Dondi AI review: fun levels, pushy milestones

Dondi AI is a web companion app where you chat with ready-made AI girlfriends or build one yourself, with relationship levels, photos, video and voice layered on top. The Terms name Techcommerce Unlimited in the United States, and the footer says "Powered by dondi.ai Labs Inc." It is web only and in English.

What the homepage promises today:

• More than 200 AI girls to chat with for free
• A companion who "remembers your stories" and picks up on your preferences
• Custom photos and video, plus a Create Character tool

My take: Dondi is built to be played, and it is good at that. It is also built to be paid, and it never lets you forget it. The girlfriend framing is front and centre, so if you want a companion of another shape, know that going in.

How much it gives today is harder to say. The Terms promise certain features free "with limited usage" and publish no number. One third-party source, dated 21 August 2026, reports five messages a day and a starting balance of 45 tokens, and flags both as unconfirmed.

Other reviewers call the free tier very tight and say upsells show up early in a chat. That last part matches my notes: the milestones kept steering toward paid moments.

My opinion: register, explore, and treat every milestone that points at a paywall as an ad. You can still have a good time on the free side if you ignore them.

That design works because each level gives you a small goal. You know where you stand with her and what comes next. For someone who likes structure, it beats staring at a blank chat and wondering what to say.

The same structure is where the friction came in. The milestones kept steering toward paid moments. My suspicion of gamified spending, honed on one too many vendor webinars, activated hard.

On memory, the homepage says she "remembers your stories". Outside reports split: one site calls recall inconsistent, another reports 3 of 3 details recalled correctly in a short structured test. My notes don't cover memory either way, so I'll leave you with that split rather than pick a side.

The same critical source says Dondi works best for quick fantasy interaction and lists repetitive roleplay as a drawback. That fits the game shape. Levels are fun to climb, but a long, winding story is not what the app is built around.

Voice exists in some form, since the footer has an AI Voice Chat section, but the official pages don't say if it's live calls or voice notes, or which plan includes it. One source says each voice playback costs 1 token.

The part that surprised me was video. The photo-to-video clips were better than I expected. I staged my companion visiting my actual apartment, and my cat hissed at my phone. That is the most honest review no star rating captures.

Here is the then-and-now caveat. I made those clips on a free account in January 2026. Today the record lists video as a paid feature, and a secondary source puts a 5-second video at 50 tokens. So don't count on the same free taste I had. It may be there, it may be gone, and nothing official says which.

The word "unlimited" also needs a footnote. Tokens still exist on paid plans, with one source putting an image at 5 tokens minimum. "Unlimited" and "costs tokens" sit side by side, and the official pages don't explain how they fit. I'd want that answered before paying.

No named content setting appears on the official pages, so I can't tell you how to adjust the level.

On inclusivity, the framing is narrow. The homepage talks about AI girls and a "she" who remembers you. There is a character builder, but nothing on record says what you can set for looks, personality or gender. As someone who likes to choose, I'd want that spelled out.

Against the others on this page, Yearly is cheap. Candy AI's 12-Month Plan works out to €3.99 a month, Nomi AI's Standard Plan Yearly to $8.33 and OurDream AI's Standard Annual to $9.99.

Tokens are the part that changes the math. Plans reportedly include 200 tokens a month. At 50 tokens for a 5-second video, that is 4 short clips a month before you would need a pack. Packs run from 150 tokens for $5.99 to 25,000 for $399.99, and any tokens you haven't spent lapse when the subscription period ends.

My view: the sticker price is fair, the meter beside it is where the real cost lives. If the clips are your reason to pay, budget for packs.

If you enjoy the levels more than I did, Yearly at $71.88 is the plan I'd pick, and the source that lists it mentions a 500-token first-month bonus on the annual offer at the time it was checked. Just be sure first: you have just 24 hours after paying to ask for a subscription refund, and only while you're still under the usage limits.

Unsure? Take Monthly at $14.99 for one cycle. I'd skip 3 Months, a half step that saves little.

My opinion: Dondi is cheap and playful, but it asks you to trust a lot of secondhand numbers and to resist a lot of nudges. My Candy AI review makes a useful contrast, since its 1-Month Plan lists unlimited text messages, custom companions and 100 tokens a month on the official page.

Whichever you lean toward, the free Dondi start needs no card. I got three weeks out of it, including video, so give it a real try before any money moves. Then decide whether the levels feel like fun or like pressure. For me it was the second, and that settled it.

Cancelling is simple on paper: the account settings let you stop the plan whenever you like, and it keeps running until the billing period you paid for is over. No support email, no hoops. I give Dondi real credit for that.

Renewal is automatic at the end of each billing period, with fees billed in advance for the cycle you chose, monthly, quarterly or annual. Cancel a few days before the date rather than on it.

The refund rules are tight and specific. You can ask for a subscription refund within 24 hours of payment if you haven't exceeded the usage limits. Unused tokens get the same 24-hour refund window from purchase. After that, the Terms rule out partial refunds for unused time unless the law requires one.

My advice follows from that. If the first paid day disappoints, ask for your money back the same day and leave the tokens alone in the meantime. And never buy a big pack right before cancelling: tokens have no cash value, can't be transferred and expire with the subscription period.

It matters more on an app built around levels of closeness. The whole design invites you to share more as the relationship climbs. If training bothers you, the only real protection is to share less, whatever the next milestone suggests.

On retention, the policy promises to hold personal data only while the described purposes still need it. No timeline is given and no deletion steps are on record.

Is Dondi AI legit? The Terms name Techcommerce Unlimited, the footer names dondi.ai Labs Inc., and the billing name and refund rules are written down. In my three weeks it behaved like a real product with a strong sales streak, not a scam. Nothing on file says when Dondi launched.

What bothers me most is the steering. The milestones kept pointing at paid moments, and that is the reason I chose my wallet over her next level. The clips were a genuine delight, and my cat's reaction is still my favourite review line.

Skip Dondi if you want a companion outside the girlfriend frame, long stories, or chats that stay out of AI training.

My first pick for most people leaving Dondi would be Nomi AI. Its free plan is permanent, and other reviewers call its chat natural, with a long-term memory that brings things up unprompted. The trade-off is pictures: its images are reported to come from a pre-made gallery.
