How to delete chats on Janitor AI, and what really gets wiped
Can you delete a single chat on Janitor AI?
Let me be straight with you, because a lot of pages guess here. Janitor AI's official help pages, as far as the records reach, describe no step for removing one conversation, and nothing explains how to delete messages on Janitor AI one by one. I won't invent a button that nobody has documented.
If some other guide shows you a delete icon beside each chat, ask where that step comes from before you trust it, because the official pages I rely on do not show one. What the help centre does describe is the big hammer: deleting your whole account.
Here is what is actually on file about removing your data:
- Account deletion lives under Settings > Security > Delete account
- You confirm it with a 6-digit code sent to your email
- It removes posts, characters, personas and profile information
- Janitor AI says the removal is permanent and cannot be recovered
- Whether chats are used for training is stated as unclear
My take: if you only want one awkward roleplay gone, the documented tools are too blunt for that job. Wiping the account to lose a single thread is like moving house because one room is messy. I'd first ask Janitor AI's help centre whether a per-chat option exists for your version of the app, and only reach for account deletion if you want to leave completely.
If you want everything gone, though, the account route is clear and final, and I like that the company spells out that nothing comes back. That honesty beats a vague "we may keep some data" line.
People often land here after cleaning up another app first. My walkthrough on clearing out your Character AI chat history covers that side, since the two apps handle it differently. Right after this section, a table lines Janitor AI up against the rest of this page's apps, which helps if you are deleting because you want to move somewhere else.
| App | Free option | Lowest monthly cost | Allowed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Janitor AI | Yes | $12.99 | Mature chat permitted |
| Candy AI | Yes | €3.99 | Mature chat, paid plans |
| OurDream AI | Yes | $9.99 | Mature chat permitted |
| Nomi AI | Yes | $8.33 | Mature chat permitted |
| GirlfriendGPT | Yes | $12.00 | Mature chat, paid plans |
| SpicyChat | Yes | $5.00 | Mature chat permitted |
What does deleting your Janitor AI account remove?
Everything that makes the account yours. The help centre lists posts, characters, personas and profile information, and it says all of it is permanently removed and cannot be recovered. There is no grace period described in the records and no restore option. Once the 6-digit code goes in, that is the end of it.
I actually respect how blunt that wording is. Plenty of apps hide behind soft phrases like "deactivate", and you never quite know what stays behind. Here you know: it all goes.
That list matters more than it looks. On Janitor AI a lot of people are creators, not only readers: they build bots with personality, scenario and greeting fields. If you made characters other people chat with, those go too. I'd think hard about that before you press anything, because a public bot you spent evenings on is not coming back.
The steps in the order I'd take them
Here is the sequence I'd follow if you are sure you want out:
- Cancel Janitor+ first if you pay for it, so no renewal lands after you leave
- Copy any character text you want to keep, since characters are wiped with the account
- Go to Settings > Security > Delete account
- Enter the 6-digit code Janitor AI emails you to confirm
The first step is the one people skip. The records say nothing about deleting the account also stopping a paid plan, and a plan bought through an app store is run by Apple or Google rather than Janitor AI. I would never assume one action takes care of the other. Cancelling first costs you nothing, because Janitor+ keeps working for the days you've already paid for.
The second step is my own caution, not an official feature. The records name no export tool, so copying your character sheets by hand is the only safe way I can suggest to keep them. Tedious, yes. Cheaper than rewriting them from memory.

How to delete chats on Janitor AI mobile
Janitor AI publishes apps on iOS and Android, and the company says no other apps are official. That matters for deletion, because look-alike domains and apps exist, and deleting an account on a copy does nothing to your real one. Make sure you are signed in on janitorai.com or the official app before you start.
The records list several copycat addresses, such as janitorai.ai and janitor-ai.org, that are not the real service. If an app store listing does not name JanitorAI, Inc. as the developer, I'd leave it alone.
The records describe account deletion as a settings path, not as a web-only feature. What they do not say is whether the mobile apps show the exact same menu. Here is what is on file about how the apps differ from the website:
- Mobile content settings start more restricted and are switched on through the web settings
- Once changed on the web, the app works exactly like the website
- A Janitor+ plan purchased through the App Store or Google Play is managed in that store, not on the web
- The help article says app subscriptions cannot be cancelled from the web
My take: the web version is the one Janitor AI documents best, so that is where I'd do the deleting. If the Security settings on your phone look different, open janitorai.com in a browser and follow the same path there. It is the same account either way.
The billing point is where mobile users get caught. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, deleting your Janitor AI account is not the same as cancelling with the store. My order would be: store cancellation, then deletion.
The published refund rule treats subscriptions as generally non-refundable unless the terms or the law call for a refund, so a forgotten renewal is money you probably won't see again.
If you are deleting because Janitor AI simply is not the right fit, you don't have to start from nothing. My list of apps that do what Janitor AI does compares options by content policy and features. OurDream AI, in the box below, is one of them: it has group chat and voice calls, which Janitor AI does not offer, though chatting there costs Dreamcoins unless you subscribe.

Why delete your Janitor AI chats at all?
Usually it is privacy, and I get it. Roleplay can get personal fast, and not everyone wants those conversations sitting on a server. So here is the honest state of what Janitor AI says about your data, based on the records I have.
On training, the records mark it as unclear. There is no quote saying chats are used to train models, and none saying they are not. I don't like that gap. For an app where people write long, private stories, a plain yes or no should be easy to publish.
Until it is, I'd treat anything you type there as something that could be kept and read, and write accordingly.
On retention, the only clear statement is about the whole account: delete it and your data is permanently removed. The records hold no statement about how long a single chat is kept, or what happens to it if you only stop using the app. So if privacy is your reason, the account route is the one with a written promise attached.
There is one more layer many people forget. Janitor AI lets you connect external models through a proxy, using your own API key under the chat's API Settings. If you chatted through a third-party model that way, your messages also went to that provider. Deleting your Janitor AI account covers Janitor AI's side.
The records say nothing about what an outside provider keeps, and I'd assume nothing is wiped there unless that provider says so.
My advice for the future, whether you stay or leave:
Keep real names, addresses and workplace details out of any roleplay. Use a persona instead of yourself. If you use a proxy, read that provider's own data rules before you connect it. None of that needs a setting, and it means a leaked chat would say very little about you.
It also makes the whole deleting question far less stressful next time, because there is simply less to worry about.

Does Janitor+ change anything about deleting?
Nothing on file suggests it does. For $12.99 a month, Janitor+ gives 5x more context, unlimited priority messages, more swipes with frontier models and a golden username. Nothing in that list is about privacy or data control. Free and paid accounts are deleted the same way, and both lose the same things.
What Janitor+ does change is the order of your exit. A paid account has a subscription to stop, and the stop button lives in a different place depending on where you bought it. On the web it is Settings > Billing > Manage Subscription, which hands you over to Stripe's billing page.
In the apps it is the App Store or Google Play. Pick the wrong one and you will be looking for a cancel button that is not there. If you are unsure where you subscribed, look for the Janitor+ charge in your Apple or Google purchase history first; if it is not there, it went through Stripe on the web.
What happens to money you already paid?
This part is not generous, and I'll say so plainly. Janitor AI says subscriptions are generally non-refundable, except where its terms or applicable law require a refund. Cancel mid-month and Janitor+ stays on until that period runs out; after that you are back on the free plan.
That suggests a sensible timing trick. If you are paying and plan to delete, cancel now and use the paid days you have left for saving character text, then delete the account close to the renewal date. You get what you paid for, and nothing renews after you are gone.
There is also JanitorRouter, an optional add-on for Janitor+ subscribers that bills third-party model use per token. Router credits can't be refunded unless the law demands it. If you bought credits, use them up, or make peace with losing them, before you delete.
My overall view: the money rules are strict but clearly written, and clear beats kind but vague. You can plan around a strict rule. You cannot plan around a vague one.
If you wonder how I read and compare these policies across apps, how I check the apps shows the sources behind every fact here.
Before you delete: what is worth saving?
Think about what you would miss a month from now. For most people it is not the chats themselves but the characters behind them. A bot's personality, scenario and greeting take real effort to write, and Janitor AI deletes characters and personas along with everything else.
So my suggestion is simple: copy those fields into a plain text file before you go. The records name no export button, so this is manual. It is still worth doing if you ever want to rebuild the same character on another app that lets you make your own.
The same goes for personas. Since a June 2026 update, Janitor AI lets you switch between several personas inside one character chat. If you built a few of those, note down what each one was, because they vanish too. The same applies to any posts or comments you left on public bots.
Once the account is gone, you cannot go back and tidy them up, and they disappear with everything else.
Starting over on another app
If deleting Janitor AI is the first step toward a different app, compare content rules before you sign up, because they differ a lot. Janitor AI allows adult content for users over 18, switched on through the web settings. The other apps on this page are not all the same:
SpicyChat, Nomi AI and OurDream AI also allow adult content under their policies. Candy AI and GirlfriendGPT allow it only on paid plans. That is a real difference if you liked Janitor AI's free JLLM model and don't want to pay just to keep the same kind of story.
Character AI is a different case again, and many people moving between these apps ask about it. My page on whether Character AI allows NSFW covers its policy so you are not surprised after you have already deleted everything here.
My friend-level advice: delete only when you are sure, save your characters first, cancel any paid plan before you pull the plug, and pick the next app for its free start rather than its ads. Deleting is permanent. Choosing a new app is not.
Common questions
How do you delete chats on Janitor AI?
Janitor AI's help centre, as far as the records reach, documents no step for removing one chat. The documented route is deleting the whole account under Settings > Security > Delete account; an emailed 6-digit code confirms it. That removes posts, characters, personas and profile information permanently, so only take it if you want to leave for good.
Can I delete one message on Janitor AI?
There is no official instruction on file for removing single messages. I would not trust a guide that describes a specific button without a source. The safest move is to ask Janitor AI's help centre about your version of the app. If you want all your data gone, full account deletion is documented and permanent.
Can I recover my Janitor AI account after deleting it?
No. Janitor AI says deleting your account is permanent and that posts, characters, personas and profile information cannot be recovered. No grace period or restore option is described. Copy any character text you want to keep before you confirm with the email code.
Does deleting my Janitor AI account cancel Janitor+?
The records do not say it does, so cancel separately first. On the web that is Settings > Billing > Manage Subscription, which redirects to Stripe. If you subscribed in the App Store or Google Play, cancel there, since app subscriptions cannot be cancelled from the web. Your Janitor+ perks last through the period you've paid for.
Does Janitor AI use my chats for training?
It is unclear. Nothing on file says yes or no about training models on chats. If that worries you, keep personal details out of roleplay and use a persona instead of your real self. Deleting your account is the only data removal with a written promise attached.
Can I get a refund when I leave Janitor AI?
Probably not. Janitor AI says subscriptions are generally non-refundable, except where its terms or applicable law require one. JanitorRouter credits are also final unless a law requires a refund. Cancel early and use the days you already paid for rather than counting on money back.
