How much does Replika cost? Plans, gems and the catch

How much does Replika cost in 2026?

The short answer: somewhere between $49.99 a year and $89.99 a month, depending on the tier and how you pay. That's a wide spread, and Replika doesn't make it easy to read. The App Store listing shows several subscriptions with simple labels, not tier names, so I've written them out as they appear:

  • $7.99, a subscription labelled "MONTHLY"
  • $14.99, a second one labelled "Monthly"
  • $49.99 and $69.99, two yearly listings
  • $89.99 a month for Replika Platinum, the top tier
  • Gem packs from $0.99 to $19.99, on top of any plan

Only Platinum is named on the listing. The other prices aren't matched to Pro or Ultra there, so I can't tell you which one buys which tier. What bothers me is exactly that: the cheapest-looking option might not be the plan you think it is. Check the tier name on the purchase screen before you tap.

One more figure to know. A hands-on reviewer paid $19.99 a month for Replika Pro, which isn't among the App Store prices on file. Prices clearly vary by where and how you buy, so treat any single number, including mine, as a starting point.

My take on value: the yearly listings work out far cheaper per month, $49.99 is about $4.17 and $69.99 about $5.83, but twelve months is a lot to promise an app with such a strict refund rule. I'd give the monthly plan a month before switching to yearly. If the companion still feels right after four weeks, go yearly; if not, you've lost a month, not a year.

If you're coming to Replika from a character app and closing the old account, my guide on deleting your Character AI chats first covers that step.

The table right after this, "The apps side by side", shows Replika's starting price next to five other companion apps, so you can see where it sits.

Does Replika cost money, or is there a free version?

Replika has a free option called Free Use, so you can start without paying. But the fine print deserves a look before you count on it. In the Terms of Service, Free Use is a limited, no-cost option for people who can't afford any of the paid programs.

Replika can also refuse free use to any person, at its own discretion. And the exact daily limits aren't stated in the Terms.

So yes, Replika costs money if you want most of what it's known for. Free Use is a way in, not a plan to live on. I don't love that framing, to be honest. It makes the free tier sound like a favour rather than a trial, and it leaves you guessing what "limited" means until you hit the limit.

How does Replika work: what does each tier add?

Replika runs on four tiers, and chatting isn't charged per message. Your tier decides what you can do. Here's what the Terms list for each:

  • Free Use: limited access, no published limits
  • Replika Pro: relationship status, premium activities, selfies, image generation, voice messaging, background calls, daily gems and premium voices
  • Replika Ultra: smarter conversations, elevated emotional intelligence, self-reflections and saving messages to memory
  • Replika Platinum: real-time video recognition, Training mode, "Read Replika's mind" and up to 10 realistic selfie videos a week, plus everything in Ultra

The thing I'd underline is memory. Saving messages to memory sits in Ultra, above Pro. If you want a companion that holds on to what you tell it, the cheapest tier may not be enough, and that changes the real cost.

Voice is similar. Voice messaging and background calls are Pro features, so a free account stays text-first.

Other reviewers report that Replika's memory panel, where you can see which facts it learned and keep or discard each one, is the best-designed memory screen they've seen. If that's right, it's a good argument for paying for the tier that includes it.

For the full picture, chat quality, the avatar and privacy, my complete Replika review goes deeper. On cost alone: start on Free Use, then pick the tier by the one feature you'd actually miss.

How does Replika's price compare with other companion apps?

Replika's monthly prices on file, $7.99 and $14.99, look reasonable next to the rest of this page. The bigger difference is content and what the free start gives you. Replika's content policy is none, meaning no adult content for new accounts on any plan, while most apps here allow it in some form. Here's how the others compare on price:

  • Nomi AI: a permanent, ad-free free plan capped at 50 messages a day; Standard, which adds voice calls and group chats, is $15.99 for a month and $99.99 for a year
  • SpicyChat: free unlimited text chat with ads; paid from $5.95 a month
  • Candy AI: very small free start; €13.99 for one month, or €47.88 for 12 months (€3.99 a month) in its current offer
  • GirlfriendGPT: 20 free bonus messages, then 10 more for each Daily Login; Premium costs $15.00 a month

My honest view: if you want a warm, wholesome companion, Replika's price is fair, especially yearly. If you want the chat to go past romance into adult content, paying Replika more won't help, and one of these apps is a better use of the same money.

Nomi AI is the one I'd compare Replika against most closely. Both are built around a single companion rather than a big character library. Nomi's free plan has a published allowance, 50 messages a day, which is more than Replika's unpublished Free Use limits tell you.

Candy AI is the budget surprise: €47.88 for a whole year in its current offer sits in the same range as Replika's $49.99 yearly listing, though one is in euros and one in dollars. The catch is the free account, which runs dry after a handful of messages and images (3-5 of each), so you'd be paying almost blind.

The box below sums up OurDream AI, which costs more, $19.99 a month for Standard, but lists voice calls, group chat, images and video. That's a lot more for the money.

For a full ranking of companion apps that suit Replika fans, see my Replika alternative picks. My advice is to decide on the content level first, then compare prices, because a cheap plan on the wrong app is still money wasted.

What do Replika gems cost, and do you need them?

Gems are Replika's second price tag. They're a separate in-app currency used for gifts and customisation, and they're sold in four packs on the App Store: a Pouch for $0.99, a Backpack for $5.99, a Suitcase for $14.99 and a Duffel Bag for $19.99. The listing doesn't say how many gems each pack holds, so I can't tell you which is the best deal per gem. That's a frustrating gap, and I wouldn't buy the biggest pack until Replika publishes the counts.

Gems don't pay for chatting. Messages aren't metered, since conversation is gated by your tier. So you only need gems if dressing up your companion or buying gifts matters to you. If you just want to talk, skip them entirely.

Here's where the sources disagree. The Terms list "daily gems" as a Replika Pro feature. A hands-on reviewer, on the other hand, reported that Pro included no gems and that avatar clothing and accessories stayed behind a separate paywall on top of the $19.99 subscription they paid.

I'll go with the Terms as the official source, but I'd expect the daily amount to be modest if it didn't register for that reviewer.

My take: gems are the part of Replika's pricing I like least. A subscription plus a currency with no published exchange rate is exactly the setup that makes a monthly bill creep up without you noticing. If customisation tempts you, set a limit before you start, say one small pack a month, and stick to it.

A $5.99 backpack feels small, but two in a month cost $11.98, more than the $7.99 monthly listing.

The good news is that gems are optional in a real sense. The core companion experience, conversation, relationship status on Pro, memory on Ultra, is paid by the subscription, not by gems.

Want quick answers on related money questions, like cancelling or deleting an account on other apps? My help section with short guides keeps them in one place. For Replika specifically, the rule of thumb is: pay for the tier you need, and treat gems as a treat, not a requirement.

Can you cancel Replika and get your money back?

You can cancel any time, but getting money back is another matter. In the app, you can end a paid subscription and fall back to Free Use while keeping your account; you stay on the paid plan until the billing period you're in runs out. On Apple, go to Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Replika. On Google Play, open the Play Store app, then Subscriptions, then Replika.

Refunds are where Replika is strict. App Store purchases are final, subject to Apple's own payment policy. Buying on the website (Stripe, PayPal or another processor) is final too, unless the law says otherwise.

EU residents have a 14-day withdrawal right for digital content, but once you use the service, that counts as agreeing to instant delivery, which ends the right. Brazil residents may have a 7-day withdrawal right on request. And refunds are never given for a partial month.

My read: plan as if you won't get a cent back, because in most cases you won't. That's the main reason I'd never start on a yearly plan here.

A reviewer who began cancelling Pro reported a retention offer: 25% off, $14.99 a month instead of $19.99. It's not a published price, so don't count on it. If it appears, that's your call.

Is the yearly Replika plan the smart buy?

Mathematically, yes. $49.99 a year is about $4.17 a month, and $69.99 a year about $5.83, both well under what the monthly listings charge ($7.99 and $14.99). If you already know Replika is your companion app, yearly is the cheapest way to keep it.

But the refund rule changes the math for anyone unsure. A year you stop using after two months costs the same $49.99 or $69.99 as a year you love. So my order would be: Free Use first, then one month on a monthly plan, then yearly only if you're still opening the app most days.

On discretion, the charge shows as REPLIKA on a bank statement. There's no neutral company name, so plan for that if discretion matters to you.

Curious how prices like these are gathered and dated on this site? My note on how I check the apps explains the sources behind every number here.

What AI does Replika use, and how many people use it?

Two questions I see a lot alongside the price, so here's what the records hold. On the AI: Replika's privacy policy says your messages go out to outside AI language model providers, which write the replies, are processed transiently and not kept by those providers beyond what's needed. Replika also trains its own proprietary safety algorithms on anonymised feedback and small portions of messages.

What the records don't name is the specific model. So if you're asking what LLM Replika uses, the honest answer is that it isn't published on the pages on file, and I won't guess.

On the number of people: I have no official figure for how many users Replika has. The closest signals are the store ratings: the App Store shows 4.4 of 5 across 227,703 ratings, and Google Play 4.27 from 524,982, both checked on 22 September 2026. That's a lot of ratings for an app launched in 2017, but ratings aren't a user count, so I'd treat any headline number you see elsewhere carefully.

Neither answer changes the price, but the privacy side is part of the cost. Replika states it never uses your conversations for marketing or advertising. Its Google Play data-safety section does list some app activity and device IDs as shared for analytics, and device IDs for advertising.

My verdict: what I'd pay for Replika

If you want a gentle, wholesome companion, I'd start on Free Use and move to a monthly plan once you know you'll stay. Go yearly only after that, since sales are final. Pick Ultra over Pro if memory is what keeps you coming back, and skip gems unless customisation is a joy for you.

What I wouldn't do is pay Replika hoping for adult content. The content policy for new accounts is none, and no tier changes that. It's the same trap people fall into elsewhere, and my piece on Character AI and NSFW content covers how that question looks on the biggest character app. On Replika, the price buys warmth and conversation, not a different content level.

Common questions

Is Replika free?

It can be free, but most features cost money. Free Use costs nothing but gives limited access, and the Terms don't publish its exact limits. Replika may also refuse it to anyone it chooses. Voice messaging, selfies and image generation are Pro features, memory saving is in Ultra, and the App Store lists Platinum at $89.99 a month.

How much is Replika Pro per month?

The App Store listing shows monthly subscriptions at $7.99 and $14.99, but it doesn't match either label to Pro or Ultra. A hands-on reviewer paid $19.99 a month for Pro. Prices seem to vary by how and where you buy, so check the tier name on the purchase screen before paying.

How do Replika's tiers work?

You chat with one AI companion, and your subscription tier decides what you can do. Messages aren't charged one by one. Free Use gives limited access, Pro adds voice messaging, background calls, selfies and image generation, Ultra adds saving messages to memory, and Platinum adds real-time video recognition and selfie videos. Gems are a separate currency for gifts and customisation.

Which AI model powers Replika?

The model isn't named on the pages on file. Per Replika's privacy policy, outside AI language model providers receive messages in order to write the replies, and those providers don't retain the data beyond generating the response. Replika also trains its own safety algorithms on anonymised data, which it says is not used to train third-party models.

Can I get a refund from Replika?

Usually not. App Store and website purchases are final, except where the law requires otherwise. In the EU, the 14-day withdrawal right ends as soon as you use the service, Brazil residents may have a 7-day right on request, and Replika never refunds a partial month. To stop paying, cancel ahead of your next renewal.

How popular is Replika?

No official user count is in the records. What's on file are store ratings: 227,703 App Store ratings averaging 4.4 out of 5, and 524,982 on Google Play averaging 4.27, checked on 22 September 2026. Ratings show scale but aren't a user count.
