ThotChat AI Review: Arrive, Refund, Goodbye

3.7

Heads-up: ThotChat has shut down. What follows is my story from when it worked. If you want something live right now, the pick just below is where I'd start.

What was ThotChat AI, and can you still use it?

ThotChat AI was a companion chat and roleplay app with image generation, run by Infinite Fun Space, Inc in the United States, and it closed at the end of 2025. So no, you can't use it today, and nothing on file points to a relaunch.

I was a subscriber for its last three months, October to December 2025. One subscription, one refund, a complete arc. It is rare to get a whole story from an app, beginning to end, and this page tells it plainly, then points you somewhere that still works.

What you'll find here:

  • The scenario-first chat, and why picking was most of the fun
  • The $9.99 Standard plan I paid for through CCBill
  • The refund that arrived at shutdown without a request
  • What stays unknown about your data
  • The live apps I'd look at instead

My take in one line: ThotChat ended better than most apps in this genre live, and it is still closed, so your real decision is the next app. A few reviews out there still treat ThotChat as running and send you to it; if one of those brought you here, this is the current picture. If character-driven chat was the draw, my CrushOn AI review is one live place to begin.

What did ThotChat's free tier and sign-up look like?

I went straight to the paid Standard plan in October 2025, so the free tier is not something I can describe from my own use. What survives is secondary and historical: 50 messages a day, 5 pre-made characters, memory that lasted 24 hours, and image generation left out. On paper that was a fair free plan, because a daily reset is kinder than a lifetime cap.

The sources don't fully agree, though. One says the free plan had no image generation, while another reports that most in-chat SFW images were free. I can't settle that from what's on file, and it matters little now that neither version exists.

The 24-hour memory is the detail I'd have worried about on the free side. A companion who forgets you after a day suits one-off scenes and frustrates a running story. Five pre-made characters is also a narrow menu if you like to shape a partner to your own taste.

The at-a-glance facts for ThotChat show the closed status plainly, which is the headline here. If you want a live app with a very short free start and a clear paid plan, my Candy AI review shows how that trade looks today.

How I check the apps

How good was ThotChat at conversation?

ThotChat was scenario-first. You didn't start with a blank character, you started by choosing a situation, and the scenario picker read like choosing a play to attend. Picking was most of the fun, which in hindsight was the warning: when the menu is better than the meal, the kitchen has problems.

That fits what others saw in its final stretch. One review reports memory slipping hard near the end, with characters losing their backstory by session three. Another describes the voice as clear but robotic, with no emotional range.

My own notes don't add a memory test or a voice verdict, so I'll leave those as their reports and not dress them up as mine.

Nothing official on file confirms custom characters, group chat, video or voice calls as listed features, even though one review mentions the voice. I won't fill those gaps from memory.

What I can say is that the scenario idea was good, and I'd look for it in a replacement. A strong opening situation carries a chat further than a long character sheet, especially for people who like to step into a scene rather than build a companion from nothing. If an app lets you pick a setting and then shape who you meet there, it is doing what ThotChat did best.

The billing side deserves a mention here too, because it shaped how the app felt. It was discreet billing, and I paid through CCBill. For a lot of readers, that matters as much as the chat.

If you'd like to see how I weigh chat, pricing and privacy when I score an app, read how I check the apps. For a closed service like ThotChat, the score reflects the closure more than the conversations.

18+ readers only. Here we look at AI companion apps that include NSFW features; there are no explicit images.

What content did ThotChat allow?

ThotChat's policy allowed adult content, and it sat in the companion chat, roleplay and image generation categories. In content-level terms, that put it at the full 18+ end rather than suggestive or SFW. The name made the focus obvious, which at least meant nobody subscribed by accident.

None of that helps you today, because a closed app has no policy to apply. So I'll use this section for what matters next: judging a replacement on the same point.

Here is what I'd look for, in order. First, whether adult content is open to free users or needs a paid plan. On the records I have, OurDream AI and Nomi AI allow it, while Candy AI and GirlfriendGPT allow it on paid plans only. Second, whether images follow the same rule as chat.

Nomi AI is the example to know: its image generation is reported to be limited to a pre-made gallery that frequently refuses adult requests, so an open chat policy doesn't guarantee open images. Third, whether the rule is written somewhere you can read before paying.

I also care about who an app assumes you are. ThotChat's scenario picker gave you situations, and the free side reportedly gave you 5 pre-made characters. A good replacement lets you shape the character yourself as well.

Custom characters show up on the lists of Candy AI, OurDream AI and Nomi AI alike, which means you decide who shows up in the scene.

My view: a written policy beats a vague promise every time, and a scenario you can shape beats one you can only pick. For content levels described app by app, my full list of app reviews is where I'd compare before you commit to anything new.

What did ThotChat cost?

In October 2025 my Standard plan cost $9.99, billed through CCBill, and that is the only plan price on file. A secondary source adds that Premium included 1,000 Gems a month and that token packs started at $9.99 for 100 tokens. The plan names don't line up perfectly between sources, so read those extra figures as a sketch, not a price list.

Then came the ending. When ThotChat shut down in December 2025, the refund appeared without me asking. It is the most honourable thing an app in this genre has ever done to me, and I noted it the way you'd note an anecdote about a gentleman.

Even as a sketch, $9.99 a month was low for the category. Among the live apps on file, Candy AI's 1-Month Plan is €13.99, GirlfriendGPT's Premium is $15, Nomi AI's Standard Plan Monthly is $15.99 and OurDream AI's Standard Monthly is $19.99. Only a long commitment beats it: spread over its 12-Month Plan, Candy AI costs €3.99 monthly, and GirlfriendGPT's yearly Premium at $12.

Is ThotChat worth paying for now?

No, and not because of the price. The service is closed, so there is no legitimate way to pay for ThotChat today. If a page asks for card details under that name, close the tab.

The better question is what to pay for instead. Decide on the free tier first. Nomi AI's permanent free plan of 50 messages a day matches ThotChat's old free allowance on paper, so it is the closest like-for-like test.

If you want adult chat on a paid plan at the lowest monthly rate, Candy AI's yearly price is the one to beat, as long as you're happy committing for 12 months up front.

Don't expect every closure to end with a refund, either. Mine did; that is not a rule anyone promises. Start monthly, give the new app a few evenings, then decide. My list of live NSFW AI chat apps compares the current options side by side.

The closest alternative I would suggest

About the card above: ThotChat is not a partner of this site, and its official link points to a service that has closed, so the comparison card is the useful half. I'd rather send you somewhere that still works than to a dead login page.

Here is how ThotChat's old offer lines up against OurDream AI, a live app with a similar mix of chat, roleplay and adult content:

  • Free start: ThotChat reportedly gave 50 messages a day, while OurDream AI's free plan lists 55 Dreamcoins to start at 1 Dreamcoin a message, though its help centre says it does not currently offer free dreamcoins
  • Characters: ThotChat opened with a scenario picker and reportedly 5 pre-made free characters; OurDream AI lists custom characters and group chat
  • Price: ThotChat's Standard plan was $9.99 a month, while OurDream AI's Standard Monthly is $19.99
  • Status: ThotChat is closed, and OurDream AI is running

OurDream AI costs more, and its free start is thinner than ThotChat's used to be. What the money buys is a working app with custom characters, image and video generation, and a published 14-day Quality Guarantee. That trade I'd take. My OurDream AI review walks through its coins and plans.

The good and bad of ThotChat

What went well

  • A scenario picker that made choosing a chat feel like choosing a play
  • Discreet billing through CCBill at $9.99 a month
  • Refunded subscribers at shutdown without being asked, in my case
  • A free tier of 50 messages a day was reported before the closure

What fell short

  • The service closed at the end of 2025
  • Memory reportedly degraded badly in its final months
  • Voice was described as clear but robotic, with no emotional range
  • No official details on how chat data was stored or deleted

Do you still need to cancel ThotChat?

Probably not, but check. The billing details on file are empty: no renewal rule, no cancel path, no refund rule and no known statement name. In my case the shutdown settled it for me. My $9.99 payment through CCBill was refunded in December 2025 without a request, and there was nothing left to cancel.

If your story is less tidy, look through your recent card statements for a recurring charge you can't match to an app you still use. If you find one, contact your bank or card issuer and ask them to stop it. That is the only reliable route when a company's account pages are gone. Keep the date and amount of the last charge ready when you call.

What happened to your ThotChat data?

Nobody outside the company can say from what's on file. There is no retention or deletion statement, and whether chats were used for training is listed as unknown. That is the uncomfortable part of a closed service: you can't log in to delete anything.

If you shared personal details in those chats, treat them as out of your control, and don't reuse the same private information on your next app. Before you sign up anywhere new, read its privacy policy for two things: whether chats train its models, and how fast deleted data really goes.

Was ThotChat legit?

Yes. It was a real service from a named US company, Infinite Fun Space, Inc, and in my experience it left the stage properly. Closed now, a tidy two-act: arrive, refund. I have had messier endings with better-funded people, and the software behaved better than both of the men.

My sense of closure filed the refund as a happy ending, and I said thank you to a shutdown screen.

What worries me is the afterlife: older reviews that still call ThotChat active keep linking to it, and the links send readers somewhere else entirely. If a ThotChat link lands you on a different brand, that is why. When you're ready for a live app, my AI girlfriend app rankings are a good place to compare.

Final word on ThotChat

Final score

3.7/10

Uneven

ThotChat closed after a tidy run, and it refunded me without being asked, the most honorable exit in the genre; there is nothing left to sign up for.

Used hands-on with a paid plan

  • The scenario picker was most of the fun, which in hindsight was the warning.
  • Reviewers say characters forgot their backstory in the final months.
  • Scenario-first design with a small set of premade characters.
  • Voice was clear but robotic, and most in-chat images were free.
  • Nothing can be bought now; while it ran, the refund arrived without my asking.
  • Billing went through a discreet processor, but the policies left with the product.
  • Closed; the domain now lists other apps.

Bars use a 0-10 scale. The overall score is a weighted average of these criteria, and every app uses identical weights. How we review the apps

My verdict: ThotChat AI was worth its $9.99 for scenario-first chat with discreet billing, and today everyone should skip it, because there is nothing left to use.

If it were still running, the plan I'd buy is the Standard plan I had, monthly, since a scenario menu is something you judge in weeks, not a year.

What bothers me most is that some pages still send readers to it as if it were live. Don't let one of those links take your card details.

Who should skip it: everyone looking to sign up today. If you came for a cheap companion with adult content allowed, start with Nomi AI's permanent free plan, and pay only once an app has earned it the way ThotChat earned my thank-you.

Which live app replaces ThotChat best?

ThotChat mixed scenario-first chat, roleplay and images with an open content policy. No single live app on file copies that exactly, so pick by the part you miss most:

  • A free daily allowance: Nomi AI gives 50 messages a day with no end date, the closest match to ThotChat's old free tier, though free messages are capped at 400 characters
  • Custom characters and group chat: OurDream AI lists both, plus image and video generation on paid plans
  • A low paid price: €3.99 monthly on Candy AI's 12-Month Plan, with custom companions and voice calls
  • Memory by tier: GirlfriendGPT lists 8K memory context on Deluxe and 16K on Elite

For me, Nomi AI is the safest first stop, because you can judge it without paying a cent. Its catch is images, which reportedly come from a pre-made gallery rather than your own prompts. OurDream AI is stronger if pictures and group scenes matter more than a free allowance. Candy AI suits someone who knows they'll stay and wants the lowest monthly rate.

If the scenario picker was what you loved, look for an app where you can set up a situation and shape who is in it. My SpicyChat review is another place to look before you choose. Whichever app you try, read the refund rule first; a surprise refund like mine is a kindness, not a policy.

Instead of ThotChat

The next three apps I would open, and the reason.

The three cards above are the live apps I'd set next to ThotChat. Each is running, has a published price and has a free way in, which already puts it ahead of a closed service. None is a perfect copy, so choose the one that matches what you actually liked, whether that was the scenarios, the characters or the low price.

Open the free tier first, give it a few evenings, and read the billing terms before you pay. Here's what I'd tell a friend: start monthly, keep your receipts, and don't count on a refund at the end. Mine was a gift, not a promise.

ThotChat AI questions, answered

Is ThotChat AI still working?

No. ThotChat is listed as closed, and it shut down at the end of 2025; I was a subscriber when it happened, in December 2025. Nothing on file points to a relaunch. Some reviews still describe it as live and link to it, but those links do not lead to a working ThotChat service.

How much did ThotChat cost?

My Standard plan was $9.99 in October 2025, billed through CCBill, and that is the only plan price on file. A secondary source also says Premium included 1,000 Gems a month and token packs started at $9.99 for 100 tokens. None of these prices can be paid today.

Did ThotChat refund subscribers when it closed?

It refunded me. When the service shut down in December 2025, my $9.99 payment was refunded without me asking. No refund rule is on file, so I can't tell you it was policy for every subscriber. If you still see an unexplained charge, contact your bank or card issuer.

Was ThotChat AI free?

It had a free tier, according to secondary sources: a limit of 50 messages a day, 5 pre-made characters, a 24-hour memory window and no image generator. Another source says most in-chat SFW images were free, so the accounts differ on images. I went straight to the paid plan, and the free tier ended with the service.

What happened to my ThotChat chats?

That isn't known. There is no retention or deletion statement on file, and whether chats were used for training is unknown. Since you can no longer log in to delete anything, treat anything personal you shared as out of your control, and keep private details out of your next app.

What is a good alternative to ThotChat AI?

Pick by what you miss most. For a free daily allowance like ThotChat's old one, Nomi AI gives 50 messages a day. For custom characters and group chat, OurDream AI lists both. For the lowest paid price on file, Candy AI's 12-Month Plan works out at €3.99 a month. Begin on a free tier wherever one exists.
