My take: "allowed" is a floor, not a promise of quality. An app can permit intimate roleplay and still write it badly, forget your character's name or push you toward paid extras every few messages. The policy tells you where you can go. The rest of this page is about whether it is worth going there. That is my reading order.

The OurDream AI free plan lists 55 Dreamcoins to start at 1 Dreamcoin per message, although its help centre says it does not currently offer free dreamcoins, so that number may change. The Joi AI free account shows 10 Neurons and no free-chat message cap could be found.

The paid-only apps are a different story. The Candy AI free account allows about 5 messages in total, and the GirlfriendGPT free tier is described in its terms as a limited count, such as 10 to 20 messages. On both, the adult content itself sits behind the paywall.

Three things decide how good it feels. The first is the character: its personality, its backstory and how well it holds them. The second is memory, meaning how many of your earlier messages the model can still see. The third is the currency.

Many apps run on coins or tokens for anything beyond text, like the Candy AI allowance of 100 tokens a month on paid plans or OurDream AI's 1,000 dreamcoins a month on Standard. Knowing which of the three matters most makes choosing easier.

My take: the coin side is where people get surprised. Text is often unlimited on a paid plan, but images, voice and video draw from a balance. If you mostly want words, you can ignore most of the extras and save a lot. Decide on a monthly limit before you ever buy coins, and stick to it.

Those yearly prices look great, but they are paid upfront. Locking in twelve months on an app I only know from its free tier is something I'd never do. Pay one month, see if it suits you, then switch.

Candy AI lists memory too, though other reviewers report that its character consistency holds for roughly 10-20 messages and can drop details in longer chats. If that is right, a slow-burn story will need the occasional reminder.

My take: for a character who keeps hold of your name, your running jokes and the story so far, judge memory first, not last. A partner who forgets you after twenty messages is really a stranger with a good opening line.

Candy AI shows as EverAI. OurDream AI shows as DREAM STUDIO LLC AL. Nomi AI shows as NOMI.AI. GirlfriendGPT shows as NDAI.CC, SpicyChat as NDAI.CHAT and Joi AI as joi.com.

For me, the more neutral descriptors are a real plus if you share a card or a statement with someone.

Then think about what you type. Use a nickname in chats, keep real names, workplaces and addresses out of the story, and assume anything you write is stored by the company. That habit costs you nothing and protects you on every app. Care goes a long way.

It matters even more with images, since a picture you save or share can travel further than a line of text.

Finally, know your exit before you need it. Each app has its own cancel path, from Settings / Unsubscribe on Candy AI to the profile page on OurDream AI. Every fact on this page comes from official pages, dated free-tier checks or outside sources marked as such, and how I check the apps explains how those facts are gathered and kept current.

First, pick an app whose policy matches what you want, so you never have to fight a filter. Second, start on the free tier where there is one, and judge the writing, not the promises. Third, build or choose a character you actually like. Fourth, set yourself a budget before you look at coins or tokens.

Fifth, read the cancel and refund rules, then pay for one month at most. Together these steps spare you a surprise charge and a chat you regret.

I would add one more step that is not about apps at all. Check in with yourself now and then. If the chats leave you feeling good, great. If they start to crowd out sleep, friends or the people you care about, take a break.

An app is not a substitute for real people or for professional help, and if you are struggling, a doctor or a local support line is the right place to turn.

SpicyChat lets you create characters and use up to 10 personas on Get a Taste, or up to 50 on True Supporter. The GirlfriendGPT free tier allows 2 or 3 characters, and Joi AI offers free character creation to start.

What I care about here is who the builder assumes you are. An AI girlfriend is only one option: many people want a boyfriend, a partner of another gender or a character who is simply themselves. The records do not list the gender options each builder offers, so open the character builder while you are still on the free tier.

What you get on a paid plan is broad: unlimited text messages, your own custom companions, image and video generation, and 100 tokens a month for the extras. Voice is part of the package too, with voice conversations and voice notes mentioned on the homepage. The plans run from €13.99 for one month to €47.88 for a year, which works out to €3.99 a month.

My take: Candy AI is a good fit if you already know you want a paid companion with pictures and voice, and you like the idea of designing the character yourself. The yearly price is low for what it includes. What I do not like is how little the free tier shows you before you commit, and how short the refund window is. Outside the EU and UK you have only 24 hours after paying to ask for one.

My advice is to pay for one month first. That is the cheapest honest way to see whether the writing, the voice and the images suit you, and whether the character holds up in a longer story. If it does, the yearly plan makes sense.

If it does not, you have lost one month, not a year, and you can walk away calmly.

On discretion, charges show as EverAI rather than Candy AI, which I count as a quiet plus. I like that. You cancel under Settings / Unsubscribe in your account, and plans renew automatically until you do.

The free start is modest. Signing up and looking around cost nothing, and the free plan lists 55 Dreamcoins to start at 1 Dreamcoin per message. The help centre adds that it does not currently offer free dreamcoins, so treat that number as something that may change.

Standard is $19.99 monthly or $119.88 yearly (so $9.99 per month), and it includes unlimited messages and 1,000 dreamcoins every month. Deluxe raises it to 5,000 dreamcoins, 100 minutes of voice calls, 50 videos and 3x chat memory.

My take: Standard Annual is the smart buy if text is your main thing, because messages are unlimited and the coins only matter for extras. Deluxe is a big step up in price at $59.99 a month, and I would only go there if voice and video are the reason you are here.

Voice is where I would be careful. Other reviewers report that calls use up coins quickly, partly on pictures created mid-call that the reviewer never requested. Billing is fairly friendly. Charges show as DREAM STUDIO LLC AL, and you cancel from your profile page with access continuing to the end of the period. The refund policy offers a 14-day Quality Guarantee, where support decides case by case on a credit, a replacement or a refund. That is more flexible than most apps here.

For me, OurDream AI suits someone who wants variety: several characters, group scenes and a policy that lets the story go where you want.

That free plan is the reason I like Nomi AI for a first try. You get enough messages to build a real conversation over several days, without paying anything. The paid Standard plan is $15.99 a month, $39.99 every three months or $99.99 for a full year, roughly $8.33 monthly.

On top of the free plan you get unlimited messaging with longer 800-character messages, voice calls, as many as 10 active Nomis, and up to 10 group chats.

Memory is where Nomi AI stands out. Other reviewers report proactive long-term memory, and after roughly 500 messages the app builds a Mind Map on its own. If that holds, Nomi AI is the app on this page most likely to remember the details of your story.

What I would weigh against it: payments are nonrefundable, and the terms say there are no refunds for lack of usage or dissatisfaction. A plan rolls over by itself if you haven't cancelled by the end of the period. To cancel on the web, go to Profile icon > Subscription tab > Manage Subscription > Cancel Subscription and confirm it. Charges show as NOMI.AI, which is discreet enough for most people.

My verdict: start free, use the 50 daily messages for a week, and only then decide on a plan. That order lets the free plan do the work it was built for. If you want a companion who feels like the same person each time you open the app, Nomi AI is the one I would try first.
