Joi AI comes from Novi Limited and lists itself as a companion, roleplay and image-generator app in one. The free start is image-led: 6 lifetime image generations, stored for 7 days, and no free-chat message cap that could be found. That last point is unusual, and I like it, even if the free chat is described as stiff.

OurDream AI, from Dream Studio USA, Inc., goes the other way. Every message costs 1 Dreamcoin for non-subscribers, and the free plan lists 55 Dreamcoins to start. Its help centre, meanwhile, says it does not currently offer free Dreamcoins, so treat that number as one that may change. What you get in return, once you pay, is unlimited messages, group chat and voice calls.

The category labels hint at this too. Joi AI lists image generation next to companion chat and roleplay, while OurDream AI lists only roleplay and companion chat. I read that as an honest signal, and the plans match it: Joi bundles pictures into Premium, OurDream bundles messages.

Here is what bothers me about both. Neither app gives you a truly roomy free start for chat and pictures together. Joi is generous with a few images and vague about chat. OurDream is clear about chat and stingy with it.

So ask yourself which you would miss more after three days, the pictures or the conversation, and start there.

Deluxe is a different story: $59.99 monthly or $359.88 a year for 5,000 Dreamcoins, voice minutes and extra memory. I'd only go there for heavy voice use.

On Joi AI the maths is short. Premium is $13.99 a month and there is only one paid plan on file, so the entry cost is the monthly cost. The hidden extra is the Neuron balance: images and video spend Neurons, and a failed attempt reportedly still spends them. If you generate a lot of pictures, budget for top-ups. If you mostly chat, $13.99 is close to the whole bill.

OurDream AI is the opposite case. The sticker price is higher, $19.99 for Standard Monthly, but that plan comes with unlimited messages and 1,000 Dreamcoins every month. Pay yearly and you are at $9.99 a month, which undercuts Joi if you are sure you will stay 12 months. My hesitation is Deluxe.

At $59.99 a month nothing else on this page comes close in price, and I doubt most people would ever use what it adds.

So here is my honest sorting. Light use, mostly images: Joi AI at $13.99. Regular chat and roleplay, committed for a year: OurDream AI Standard Annual. Heavy voice use: OurDream Deluxe Annual at $359.88, and only once you know the app well.

I would not start anyone on a yearly plan blind, especially on Joi, where refunds are mostly off the table.
