Official Chub AI status page

Checked twice a day, every 12 hours. About this check

Is Chub AI down right now, or is it your end?

The box above is my honest answer to "is Chub AI down right now?" It is not a guess and not a rumour count. Twice a day, an automated request goes from our own server to chub.ai, and the box reports what came back, with the time in UTC.

I like this approach because it separates two questions people tend to mix up: is the site answering at all, and does your chat actually work. Those are not the same thing.

The four states, and what I make of each:

  • Up means chub.ai answered normally. If your chat still fails, the fault more likely sits in your browser, your connection or the model behind the chat.
  • Slow means an answer came, just late. My take: that points to heavy load, so a short break beats hammering refresh.
  • Down means no proper answer came back, which is the closest thing on this page to a confirmed outage.
  • Unknown means the server turned the automated request away. I would not read that as bad news, and the box does not count it as down.

Look at the timestamp before you trust the chip. A result can be up to 12 hours old by design, and the box marks it Out of date once it passes 14 hours.

Why does this matter for Chub AI in particular? It is a web-only character hub run by Chub AI Inc, with no app store version on file. So when chub.ai stops answering, there is no second door to try: the website is the whole product.

That makes the Chub AI server status a simpler question than on apps with separate phone clients, and I find that oddly reassuring. One site, one answer.

I also want to be upfront about what this page will not do. It keeps no outage diary, it does not estimate how many people are affected, and it never says the site is fine when it has no reading. If you see a confident claim like that somewhere else, treat it with care.

If you landed here without knowing much about the service itself, the paid Mars plan, the trial credits and the character side are all covered in my full Chub AI review. For the rest of this page, I will stick to what actually helps when Chub AI is not working: what to look at first, what your subscription means during downtime, and where to go while you wait for the site to come back.

Why a Chub AI outage stings more than a normal site hiccup

A shopping site going offline for an hour is a shrug. A Chub AI outage feels different, and I think it is worth being honest about why. People build their own characters there, run group chats with several of them at once, and lean on memory to keep a story going.

When the site stops answering mid-scene, it is not just a page that failed to load. It is a thread you were in the middle of.

Here is what bothers me most about downtime on a service like this. Chub AI's free start is not a standing free plan. New users are sent one-time trial credits worth a few dozen messages, and that is it unless you pay or host a model yourself.

If an error eats a reply while you are on those trial credits, you feel it, because the pool is small to begin with. I would not spend them by resending the same message again and again during an obvious problem.

The paid side has its own sting. The Mars plan costs $20 a month and promises unlimited use of every Chub language model, Soji among them, plus unlimited voice and multimedia generation. Unlimited sounds generous until the site is unreachable, and then unlimited of nothing is still nothing.

My view: $20 is a fair price for what Mars lists, but only if the service is there when you sit down to use it.

Then there is the question of whether a failure is really an outage at all. Other reviewers report dialogue confusion and repetition, including the AI writing both sides of a conversation. That is a quality quirk, not downtime, and it is easy to mistake one for the other when you are frustrated.

If the status box shows Up and the replies are simply strange, a fresh message or a new chat is the better move than waiting for a repair.

So here is the calm part. An outage is annoying, and refreshing every few seconds does nothing to shorten it. I would close the tab, do something else for a while and come back, rather than sitting there wondering whether it is just you.

If you are fed up and want a plan B that does not hang on one website, I keep a list of apps worth trying as a Chub AI alternative, ordered by how closely they share its focus and content policy.

How this check works

The check behind the box is deliberately simple, and I prefer it that way. Twice a day, every 12 hours, our own server sends one automated request to the Chub AI home page. It records whether an answer came back, the HTTP code, the response time and the time in UTC. Slower than 3 seconds is Slow.

No answer within 10 seconds, a server error or a failed connection is Down. When the server turns the request away (HTTP 401, 403 or 429), the result is Unknown and never counts as down. The box adds uptime for 7 and 30 days and a 30-day bar, one cell per day.

It does not log in or open a chat, so a Chub AI error during generation can happen while the chip shows Up. It tells you whether the site answered, not why. Two checks a day can also miss a short outage in between, so if chats fail right now, look at the official status page at chub.ai/status too.

The same method runs on every page of the is it down hub, so results compare fairly across apps.

Quick fixes when Chub AI will not load for you

Asking why is Chub AI not loading while the box says Up? Then the problem is probably closer to home. Work through these, in this order:

  • Open another site. If nothing loads, it is your connection, not the Chub AI servers.
  • Hard-refresh chub.ai, or open it in a private window. That rules out a stale page or a browser extension getting in the way.
  • Sign out and back in. A stale session can look exactly like a Chub AI error.
  • Switch networks, say from Wi-Fi to mobile data. If it works on one and not the other, the network is the cause.

Chub AI is web-only, so Chub AI not working on mobile usually points to the phone's browser, not a missing app. Try a second browser on the phone before you assume the site is broken. There is no app store version to update, which I count as one less thing to go wrong.

If you run your own model through Kobold or Ooba, a Chub AI "provider returned an error" message deserves a look on that side first. My take: that wording names the model connection rather than the website, so restarting your own setup is the smarter first move.

The Chub AI problems that are not outages

Not every answer to why Chub AI is not working is a server problem. A few kinds of trouble look like an outage and are not. Other reviewers report that the Imagine image tool gives inconsistent character likeness, so a Chub AI error generating an image may be a weak result rather than a failure.

Voice is described as a polished audiobook narrator: functional, not natural. Flat audio is a style issue, not downtime.

Then there is access. If you pay for Mars and your Chub AI subscription is not working, meaning paid features stay locked, the website may be fine and the account is the problem. I would sign out and back in, then contact support with your payment date.

The refund rule is strict, so I'd ask for access to be fixed rather than for money back.

API access is a paid feature on Chub AI. So a Chub AI API error while you are on trial credits may simply mean the feature is not part of what you have. Rule that out before you blame the servers. How I read each of these facts is set out on the page about how I check the apps.

Where to chat while Chub AI is down

If the box says Down and you want to keep going, pick a backup that matches why you use Chub AI in the first place. For character roleplay with group chat, OurDream AI lists group chat and custom characters, though its free start is thin: 55 Dreamcoins to start, and its help centre says it does not currently offer free dreamcoins. For a companion who remembers you, Nomi AI has the most generous free plan here: 50 messages a day, on a permanent free plan.

For voice and images in one place, Candy AI is the easy switch, with voice calls, and non-EU/UK buyers get 24 hours after payment to ask for their money back.

My honest advice is not to pay for a second app because of one bad evening. Start on a free tier, and only subscribe if the backup turns into a favourite. Nomi AI's free plan is the one I'd open first, simply because it resets every day instead of running dry.

Why Candy AI is my first stop when Chub AI stalls

Candy AI is a different kind of app from Chub AI, and that is exactly why I like it as a backup. Chub AI is a character hub built around roleplay. Candy AI is a companion app from EverAI Limited, based in Malta: you create your own companion, and the paid plan covers unlimited text messages, voice calls, images and video. If Chub AI is where you run scenes, Candy AI is where you keep one steady partner.

The free start is small, and I want you to know that before you open it. One count puts it at 5 messages overall that never refresh daily; a check on 2026-09-22 counted 3-5 messages and 3-5 images, with no video. Sources differ on the exact number, but whichever is right, it is a taste, not a free plan you can live on. Adult content sits behind the paid plans only.

On price, the smart buy is not the monthly plan. The 12-Month Plan works out to €3.99 a month, billed €47.88 upfront, against €13.99 for a single month, and the current sale takes 70% off that yearly plan. I'd only commit to a year if the free messages convinced you, though.

The refund window for non-EU/UK buyers is 24 hours after payment, which is short, so decide before you pay rather than after.

For privacy on your statement, the charge shows as EverAI, which I find pleasantly discreet. Cancelling is in Settings / Unsubscribe, and the plan renews automatically until you do.

Quality has a catch too. Other reviewers report that memory lasts roughly 10-20 messages before details start slipping in longer chats, and that visible errors show up in about 1 in 8 image generations, with no free retry. If long-term memory is your priority, I'd look at Nomi AI instead.

And if Character AI is your other regular, the Character AI down page works the same way as this one.

  • Starting free: Free tier
  • Lowest price: €3.99 monthly (12-Month Plan)
  • Allowed: mature chat, paid plans
  • Runs on: web

Three apps to keep chatting while Chub AI is down

The next three apps I would open, and the reason.

My short version before you close this tab

If you only remember one thing, make it this: read the box first, then decide. When it shows Up, the fix is almost always on your side, so run through the quick checks above before you worry. When it shows Down, waiting is the honest answer, and no amount of refreshing speeds it up.

My second piece of advice is about money. Do not upgrade to Mars, or to any backup plan, in the middle of an outage. Decisions made while annoyed tend to be the ones people regret, and Chub AI's refund rule leaves little room for second thoughts. Start any backup on its free tier and give it a fair chance first.

Last, if you juggle several character apps, the same kind of box sits on the page asking is Janitor AI down and on the PolyBuzz status page. Bookmark the one you need. Next time something breaks, you will have a plain answer instead of guesswork.

Chub AI status questions, answered plainly

Is Chub AI down at the moment?

The status box at the top of this page shows the latest automated check of chub.ai, with the time in UTC. Up means the site answered normally, Down means it did not, and Unknown means the server turned the request away, which is not counted as down. I can only tell you what that last check saw, so look at the timestamp, and if the result is marked out of date, treat it as a hint rather than an answer.

Why is Chub AI not responding when the status says Up?

The check only reaches the home page; it does not open a chat. So the site can load while replies stall or a message fails partway through. My advice: send a fresh message, reload the page, then sign out and back in.

If you connect your own model through Kobold or Ooba, look at that setup too, because a fault there looks the same from the chat window.

Does Chub AI have a free plan?

Not a standing one. New users are sent one-time trial credits worth a few dozen messages, and free self-hosting through Kobold or Ooba is the other free route. Everything else sits on the Mars plan at $20 a month.

I think that is fair to know upfront, because the trial is a one-off rather than a daily allowance you can wait for.

Can I get a refund on Chub AI Mars if the site was down?

No credit for downtime is promised anywhere on file. The refund rule, as a secondary source reports it, is firm: no refunds outside exceptional cases. My take: if a long outage cost you paid time, contact support anyway and ask politely for an extension, since that is a more realistic request than money back. Keep screenshots of the errors and the times you saw them.

Is there a Chub AI app for my phone?

Chub AI is listed as web-only, so on a phone you use it in the browser. That means a phone problem is usually a browser problem: try a second browser, reload the page or switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data before you blame the site. I actually like the simplicity, since there is no app update to chase.

What should I use while Chub AI is down?

Match the backup to why you use Chub AI. OurDream AI lists group chat and custom characters for roleplay, Nomi AI has a permanent free plan of 50 messages a day for companion chat, and Candy AI covers voice calls and images for €13.99 a month, or less on its longer plans. I'd start on a free tier and only pay if the backup earns it.
