Kalon AI review: my mixing-board era, free coins and all

Here my notes and today's page need to be read together. In early 2026 I used real-time voice and the scene builder on that free account. Today the pricing lists audio features and video generation only under the Yearly and Monthly plans, so expect to pay for both now.

Turning coins into messages is the hard part. "Coins power every generation," the FAQ says, yet no official page gives a coin cost per message or per image. One outside review puts an image request at 10 coins; if that holds, the daily 50 covers 5 images and nothing else.

The chat gets warm notes from others too. Other reviewers report that one preset character had a natural back-and-forth and slowed things down when the chat tried to rush ahead, and that a character's tone holds steady across many chats. I like a character who sets a pace. The voice is described elsewhere as natural real-time dialogue, which matches what I heard.

Memory is promised, not measured. The FAQ promises that every character remembers what you've talked about and adjusts to what you like, but no official page says how long memory lasts or how much it holds. Paid plans add "smarter chat AI," and Kalon does not say what the free model lacks.

The comfort angle matters to me, so here it is plainly. The builder lets you design face, body, style and personality yourself, and the sliders let you tune temperament without writing a word. Nothing assumes who you are or who you should want. That is the kind of control I value most in these apps.

One thing about the voice has changed since my time. The pricing today lists "Audio features" only under the paid plans, with no official word on whether that covers live calls, voice messages or both. For pictures, the official pages confirm the Kalon AI image generator for everyone and video for paid members, but they set out no separate content rule for images, so I won't claim more than the policy says. Quality notes from outside on the Kalon AI generator are good: faces stay stable across multiple generations, and images arrive in under 10 seconds, with slight delays at peak hours.

The setting I actually loved was not a content switch at all. The scene builder turns a chat into a short video clip, and I have a 20-second rooftop conversation saved like a pressed flower. The sliders cut both ways, though. They invite perfectionism, and I once spent a whole evening tuning a personality instead of talking to it. A very me failure, observed calmly and repeated anyway. If you are a tinkerer too, make yourself one promise: tune first, then actually talk.

The yearly plan changes the picture. Yearly is $119.64, or $9.97 a month, labelled "Save 50%." Twelve monthly payments would come to $239.64, so the yearly plan saves $120.00 and carries 200,000 coins against 192,000 from twelve monthly plans. My note from those months says Kalon at $9.97 enabled me the entire time.

My own account stayed free, so read that $9.97 as the yearly plan's monthly figure, not a charge I paid.

What I cannot give you is a true Kalon AI cost for a heavy user, because the coin price of each action is not published. The subscription is clear; the spending inside it is not. That is my main complaint about an app I otherwise enjoyed.

My pick is Monthly at $19.97 for one cycle, and here is why. Yearly is the better deal on paper, but Kalon keeps every payment unless a law forces a refund. Spending $119.64 before you know your coin burn rate is a gamble, and if you tinker with sliders the way I do, your burn rate is anyone's guess until you start.

My view: Kalon AI has a strong free start, character controls I genuinely loved, and a clearer training promise than most. Where a rival can beat it is predictability. That is less fun to tinker with, but far easier to budget.

A cancellation only kicks in when the current cycle ends, so the time you already paid for is still yours.

Plans renew automatically. The Terms of Service say every billing period rolls into the next one automatically until you cancel, and that covers Yearly as well as Monthly. A plan that bills a whole year by itself is exactly where I'd set a calendar reminder.

Refunds depend on where you live. The general rule is no refunds unless applicable law requires one, and requests go to [email protected]. EU users get a 14-day withdrawal right: a full refund only if no paid features were accessed, otherwise Kalon "may charge you a proportionate amount for the period of use." Fairer than a flat no, but only inside the EU.

One more thing before you delete an account. Coins vanish when an account is deleted or terminated, so spend a big balance before you leave rather than after.

My practical advice: start on Monthly, decide within the first cycle, and cancel from Settings the day you are sure. Do not buy Yearly as an experiment, however tempting the sliders make it. Read the wording closely, though. It covers third-party and general-purpose models and says nothing about Kalon's own. I don't read that as a warning sign, but it is a gap I would like closed in plain words.

Retention follows the usual formula: Kalon holds personal data as long as it reasonably needs it for the listed purposes, or longer or shorter where the law says so. No deletion time is given. The policy also mentions audio you submit during voice chat or voice journaling, so assume your voice is stored like text.

So, is Kalon AI safe? I would call it one of the more careful apps on training and age checks, with the usual vagueness on retention. My advice stays the same: leave your full name, address and workplace out of chats, and never generate a character from a photo of a real person.

If a friend asked me for an app that's mostly about talking, I'd point to Nomi AI first, since its free plan is permanent and its message count is published. For pictures on a small yearly budget, Candy AI is hard to ignore, even with a free start of only 5 messages.
