

Just below, the box sums up OurDream AI, which takes a different approach to its free start. Instead of ads on unlimited chat, it hands out a small starting balance of coins and charges per message.

How to get no ads on PolyBuzz for less

If you've decided the ads have to go, the next question is how to pay as little as possible for that. This is the order I'd go in.

First, buy on the web if you can. The yearly plans are listed at web checkout: Premium at $199 and Ultimate at $299. Spread across 12 months, those beat the monthly prices of $19.90 and $29.90.

The web membership page also shows a discounted first-week price, which is a cheap way to see whether ad-free PolyBuzz feels worth it before you commit to a longer plan.

Second, look for a discount before you check out. My page of live deals is the place to start, though it lists no PolyBuzz code right now, and any code saves the most on a yearly plan.

Third, don't pay for Standard hoping it removes ads. It might, but nothing on file confirms it, and I'd rather you spend on the tier that says "ad-free" in writing.

It's also worth comparing the model with OurDream AI in the box above. OurDream AI's free plan gives you 55 Dreamcoins to start and charges 1 Dreamcoin per message, so there's nothing like unlimited ad-supported chat. At $19.99, its Standard Monthly plan is a cent pricier than PolyBuzz Premium.

Two apps, two ways of charging you: PolyBuzz asks for your attention when you don't pay, while OurDream AI meters your messages.

Which is kinder? For light users, I think PolyBuzz's ads are the gentler deal, because you can keep chatting without a meter running. For heavy users who hate ads, the numbers even out, since both apps land around $20 a month for their first paid tier.

One more tip on timing. Every PolyBuzz plan rolls over by itself unless you cancel by the period's final day. If you're testing ad-free for a month, put a note in your phone a few days ahead of that date. Completed purchases aren't refunded, so a forgotten renewal is money gone.

My bottom line: if you pay, pay once for the year on the web, with a code if one is live. Don't drip money into weekly plans to make the ads disappear.

How to stop ads on PolyBuzz without paying

There's no official free way on file. The free plan is described as including ads, and the only ad-free status I can point to is on Premium and the Ultimate tier above it. I won't suggest workarounds for an app's own ad setup.

I don't know what PolyBuzz's terms say about them, and I'd hate for you to risk the account you've built characters on. Losing that over a banner isn't worth it.

What you can do is make the ads matter less. Keep your free sessions for the moments when an interruption won't spoil a scene. Use the free plan for casual chats and decide later whether a paid month is worth it.

And if the ads truly ruin the experience, take that as a sign that the app's free model isn't for you, rather than something to fight.

Do the ads mean PolyBuzz shares your chats?

Nothing on file links the ads to your chat text. What the privacy policy does say is worth knowing, though. Among the data it collects, it names "input text", and it states it gathers photos and precise geolocation for training its AI algorithm.

Data may also go to outside parties that help the features work, and the Chat-GPT platform is named as one of them.

No sentence in it explicitly ties your chat messages to model training, so I'd call that part unclear rather than a yes. My advice is the same as for any free chat app: keep real names, addresses and private details out of your stories. Ads or not, that habit protects you. It's a short list of habits, and it costs nothing.

If you decide to leave, you can delete the account in Settings. The privacy policy warns that backups can keep a copy until the next update of the backup system, so deletion isn't always instant everywhere.

For step-by-step answers on settings, cancelling and deleting data across different apps, my companion app help guides are the place to look. And if you're curious how an ad-supported rival funds itself, my breakdown of how Character AI makes money is a useful comparison of a different free model.

How to remove ads from PolyBuzz on iPhone or Android

On a phone, the practical route is buying a membership in the app, through Apple or Google. The App Store lists Poly Premium Monthly at $19.90 and Poly Ultimate Monthly at $29.90, and those are the in-app plans I'd pick for going ad-free. For paying, PolyBuzz accepts a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Cancelling is where people get caught, so here is the path PolyBuzz gives:

  • On iOS: Settings app, then Apple ID, then Subscriptions, pick PolyBuzz, then Cancel Subscription
  • On Android: Google Play Store app, then the menu, then Subscriptions, pick PolyBuzz, then Cancel Subscription
  • Either way, you keep the benefits for the rest of the billing cycle you've paid for

Remember that ads come back once a paid period ends without renewal, since the free plan includes them. And payments already made are not refunded, even after cancelling.

Are the ads a reason to leave PolyBuzz?

Not on their own, in my view. PolyBuzz's free text chat has no published cap and no coin meter, which is less common than it ought to be. The ads are the price of that, and for casual use it's a fair one.

Where I'd think harder is the overall fit. PolyBuzz's content stays suggestive rather than explicit, per reviewers, and its image generator gets mixed reviews: some call it the standout feature, others point to hand and eye artifacts. If those extras matter to you, weigh them alongside the ads, not just the ads alone.

My friend verdict: stay free if the ads are an annoyance rather than a dealbreaker. Pay for Premium, ideally yearly on the web, if you use the app daily and also want the stronger memory models and unlimited voice listening. Leave if the ads ruin it and the paid price feels too high for what you use.

When I size up an app, I care about whether the free plan is honest about its trade-offs. PolyBuzz is fairly open that its free plan carries ads, and that earns some goodwill. How I weigh free plans and billing is spelled out in my checking method. The questions below cover what's left.

Common questions

Why did PolyBuzz add ads to the free plan?

PolyBuzz has not published a reason. Its free plan is described as text chat on the Standard model with ads, and its FAQ markets chat as free and unlimited with no numeric cap. My read is that ads help fund that free chat, alongside memberships and coin packs.

When did PolyBuzz add ads?

No date is on file in PolyBuzz's official pages, so I can't give you one. What is on file is the current state: the free plan includes ads, and the Google Play listing flags both ads and in-app purchases.

Which PolyBuzz plan removes ads?

Premium lists ad-free among its benefits; it costs $19.90 monthly in the app, or $199 yearly on the web. Ultimate includes everything in Premium for $29.90 monthly, or $299 yearly on the web. Standard's features are not itemized separately, so it is not confirmed as ad-free.

Do PolyBuzz coins remove ads?

Not according to the official wording. Coins are listed for regenerating a reply, extending voice chat, generating images and unlocking special chat moments. Removing ads is not among those uses, so a coin pack is not an ad-free fix.

Can I get a refund if I pay to remove ads and change my mind?

Unlikely. PolyBuzz's terms give no refund on a completed purchase without due reason, and a later cancellation doesn't bring money back either. Plans keep renewing unless you cancel by the last day of the period.

Is there a free way to stop ads on PolyBuzz?

Nothing official is on file. The free plan includes ads, and the ad-free status is listed for Premium and Ultimate. I would not use workarounds that could break the app's terms; if the ads spoil it for you, a paid month or a different app is the honest route.
