Two roleplay apps, two ways of counting

CrushOn AI and Janitor AI are close cousins in spirit. Both centre on roleplay, both let you create your own characters, both allow adult content, and neither makes images or video. So the choice is not about pictures. The real question is how far the free plan carries you, and which extras are worth paying for.

Janitor AI is the more open door. Its official free plan offers unlimited JLLM chats and swipes with millions of public bots, available in a browser and on iOS and Android. CrushOn AI counts more carefully. A free-account check on 2026-09-22 showed a monthly 100 message credits, extra coins for daily tasks, unlimited Free models and AI voice replies. That is a real free plan, just a metered one.

In my view, Janitor AI wins the free start, and CrushOn AI wins on extras. CrushOn AI adds voice replies, group chat from its Standard plan, and a long ladder of credit bundles. Janitor AI offers none of those, and I think that is fine if all you want is to write stories with a character. Its single paid plan, Janitor+, is about memory and priority instead.

Here is what bothers me on each side. Other reviewers report a Trustpilot rating around 1.8-2 out of 5 for CrushOn AI, with complaints about double-charging and filters firing on innocent roleplay. For Janitor AI, memory is the worry: reviewers say details drift within 20-30 messages on the free model.

Neither flaw is a deal-breaker, but both are worth knowing before you settle in. My Janitor AI review, free plan and memory included, goes further on the second one.

The next block, The two apps side by side, lays out the features in one row per app. Look at voice and group chat first, because those rows are the whole difference in plain view. If both rows mean nothing to you, Janitor AI's free side is probably all you need, and you can skip the pricing section entirely.

How long does each one keep the thread?

Memory is limited on CrushOn AI, and it grows with the plan. Free users get 8K memory, Standard and Premium move to 16K memory models, and Elite reaches 24K. Janitor AI's free JLLM sits at about 9k context, with Janitor+ promising 5x more. Published reviews call Janitor AI's memory mostly session-based and weaker across multi-day chats.

On paper the two start almost level, and I'd judge by the plan you can afford rather than the app. Reply length is another lever: CrushOn AI's Luxe plan lists adjustable reply length, and Janitor AI has no such setting on file.

Your own characters and group scenes

You can build custom characters on either app, and both allow the adult side of roleplay. Janitor AI brings a public library of millions of bots. CrushOn AI brings group chat, which Janitor AI does not have, though its free plan leaves group chat out.

If you want several characters talking in one scene, CrushOn AI Standard at $5.99 is the cheapest way I can point you to.

Voices, pictures and filters

Neither app makes images or video, so do not pick either for pictures. Voice is where CrushOn AI pulls ahead: the free plan includes AI voice replies, and published reviews describe the default voices as natural and expressive. Reviews were less kind about its custom voice cloning, though. Janitor AI has no voice at all.

One odd note for CrushOn AI: its policy allows adult content, yet some users complain that filters trigger on innocent roleplay. I'd keep that in mind if smooth scenes matter to you. My CrushOn AI review covering voice and credits has the longer version.

What about privacy and billing names?

This is the section where I am most careful. For CrushOn AI, other reviewers report that your chat logs and personal data could feed AI training and ads, but no official CrushOn AI page confirms it. I read that as a nudge to leave real names and private details out of what you type, not as proof.

Janitor AI's record has no privacy details at all. On billing, CrushOn AI charges show as CRUSHON SUB, which names the app. Janitor AI has no statement descriptor on file, and web payments go through Stripe.

CrushOn AI: generous extras, cautious reputation

TECHIEPIE LTD runs CrushOn AI, which you can use on the web or on Android. It is a roleplay and companion app with custom characters, group chat on paid plans and AI voice replies even on free. Adult content is allowed. What it does not do is images or video, so it lives or dies by its chat.

The free plan is real. A dated check on 2026-09-22 counted 100 message credits per month, with coins earned by doing daily tasks, and the plan listing adds unlimited Free models and 8K memory. I like that you can keep chatting on the Free models after the credits run low.

Paid plans are sold as credit bundles, and the entry price is kind. For $5.99 a month, Standard brings 2,000 credits, 16K memory models and group chat. Premium at $14.99 triples the credits to 6,000. After that the jumps get steep: Luxe at $39.99 and Elite at $89.99, with 55,000 credits and 24K memory at the top. I'd stop at Standard or Premium unless you chat for hours every day.

The part that gives me pause is the reputation. Its Trustpilot rating is cited at around 1.8-2 out of 5, with complaints about double-charging and slow support, and reviewers say a lot of the chat models it lists are buggy or out of date. The refund rule does not soften it: no refunds of usage fees and no partial refunds for unused time.

My advice is to stay on free until you know which model works for you, then pay monthly. The statement line reads CRUSHON SUB, so it is not discreet. To see CrushOn AI and Janitor AI against other rivals, the index of head-to-head comparisons is the place to look.

Janitor AI: text roleplay with the door wide open

Janitor AI, from JanitorAI Inc., is a character hub on the web, iOS and Android. It does one job: text roleplay with a huge public library of bots and your own creations. Adult content is allowed here too. There is no voice, no images, no video and no group chat on file, and I find the focus refreshing.

The free plan is the headline. Officially it offers unlimited JLLM chats and swipes, standard models, JLLM-short and a context window of about 9k. A secondary source suggests roughly 50 messages a day instead, so sources differ, and I go with the official wording.

The free plan also includes all public characters, so you can browse the whole library before paying anything. Compared with CrushOn AI's 100 credits a month, it is the bigger free start, even if the secondary number turns out right.

The trade-off is memory. The reviews on record say it holds up within a session but gets shaky over long or multi-day stories. Janitor+ at $12.99 a month is the answer the app offers, with 5x more context, unlimited priority messages and more swipes on frontier models. The golden username and checkmark are extras I'd ignore. If your stories are short, the free plan already covers you.

There are no coins or credits to track, which I like. The refund rule is plain: as a rule you don't get money back, unless the terms or the law say otherwise. On the web you cancel through Settings, Billing and Manage Subscription, which opens Stripe; if you subscribed on your phone, cancel with Apple or Google instead.

Each app's prices appear in the currency it bills in, with no conversion. Price sorting only compares apps that share a currency.

CrushOn AI sells credit bundles from $5.99 a month; Janitor AI has a single plan. All prices are in US dollars.

Price is where these two feel least alike. Janitor AI keeps it short: free, or Janitor+ at $12.99 a month. CrushOn AI offers four paid tiers, sold as message credits, and every one can be paid by the month or by the year.

For a light user, both are free, and I'd stay there. Janitor AI's free JLLM is the roomier of the two, while CrushOn AI's 100 monthly credits sit alongside unlimited Free models, so you are not locked out when they run low.

For a regular user, CrushOn AI is the cheaper paid option. Standard costs $5.99 a month, or $58.88 a year, which works out to $4.91 a month, and it brings 2,000 credits and group chat. Premium costs $14.99 monthly or $94.88 for a year, about $7.91 a month, for 6,000 credits.

Janitor+ at $12.99 a month buys memory and priority rather than volume. That makes the two hard to compare dollar for dollar, so ask yourself which you run out of first: messages or memory. Your answer points to the right app.

For a heavy user, CrushOn AI climbs fast. Luxe runs $39.99 monthly, or $299.98 yearly ($25.00 a month), and Elite is $89.99 a month. I think Elite only makes sense if you truly use 55,000 credits, and very few people will.

My pick for most people: CrushOn AI Standard yearly if you want group chat and voice, Janitor AI free if you just want to write. Neither app sells images, so these prices are close to the whole bill. That is not true of apps with image tokens, as my Candy AI vs OurDream AI page shows: there, the subscription covers just some of what you spend.

Janitor AI Free JLLM chats with a library of millions of bots · 6.6/10, starts at $12.99/mo Try Janitor AI for free

The exit rules are worth a minute before you pay. CrushOn AI charges automatically every month on your chosen payment method. If you paid on the web, you cancel under Profile, then My Subscription, then Manage, then Cancel Subscription. If you paid through the iOS App Store, the cancel happens there instead.

Its terms rule out refunds of usage fees, and you get nothing back, in cash or credit, for time you don't use.

Janitor AI's web cancel is under Settings, Billing and Manage Subscription, which moves you to Stripe. A plan bought on a phone ends in the App Store or Google Play. Refunds are the exception, not the rule: only where the terms or the law require one. Janitor AI has no statement descriptor on file, so spot its charge by the $12.99 amount.

So neither app will give money back easily, and CrushOn AI's reported double-charging complaints make me more careful there. My advice: pay monthly, check your first two statements for the CRUSHON SUB line, and cancel a few days before renewal if you are unsure.

What I'd say to a friend choosing between them

I'd start them on Janitor AI. It costs nothing, runs on their phone whatever brand it is, and the free plan is big enough to learn what they like. If they then miss voice or group scenes, CrushOn AI is the obvious next step.

My quick guide for a friend:

  • Only text roleplay, no budget? Janitor AI free.
  • Want voice replies without paying? CrushOn AI free.
  • Want several characters in one scene? CrushOn AI Standard.
  • Long stories falling apart? Janitor+ or CrushOn AI Premium, whichever app you already like.

A word of caution. CrushOn AI's reported complaints about double-charging and slow support are not something I'd ignore. It does not mean you shouldn't use it. It means pay monthly, keep an eye on your statement, and do not jump to Luxe or Elite early.

The same goes for Janitor+: give the free plan a fair run before you pay for more context, because many short stories never need it. Money saved there is money you can spend on the app you end up loving.

And if what they actually want is a companion with pictures and calls rather than roleplay, neither of these fits. My Candy AI vs Nomi AI breakdown is a better place to start for that kind of app, since both of those are built around a single ongoing relationship.

Common questions

Is CrushOn AI or Janitor AI better for free use?

Janitor AI has the bigger free plan on paper. Its official wording offers unlimited JLLM chats and swipes, though one secondary source puts it near 50 messages a day. CrushOn AI hands out 100 message credits monthly, tops them up with coins for daily tasks, and adds unlimited Free models and AI voice replies. For free text roleplay, I'd open Janitor AI first.

Is adult roleplay allowed on both?

Yes, both policies allow it. On CrushOn AI, other reviewers report complaints that filters sometimes trigger on innocent roleplay, so scenes may not always run smoothly. Janitor AI allows it on its free plan as well as on Janitor+.

Which one has voice or images?

Neither makes images or video. CrushOn AI includes AI voice replies, even on the free plan, and reviewers describe its default voices as natural, though custom voice cloning was reported as poor. Janitor AI has no voice.

Will the app name appear on my bank statement?

CrushOn AI charges show as CRUSHON SUB, which names the app. Janitor AI has no statement descriptor on file. Its web payments go through Stripe, and mobile subscriptions are billed by the App Store or Google Play.

Is a refund possible on CrushOn AI or Janitor AI?

It is unlikely. CrushOn AI's terms say it will not refund usage fees and offers no partial refunds or credits for unused time. Janitor AI subscriptions are generally non-refundable, except where its terms or the law require it. Pay monthly first on both.

Janitor AI vs CrushOn AI vs SpicyChat 2026: where does SpicyChat fit?

This page covers only CrushOn AI and Janitor AI, so I will not make claims about SpicyChat here. SpicyChat has its own comparison pages on the site. Between the two apps above, Janitor AI is the free text pick and CrushOn AI is the one with voice and group chat.
